Faithful, Too: “Game 45 W and Not Even Close”

A good ol’ fashioned bloodbath at Wrigley on Friday, with sunny skies and windy, er, winds making it interesting early. Fortunately fortune and just plain being a better baseball team helped lead the Cubs to a 13-3 victory over the crosstown rival White S0x. Moises Ballesteros had his first hit, walk, runs, and RBI’s in this one, but the star of the game was the tremendous PCA. Four hits, including a 3-run blast in the Cubs’ six-run 2nd, two runs, and six RBI’s…batting leadoff! It was another series-opening win for the Cubs at Wrigley, extending their record to eight such wins to start the season. Newbie Cade Horton gave up a two-run shot early, but managed to go five innings for his second win in two appearances. Keep it up, kiddo.

Since hearing about their ongoing team record of home wins to start series this year, I was curious about how the Cubs have fared in their 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th games of every series they’ve played this year. Here are those results:

1st game: 12-4

2nd game: 10-5

3rd game: 4-9

4th game: 0-1

Those third games are killer so far. Thank God for the rest of ‘em. Let’s sweep this White Sox team, please.
