I believe Sam when he says it's really him but he doesn't know why he doesn't feel anything. Veritas said Sam wasn't human; our spiritual souls are what makes us human (Catholic theology). If Sam has no soul, then yes technically he wouldn't be human (although even more technically, he would be dead LOL). Jensen really hit me with his acting this episode! His loss and confusion and anger - I felt all of that.

The scene where Sam started lying to Veritas when she asked "what are you?!" gave me chills! Also love the little touch of a cat-monster-face she had. I personally don't know the actress from something other than her few cameos in Smallville.
