Yeah but “our daughter” doesn’t make up for 1000 “aunty Gabrielle’s” They want to have their cake and eat it too. I’m not on board with it. But Season 6 puts it right.

It all started with Hercules wanting to prove we didn’t need the Gods, him turning Xena from villain to hero and thus his act of heroism paved the way for Xena to also become a hero and would end up overthrowing Olympus. Just felt the series universe story was complete.

2022-12-02 01:33:07 +0000 UTCReally epic finale with gargantuan stakes. I am on the fence about this Eve/twilight of the gods storyline, but it was action packed and entertaining for sure. So glad you got the show's intention with the scene of Xena hitting Gabrielle with her chakram, that she didn't really have time to comprehend it was her. It was written to be Xena seeing a shadow and throwing the chakram through a window before she realised it was Gabrielle, but the set and logistics did not allow it to be clear that was the case. It was still very hard to stomach nonetheless. It would not have been as hard if Gabrielle was developed well this season. But, after two seasons of VERY solid character building for Gabrielle in seasons 3 and 4, this season is the only one where she truly feels like a sidekick. That whole middle stretch of episodes, a lot of her unique traits were shelved and she was just another Xena with slightly less combat skills. So, for them to do this to her in the finale was another slap in the face. A glaring part of what made this a weaker season IMO was the distinct lack of Xena/Gabrielle material, be it friendship or romance. They quite obviously pushed Xena towards Ares this season and did write in some chemistry between Gabrielle and Virgil. Anyway, on to next season! I like season 6. While it was not as strong as 3 or 4 IMO, there are quite a few elite episodes in there. :D It will definitely be interesting to see how the show progresses since season 5 seemingly traded Joxer, Callisto, Eli, Autolycus, Amarice, Minya, and Salmoneus for Eve and Virgil.
