Shawn found the key because he remembered Jack shutting that drawer of the coffee table when they found him in the house, and if the guys that broke in didn't find it, that means that it wasn't just sitting in the drawer. If you want to watch a show about searching for artifacts, I feel like you should give Warehouse 13 another chance. I watched your reaction to episode 1, which I know is a little on the slow side, but you might still get a kick out of it. One of the creators of the show is Jane Espenson, who wrote for Buffy and was a co-executive producer for OUaT, and has worked on several other shows you know/watch. It's not ground-breaking television or anything, but I think it's a fun show.
