i'd put a little lucas oil treatment in the oil can you use for this. it will help the oil stick to the gears better.

In the movies you make, you dip the parts in Evapo-Rustยฎ Super Safe Rust Remover for between 3/10ths and 35/100ths of a second. I think you are doing some sort of trickery with your movie camera and believe you may actually leave the parts in longer ... if that's true how long *do* you leave the parts in there?
