Xena: Warrior Princess 5x09 "Seeds of Faith" Reaction

Xena: Warrior Princess 5x09 "Seeds of Faith" Reaction

“It’s fitting.” It is. Even though they still have their own families. It means Xena has given Callisto a mother and Callisto has given Xena a daughter. It is the most appropriate endgame for Callisto. To give back what she once took from Xena and for Xena to give back what she once took from her. It’s weird but in hindsight, it makes all the sense in the world.

“Don’t fight for me, Gabrielle. If I die, I die. Better to die with the knowing that I always lived for peace than to live but live with the guilt that violence saved me.” It’s always a compelling narrative and theme. And you’ve got Gabrielle caught between a rock and a hard place yet again. She’s a warrior. She must fight. It’s who she is. And Eli is just like “Not for me.” 😖 What do you do? The answer: Respect the person’s wishes regardless what you believe and of how much you love them. If they don’t want you to fight to save them. Don’t. The amount of times Gabrielle gets saddled with that conflicting dilemma is why she’s my all-time favourite. ‘Seeds Of Faith’ is a hard one to watch. Boy… And Eli.. I mean what an awesome responsibility. The guy is only human. It’s too much to ask.

I wished they had kept this episode as the 100th. It did advance some major plot points and feature some major progression for guest characters Callisto, Ares and Eli. I also liked how they explained this Xena's pregnancy storyline. You're right, it is very meaningful that Callisto and Xena have this second chance to bring love to each others lives rather than despair. It seems to have been planned all along too. There was a deliberate moment in Fallen Angel, the season 5 premiere, where Callisto approaches and touches Xena after she is resurrected. That was when she gave Xena the child. Think back to season 1, when Xena couldn't even touch Ares in a fight because he was so powerful. Who would have imagined that Gabrielle would one day go toe-to-toe with the God of War and hold her own?! I really love that they are still pouring care into Gabrielle's development into heroic warrior figure. She has found that Xena's 'Way of the Warrior' is the path for her too, yes. But it's not a case of her choosing then having smooth sailing. They are showing the bumps along the way, such as her being too eager to get into a fight now and initiating the tavern brawl over a misunderstanding. And she still struggles with striking the balance between doing good through force and initiating unnecessary violence. That's the core of her character, Gabrielle will always seek to do the greater good, and it's nice that we are seeing her journey spanning years to get there as she continues to work on it.

This episode aired as the 99th installment of the show. It was originally planned to be number 100, but plans changed. ... Eli was based on stories of Jesus in India. ... "The Dagger of Helios" was also the name of the special knife used in The Quest. I believe the shared designation is simply a coincidence/mistake. ... So, Callisto is the father of Xena's baby, which makes Callisto her own father. Apparently. ... I don't think Gabby could really have stopped Ares anyway, but they were going for something dramatic moment here. ... A very good effort, all in all, dagger confusion aside.
