The simulations are great especially the simplified version and Lionel kissing Root. What I really love are the games of chess Harold plays with The Machine and how touching its message is: anyone who sees the world as a game of chess deserves to lose. Last episode proved that Samaritan definitely sees the world as a chessboard and we now understand why The Machine doesn't

I love how these last 2 episodes are basically representing how human the machine really is (you can see in "The Cold War" Root seems sort of surprised by some of the things The Machine is saying and how much it is starting to sound like finch). In this "stop stock market crash" is a secondary objective and "save assets" is a primary objective. And while the painting is a funny gag, it also adds to this (the fact that it repeats what it thought Finch would say about the painting is such a nice little touch). I also love the repurposing of Shaw's theme from an action theme to a tragic one in the final scene, and framing it around The Machine's perspective (showing the "no valid options") is such a great way of repurposing the episode's premise and themes in a tragic way. There are so many ways this could've just been a really fun gimmick episode (which would've been great) but it is so much more.

I think that initial transition to the chess flashback that starts as sort of a wireframe-y partical-ly construction of the city looked so cool. I also just love the evolution of the Machine’s interface throughout the series.

Just look at the score on IMDB, it's on par with any great episode of GOT, Breaking Bad, etc, you can think of. It also contained my favourite line of the entire show ' Whoever views life as a game of chess deserves to lose'.

With him tricking Greer using the ear piece and with him giving advice to shaw about the bomb vest. It's subtle but proves that despite being the most normal person on the team, he is invaluable to them and quite smart. I love that. This episode is great in so many ways, it shows how much the machine understands our team and it also shows that at this point in the game, Reese would sacrifice himself to save Fusco, like in that one simulation, which is really cool to think about considering how those two started out.

2020-07-21 04:15:46 +0000 UTCI was ready to wait for this episode and as soon as I finish episode 10 I see you dropped this. This was by far my favorite episode. The most obvious reason is all the simulations and the chess lessons. Showing how something as simple as switching rolls changed the outcome so completely. And the chess also showing us how the machine thing and what it values. Like finch said people are not pawns so the machines primary priority was to get them out alive instead of stoping the recession. Also how at the end instead of giving up on Shaw it kept trying to find away of saving her, going to like 0.0000000001% chance of survival. They kept it interesting through even though the story was repeating over and over again. I also liked how during the real version there were slight differences showing how even the machine can’t predict thing 100% accurately. Shoot(ShawRoot) being confirm by the machine and in reality was the highlight for me. That kiss had me screaming. As for the ending, Sarah Shahi was pregnant during filming so they kept her on till they couldn’t hide it. They decided to end the episode with a fade to black before we heard the shot because they didn’t know if she was going to return to the show. P.s for the next episode you should definitely watch the intro

2020-07-21 04:11:47 +0000 UTCThe actress who played Shaw was very pregnant at the time, hence why she wore the big coat and they went to efforts to hide it, unfortunately they had no choice but to write her out, the episode is fantastic though and it confirmed what was obvious for a while Root + Shaw. Don't worry tons more good stuff to come. Fun fact; writers have said that if the actress hadn't been pregnant, there were thoughts to possibly kill Reese off and let shaw become the lead which would have been interesting.
