Honestly, although he could have gone about it a different way, I'm on Dean's side here. If it was some leggy blonde scampering around after Dean wanting his attention and he chooses to spend time with her instead of Rory, we'd be all up in arms about how big of a jerk he is. Rory's not his property but she is his girlfriend. She's not dumb enough to not know what Jess is doing and what she's doing is hurting Dean and why it's hurting him. She's smart enough to know it's not okay. If she really is starting to like Jess, she should break things off with Dean so she can explore that. But still holding onto Dean while exploring her affections for Jess and getting all defensive every time someone points out that he's a troublemaker, getting defensive about how she's just being a friend, is wrong. I like Lorelai's talk with Rory at the end there but I wish she would have said something about this.

I don't like Jess, but Dean saying "I don't think Rory should be hanging out with Jess" to her mother, behind Rory's back is a dick move to say the least! First off, Rory is 17 years old. She's not a child. She's old enough to make her own friends and she definitely shouldn't have to make sure Dean is okay with it. He always has to know where she is and who she's with. I've noticed this a lot over the first two seasons. It sends up major red flags. She's your girlfriend, not your property. Rory can have friends outside of Dean, her mom and Lane. Dean doesn't get to dictate that. Lorelai shouldn't of just taken Dean's side here. It wasn't fair. She constantly thinks that anytime a guy is involved, Rory is doomed to repeat her mistakes, but she isn't giving Rory any credit. Rory is NOT her mother. They may be similar in a lot of ways, but Rory can make her own decisions. I don't like either Jess or Dean but Dean is way too controlling and possessive and it's hard to watch. Rory seems to tip-toe around so she doesn't make him angry which is really worrying.

I don't get the Jess love, he's a douche and is purposely trying to cause confusion between Dean/Rory. Emily had a point, but she always takes it too far. She was giving Lorelai good advice until she told her to become controlling and lock Rory away. I don't blame Lorelai at all for realizing she needed to trust Rory after her mother's advice.

It may seem far-fetched, but I know a fair few people who’ve had lived experiences that are very close to this.

Rory is making these decisions and making excuses for the decisions she is making. Jess kept the bracelet fell off Rory’s wrist. It’s the bracelet Dean made for her.
