Faithful, Too: “Game 15 L - Getaway Game”

Ah, a good ol’ loss. Tied through four before the wheels fell off Shota for the first time in a long time. The Rangers woke up, pounced on him for four in the 5th and added another on another later for good measure. Cubs bats, on the other hand, were dormant. They lost 6-2.

The “getaway game” is the last game in a series before a team leaves for another destination (whether it’s another city or heading home after a road trip). Let’s see how the Cubs have fared in getaway games this season. I’m sure it won’t be frustrating:

L vs. Dodgers 3-6, 3/19 (Japan)
L at Diamondbacks 6-10, 3/30
W at Athletics 10-2, 4/2
L vs. Rangers

Oh. It is frustrating. On top of that they are 1-4 in the final games of any series, 8-2 in all other games. They’re looking ahead too much. Series wins are great. Always a fact. But the Central divison, while not great, will be tight. Get the wins when you can.

Schedule continues to be a nightmare as they head out on the road. Three games against the 10-4 Dodgers followed by three games against the 10-3 Padres. I’ll be happy with going 2-4, but thrilled to just break even. The silver lining is they’re playing these great teams so early that a good bulk of the schedule will be against bad-to-middling teams. Hopefully the Cubs are still amongst the former when that time rears its beautiful head. Off to L.A….
