The only real problem I have with this episode? The new actor for Solon is too young. Here he looks to be about 9 or 10 but when we last saw Solon, he was clearly a teenager. Voice broke and all. Probably shouldn’t have included him in this episode if they couldn’t get the same actor.

2023-11-25 23:59:13 +0000 UTC‘God Fearing Child’. Gabrielle delivers THEIR baby. She does not leave Xena in her labour despite the whole of Olympia shaking and crumbling down. She has no idea what’s going to happen when their baby is born. There’s no chance that she can survive. She doesn’t care. She helps bring their baby into the world. She’s steadfast. She’ll be there no matter what. That’s what you call love and a domestic partnership.

And Herc's sixth season was only eight episodes long, which means the series finale of HTLJ was four episodes before this one. I consider this to be, probably, the best episode of season 5. Obviously I have a bias due to Herc having been maybe my favorite show of all time. But this really is about as big as an episode can be without being more than one part. The death of Zeus by Hercules is a very powerful moment, but obviously can't be fully appreciated by those who aren't familiar with the backstory. There are a number of things about this episode I don't like very much, but I don't ignore the bigness of a lot of what happens here. The birth of Xena's baby, the death of Zeus (and the inexplicable death of Hera), the reappearance of Solon (even if he shouldn't be there, maybe), Ares' "I love you", and, of course, the stuffed hydra.
