You gotta put yourself a bit more back at the time and what they could do and what they were trying to go for with the show. It aired in 2001 after Lois and Clark, during Buffy and before Supernatural or any of the other modern superhero shows. You are only on episode 5 of a 10 season show. This isn't spoiler because you can already see from first few episodes what I'm saying.They have motw episodes and it's not so much a big bad situation yet except maybe Lionel. The over arching storylines are more about Clark growing up, learning his powers and heritage and about keeping his secret. It's also about Lex and his friendship and where that leads and Lex's relationship with his father. Some motw are better then others but most of the time they are just a vehicle to show the other stuff. It's less motw later and there's great stuff throughout despite some ups and downs or things I thought could be better but I still love the show and it's one of my favorites of all time along with Buffy/Angel and Supernatural. Back then were weren't in a place were you were right in the middle of Superhero Time like say The Flash is or something so back than while it was going on as a huge Superman fan any little tidbit or morsel of info about Kryptonian or Superman lore was like a huge deal.

I feel like Steven is going to love watching this just for Lex and his father, because those two kill it every time they're on screen, especially together.

2020-06-18 16:03:43 +0000 UTCRight now... Lex's ulterior motives involve finding out Clark's secret that will explain how Clark was able to save him. Yes... I do believe that Lex is genuine in his efforts to help Clark, as well as his parents. He cares for him like a younger brother, just like Lex tells him. And he genuinely yearns for Jonathan and Martha to accept him. Especially Jonathan because he longs for a father figure to care about him in ways that his own father never has and never will. However, in spite of his genuine feelings for the Kents, his own curiosity about Clark's secret, his yearning to beat his father, and his need for power always peaks through. In a way... he's much like Rumplestiltskin in Once Upon a Time. Lex is a very complex character, and he's easily my favorite of any superhero villain within any superhero universe.

This is generally seen as a deviation from the comics, where Metropolis is rarely portrayed as being in Kansas at all (usually it's on the East Coast near Gotham).

It's one of the reasons why I love Man of Steel so much, no Kryptonite in sight (outside of a small reference), it was just super-powered alien vs. super-powered alien.

2020-06-17 16:33:51 +0000 UTCGlad you’re still doing this show. I’ll be honest, these “freak of the week” where there’s a one off throwaway villain that appears go on for a bit longer. I think Episode 10 is when stuff starts getting better. If you stick with the show, you’ll really like it as they develop Lex even more. I wish you were doing these twice a week given how many episodes the show has, but at least 1 a week is good. Keep with this show! 👍🏻

While meteor powers are handled very inconsistently on the show, a rule of thumb is that Clark has higher defense powers against them than other people. When Sean touched him the first time, Clark quickly swats him away across the ice, thus avoiding prolonged contact. On the other hand, when a power doesn't work on a physical level but rather attacks the brain directly, Clark is often as vulnerable as everyone else.

2020-06-17 08:40:37 +0000 UTCFun fact: When Sean is with the school's nurse, she takes his temperature and it shows 37 degrees. For Fahrentheit this is way tooo low. As a prop they simply used a Celsius thermometer at which 37 degrees is perfectly normal human temperature. ;-)

It's the little moments like these that makes this show really special. The MOTW may be weak but there are really strong character moments in every episode. It's one of those moments that always stayed with me after all these years. Can't wait to watch!
