Commentary on Birthday Bash

Starting with this one, the story behind it is quite funny

Since more than half a year Ive wanted to draw a piece for my boyfriend, but I almost never could make the time to draw him specifically. Since his birthday was rolling up however, I decided to try to surprise him with something simple.

…well simple didnt last long 😅,

I finished the sketch of the main pose in a couple days time and the original plan was to simply color the base pose with flat colors and maybe some color notes,

however that same day I was chatting with my partner while eating together and he commented “man, Im so excited to see what you come up with for my birthday, ever since you said you were gonna draw me Ive been excited cuz the neons you did for that rocker drawing were incredible. I can’t wait to see what colors you use to paint my bull”

And all I could think of internally was “…n-neons??”

SO now I needed an excuse to draw NEONS into the setting, so I thought, “maybe I could use a picture of my boyfriend’s old bedroom as reference!! He used to have a blacklight!

So with that plan in mind I started rendering a background, and made sure to focus the light source on Mau to soften the transition from Mau’s bright orange to Tau’s (the bull’s) dark blues

Now all I needed was to fill the empty spaces with props from Tau’s bedroom!! And while I was looking for references for his room… I REALIZED I never took a pic of it. Worst of it, TAU never took a pic of it. So now I was stuck with a fully rendered room with A BUNCH of empty space.

“…..welp time to add more sex scenes”

And THATS how we arrived at the final, the work of 2 days prolonged into a full WEEK pivoting from one solution to the next.

I’m still incredibly happy with the end result though, so it was DEFINITELY worth it (plus Tau was incredibly happy with it in the end, so it was EXTREMELY worth it)
