Got home from work yesterday just in time to watch the Cubs game only to find they were experiencing a delay and had to start at 6. Instead, Kait and I had dinner then walked to a park to read (my book pictured above). A bit chilly compared to the perfect weather the day before, so we headed back after a bit. I figured it would still be early in the game when we sat down to start a 1,000-piece puzzle (Frankenstein. Familiar?). It was not the case.
Opting for radio so as not to be distracted from the puzzle at hand, I discovered it was already the end of the 6th and that the Cubs were up 4-0. The corners and borders of the our puzzle began to fill up as the Cubs tacked on one homer after the other. PCA and Kelly homered during our park travel. Seiya and Dansby followed suit as we connected pieces, and the Cubs shutout the hapless Pirates 9-0. A nice bounce back after a disappointing weekend for the Cubbies.
Seiya almost hit for the cycle (short one single) and it was good to hear Dansby respond after being dropped to eighth in the batting order. Fun fact: no Cub batter struck out in this game. First time that’s happened since 2013. That team was awful. This team is not. On to Thursday.
