Numerous improvements have been made along the way
The FreeCM extension is free and open-source (MIT)
The major work on the new Videochat Extension begins
We have successfully transitioned Coomeet Free support to a new standalone extension, available for free under the MIT open-source license.
We have also fixed numerous bugs and made many improvements compared to the original Videochat Extension.
Why?
Videochat Extension aimed to improve user experience across many chat platforms. Coomeet Free was one of the first platforms to receive support. However, with each new platform we tried to add, we faced increasing challenges during the review process. Our big expansion to dozens of platforms was put on hold until we could fully support Omegle. And after Omegle shut down... we just lost motivation.
Our project is moving away from modifying websites because of ome.tv's sudden policy change, but Coomeet Free never caused us such problems.
We intend to stay true to our policy of neutrality, acceptable use, and functional limitations. So we're splitting off Coomeet Free support into a free separate extension under the MIT open-source license, and finally starting major work to rebuild Videochat Extension from scratch.
We wasted a lot of time trying to figure out what was happening with ome.tv and putting puzzle pieces together. But now it's clear - Videochat Extension will no longer improve specific websites. They either die or turn against our project, which creates significant challenges with minimal benefits.
What's next?
Moving forward, we're focusing exclusively on universal solutions - developing code that works seamlessly across all websites. We're ending website-specific support to embrace a more sustainable and platform-independent approach.
This is very important because now we can completely remove the existing codebase and start iterating on our new tool - a universal geolocator and webrtc monitor that works everywhere, not only on some Omegle-like sites.
