And they should know by know that they won't get anything out of Control. Harold is the remaining constant for Reese and Root. Without him Root would go completely off the rails. Keeping your humanity is the most important part. Like Root said: the difference between Samaritan and the machine is Harold.

I keep trying to tell my friends who are Westworld watchers to check out POI, to little avail. I get it, though. It's hard to get past the "CBS procedural" reputation -- I had zero interest in it until after it had ended and I started hearing great word of mouth. It's tough to explain how/why it becomes so much more than just another CBS procedural without spoilers, and saying "trust me, it gets INCREDIBLE after a season and a half, just trust me!" only goes so far...

I would have thought that a kid would be easier to manipulate, and indoctrinate, than an adult. Finding a genius one at the right age to do this is perfect for Samaritans needs.

I became a patron because of your person of interest reacts but it fills me with joy to hear you sing this show such praise. This show is probably my favorite show of all time and it rarely gets the praise it deserves so hearing you say such good things every episode and how it exceeded your expectations makes me happy. and yes it sucks when we lose characters but hey it's a testament to how fantastic this show is when every character is good enough to be sad about when we potentially lose them.

I absolutely agree in that for me as well, this show went beyond anything I would have imagined when I started watching it. The only reason I started the show was because of Michael Emerson. I LOVED him as Ben Linus from Lost. I also remember giving Alcatraz a shot because of Jorge Garcia (Hurley from Lost), which started around the same time. Anyone remember Alcatraz? It tried really hard to capture that "magic box" mystery of Lost, but for me, just fell short. I guess others felt the same, because the show was cancelled after its first season. Person of Interest, though, felt.. *ahem* relevant for today's world. I was very much intrigued by Person of Interest's pilot and kept with it, but I had no idea that this show would propel forward the way it did, especially from halfway through season 3 and onward, tackling the things that it does. Being marked as a CBS crime procedural, I feel like too many people have dismissed this show as just that: a Law & Order or CSI procedural clone, but just with this edgy gimmick of this "Machine" that just gives us a number for a new case every week. Man, did it go far beyond that! And now when I see Michael Emerson, I see Harold Finch more than Ben Linus. Thank you so much for the triple drop this week!

Let's be honest, Samaritan doesn't need the feeds anymore, same as the Machine doesn't need them anymore. They needed the feeds to get started, to get online at first, now they can access them even if the government would "take them away" as both AI are deeply inside the system by now. And the government is under more pressure here, if they take away the feeds they lose access to the most reliable and important piece of security they have and there is no alternative to it that they could use instead. And to compromise the security just to stick it to an arrogant samaratin agent wouldn't be worth it from their perspective.

I never liked the arrogance the Samaritan agents have in their interactions with the government. If they lost the feeds, then Samaritan would be useless. Yet somehow nobody even threatens them with this.

At the end, I love how the security guard says "Do I look like a janitor" to Control when she asks whether the room was cleaned lately in a derogatory tone. This was right after Finch called her a janitor for Samaritan. EDITED: I wrote that before I saw your overview. I saw you caught on to that.

Ok I really don't want you to remain with the wrong impression. Killing the congressman would not have stopped Samaritan from coming online. Eventually Greer would have found a way to put it online. There would have been other congress people or senators, other politicians, etc. Let's face that. It's nice to see scenarios with what would have happened if they killed that guy. Even if less people died in that scenario, it would still have been worse for the group as they would have lost their humanity. No one can know what unintended consequences killing the congressman would have drawn.

Amazing episode. Another 10 for me. The episode from Control's perspective is amazing and its the cool down we needed after Shaw's death. BTW the kid was set up by Samaritan, he said he won the Nautilus game, which was the same game Claire won in episode 2 (established as a recruiting tool for Samaritan). Finch's speech, the best part of the episode. Amazing.

Nolan and a lot of the staff/writers from this show do Westworld on HBO now, he has reused a lot of themes he experimented with here on that show as well.

I love how Finch is almost framed as some sort of evil mastermind in this episode in the interrogation scene (because it is from Control's perspective), fantastic television. Also, on the topic of killing the senator (that you bring up at the end of this episode), I think Finch's point is, what would be the point of stopping an A.I. that is going to treat life as irrelevant and cast off whoever it feels necessary if the A.I. that you are protecting and working at the behest of will do the same thing. He was basically disappointed in what the machine could become (his anger was with the machine, not Shaw and Reese for considering it).
