After a long day at work in which I somehow put in 18,000 steps, it was a blessing to crash upon my couch from the 3rd inning on and watch the Cubs beat the Marlins 5-2. I’d say it was a close game, but when you’re finally playing a no-doubter bad team that lead seems hard to give up.
With Suzuki’s 10th homer in the 5th, the Cubs became the only team in the baseball to have three players with at least 10 homers this season. Dansby is only one away from that number, having hit his 9th in that same inning.
Rea looked great again, going into the 7th inning and only giving up a two-run homer late in his outing. Just can’t speak enough of how vital he’s been as a replacement for Steele. Cubs stay in first despite an absolutely surging Cardinals team that has won nine games in a row. Sick of them as I always will be. They always find a way to stay relevant.
Back to Wrigley tonight with Mac and our respective partners for our first night game of the season. Supposed to be nice weather…but I’ve been fooled by the weather gods and Wrigley before. We shall see…
P.S. Caught this wild stat during the Marquee broadcast last night: “(CUBS HAVE) WON (THEIR) FIRST 7 SERIES OPENERS AT WRIGLEY FIELD THIS SEASON / EXTENDS FRANCHISE RECORD.” DAMN!
