Instead, she tried to take it from them permanently in their mid-twenties, without their knowledge or consent, and didn't reveal the truth to them even after it became apparent she was dangerously ill. Consistent behaviour with leaving a ring lying around as a family heirloom without telling anyone it was cursed. Makes me wonder if it was her precious. I can only hope they de-hexed it before flushing it - that's never occurred to me before in 18 years. The final theme song lyric is 'I've already waited too long and all my hope is gone' - by waiting too long, the hope of her eldest granddaughter living past 30 ended.
