Also, Not sure if it has ever been mentioned to you yet, but call it a fun fact, or a weird fact, but not long after this episode aired the actors who play Dexter and Debra were married IRL.

2019-12-10 11:26:53 +0000 UTC"We've all slept with a CI..." omfg I spat my coffee. 😂😂😂 I actually love this episode, it's one of my favorites in the series - but I think a lot of that comes from my personal resentment of season finales with giant cliffhangers. Like, I don't mind cliffhangers in general, and I love plot twists (good ones, anyway), but I've been party to too many shows canceled after one, so I much prefer for any cliffhangers to be tucked into a seasonal plot wrap-up. And I do agree that this episode has a bit of that feeling you mentioned of not wanting to go into s4 with a bunch of loose threads, almost pat... I just like that. Lol. Re; a couple of the things you brought up while watching: Would Dexter's blood be left at the Skinner crime scene?: I actually didn't cotton on to this until the third time I'd seen the episode, but when Dexter's climbing out the window, he's carrying both the knife the Skinner used to cut him, and the ropes with which he was tied, to take as much of his own DNA from the scene as possible. As to the "why would he leave?" part, well, two things - he has no real good reason to have been chosen by the Skinner (and any further investigation of Miguel is against his interests), and he's going to be late for his own wedding if they see him there. Sil's undisturbed behavior right after her husband is murdered: This I actually completely understand? (It actually takes a far bigger suspension of my disbelief to see Sil and Rita - or Dexter and Miguel, for that matter - to be bff's after like a month of double dates and hanging out.) I think Silvia already began mourning her relationship when she thought Miguel was cheating on her. She stood up for herself and kicked him out, and some people just have that innate ability to compartmentalize their feelings in that way - the good goes here, the bad there. I mean, I've got no doubt she was still grieving, but as JK Rowling likes to say, we didn't see it because it wasn't relative to the story. Two more things (sorry I know this is long and rambly): In my head, this episode represents the huge amount of growth Dexter has gone through since the first episode. Not just getting married, but accepting that part of him - the part that *wants* to get married, and be a father, the joy of normality for its own sake rather than to cover the depths of his darkness. Like, he finally, really gets it here, the appeal. Every time he's mentioned it before, it's always felt as though he's examining normality from under a microscope. Like: sure, I'll pretend to be this guys's friend because I kinda like him and whoops he caught me, but then...oh, he's *like* me, this could be fun! He Almost all of what he enjoyed was skewed with his own darkness. Idk, I'm not explaining my feelings on the subjective very well I think, but I sensed a long-built shift in this episode. And I think that shot of the blood dripping onto Rita's pure gown is the *perfect* symbolic image, a perfect metaphor of that: a blood stain on something expansive and clean, either signifying that he can live that life no matter how dark he's been, or that no matter how he tries to live that life, it'll always be stained by his desires. Oh, oh!! And because I read the books too (the show is better by far imo. ...well, very very different, at least), I have to mention that the line Dexter says in his closing monologue "Demented Daddy Dexter" is a direct nod to their titles: "Darkly Dreaming Dexter", "Dearly Devoted Dexter", etc. So there's that too. Okay, I'm done, sorry! 😂 Loved your reaction, looking forward to s4!
