“This is getting too saucy” Ah don’t worry. Gabrielle will sort out those repressed sexual frustrations. When they get time I mean. Things have been so hectic they haven’t had any time to themselves: that explains the “visions” and “reflections”.

2023-11-26 00:58:19 +0000 UTCUsing violence to protect your child - Is it wrong? This scene, from the season 5 episode, ‘Eternal Bonds’, is my favourite “ending” scene in the entire show. Meaning the last scene at the end of an episode where there is usually a moral of some kind. This one is stronger and more substantial than most. It’s the struggle between love/hate, peace/war and good/evil that our heroines go through all the way through the show. The constant back and forth yin-yanging. But this time it has a twist. Is it right to resort to violence when it’s the only way you can protect your child? Also, is it right for that child to see you kill just to save it’s life? Did this contribute to Eve’s “zest” for violence as she grew up without the guidance of her mother? Again, you have these ethical issues that pop into the show from time to time that play on your conscience. That are thought-provoking and influence your perspective on how you think and feel about these ethical issues, and how you view the world as a whole. I would assume that most of us would say, after watching this episode, that regardless whether the child sees it or not, it is always right to fight, or even kill for their well-being and safety, because you can’t take the risk of them being hurt. Even when they are no longer a child, and can fend for themselves, it would still be the right thing to do, because that’s protecting them. It reminds me of what Cyrene said to Xena in the season 4 episode, ‘Takes One To Know One’, when Xena suspected her of murdering the bounty hunter, Ravenica. Also, I wonder what Gabrielle was thinking here as they were talking. It must have made her think about the time when she felt she had to protect Hope from being killed by Xena. Her inner-monologue being… “Now she knows how I feel.” Well, you know my views. I think it’s the right thing to do if it’s absolutely imperative to do it. Tell me whether you think it’s wrong or right. Give your perspective in the comments. Be as detailed as you want to be. I want to know. WARNING DISCLAIMER: I know this might upset a few people because it is a very relevant subject in this day and age, but I have to say that I agree with it very much, despite how controversial it may be to talk about it. I am a firm believer that if something is really that controversial to talk about… then it should be a first priority to talk about it. It should not be pushed aside just because it’s difficult. All the more reason why it should be addressed, in my mind. I hope you agree with that too, and if not, I apologize in advance if it upsets you. It’s not my intention, I just feel it’s a very important topic to discuss. I also believe that if it hits where it hurts, it’s a good thing, as it will potentially expand your consciousness and help you learn something that will help you deal with life’s ups and downs. And it’s got to hurt if it’s to heal first, right? No ill will intended. I promise you. :)

2023-11-26 00:26:07 +0000 UTCGabrielle’s learning curve - Joxer teaches her a lesson I love this scene because Joxer hints to Gabrielle’s hypocrisy in feeling like she has to protect and defend Xena and Eve when she scolds Joxer for trying to protect and defend her, and she realizes she’s been a bitch to him all this time. I also think at this point Joxer realizes that Gabrielle is in a relationship with Xena. I would say he realized it in ‘Fallen Angel’ when they come back to life and he notices the way they look at each other. Now that he has told her that he is in love with her, it doesn’t stop him from trying to get her attention in that way. Even if he knows he doesn’t have a chance with her because she’s in love with Xena, he still actively tries to pursue her and I think it’s very sweet. In this little exchange between them, they talk about Xena and how Gabrielle feels very protective over her now that she has a baby. She’s basically saying that it’s her responsibility to be there to protect and defend them. She takes on the role of the father in Eve’s life. That’s what a father does. Protects and defends their family. Nowadays that wouldn’t be the case as a single parent can raise a child or a same-sex couple can. I believe Gabrielle takes on the role of the father, as she knows from her heteronormative upbringing that every child needs a father in their life. And even though she knows Xena can take care of herself and Eve, she still wants to help out. I think it’s more a case that she wants to show Xena that she can be that missing parent for Eve. I think they really should have explored this more when Eve grew up and reformed her ways. That she is basically her father. But I can understand why they didn’t go down that route since she ended up killing Joxer.
