Faithful, Too: “Game 6 CHOKE”

According to the reliable gregstoll.com, when a visiting team is up four runs in the bottom of the eighth and the team batting has one out and runners on 1st and 2nd, the chances of victory for the visiting team is 93.54%. The Cubs were that very visiting team yesterday…and lost.

These are the ones that sting. Getting shellacked on Friday 8-1 doesn’t matter this early in the season. However, when you have the game in hand on the road against a solid ball club (Dbacks made the World Series two years ago), you can’t go and give up eight runs in the 8th inning. Cubs lost 10-6.

Pluses? Suzuki hit his first homer of the season, had two hits, two runs, and two RBI’s. He’s a notoriously slow starter, so maybe this is the year he turns it around. After solid defensive games this weekend, Dansby hit a home run of his own, and King Tuck continues to live up to the hype by hitting homer #2 on the road trip. The Cubs split the series, which is great, but dammit they should have outright won.

Next stop: a Sacramento minor league stadium for a road game against the team without an official home for the next few years that simply go by “The Athletics”. More on that this week. Let’s win 2 out of 3 and head to sweet home Chicago.
