2024-06-19 16:52:24 +0000 UTCSomething that I only really thought about upon a second or third viewing is that thereโs a slightly even darker tone to Zukoโs punishment than they explain outright. If you remember in the first episode Iroh says to Zuko โEven if the Avatar is out there you wonโt find him. Your father, grandfather and great grandfather all tried and failed.โ Under that context we can assume that Zuko was not ever meant to return. The Fire Lord gave him a task that, in the Fire Lordโs mind, shouldโve been an impossibility to complete.
