Added 2025-05-01 18:32:19 +0000 UTCThe Cubs lost 4-3 more-or-less on a weird 2-run double by Pirates great Andrew McCutchen that was definitively overshadowed by genuine horror in right field. I was recording an upcoming Losers’ pod during the final six innings of the game and only later discovered at some point during McCutchen’s double, a fan fell 21 feet from the stands and onto the field. As of this writing he is in critical care (a day later).
As someone who has literally sat in that section and row with Roffman at PNC Park years ago, it is indeed a deep drop. I haven’t seen any footage of the fall (and would like to go the rest of my life not seeing it), but I have seen the reactions of players and coaches who witnessed it shortly thereafter.
I don’t know how you can keep going after that, and nothing much happened for either teams after the play. Puts wins and losses in perspective. Puts a lot in perspective. Prayers up for this fan.
