2020-11-25 05:54:43 +0000 UTCYes, Cas is Dean’s best friend. Bobby’s a father figure, Sam is his brother....and at this time the show doesn’t really have other frequently recurring characters. Though it might have been surprising he still had that strong of a feeling after Cas broke Sam’s wall, but I think that shows the depth of the “profound bound” he has with Cas. Dean still thinks of Sam as a little brother to be protected and I think Cas filled the need Dean had for a friend.

During the first few seasons, it felt like Dean was the most critical character of the plot, and now it's starting to shift to where Sam is becoming the focal point and it's really interesting. In my opinion, Sam's conflict with the Lucifer hallucinations is the best part of Season 7.
