I’m on Cameron’s side in the debate. This is how I see it – in theory! I realize theory isn’t always practical. A crying infant isn’t trying to manipulate its parents for attention. When an infant cries it may be because the infant is sick, frightened, hungry, bored, or feeling neglected. You can’t expect a child to take care of itself. I say: demonstrate to your infant that whenever it needs you, you will be there for it. This only applies to infants. When a child is old enough to communicate with words, then you can neglect his/her distress if you want just so long as you use your words to explain to the child why they’re being ignored. You don’t want a child to grow up into a teenager who’s cautious about coming to you for help.
