2023-04-28 23:35:20 +0000 UTCHi Allies You will no doubt have covered earlier, UK regulatory bodies have blocked the Microsoft / Activision, Blizzard, King merger, pending appeals. The reason that they gave was for more competition in the cloud gaming space. To me, this is the funniest thing I've ever seen in videogames. I remember being excited for Gaikai's vision of cloud gaming in 2008 when I couldn't afford gaming PCs, but cloud gaming has proven to be a failed venture as recently as last year with the collapse of Stadia. 15 years of failure is a mighty track record. My question to the panel, what is your favourite failure in gaming? Don't say Duke Nukem Forever all at once. L&R

2023-04-27 13:04:02 +0000 UTCHi Allies In the most recent episode of Frametrap, I brought up how it's been 6 years since Nier Automata's release, and despite its incredible success, we still haven't seen a new Nier (or Drakengard) game announcement yet. Not even a simple "It's in development" acknowledgment, akin to Dragon Quest 12. The allies on the panel theorized that the massive success of Nier Automata and their numerous collaborations with different products, could be why we've only gotten a remake of the first Nier and few ports of Automata these past few years, instead of a sequel. The logic being that Square might want to ride the success of Automata as much as they can before moving on. I honestly hadn't thought about it this way, and that line of thinking does make sense to some degree. So with that point in mind, I wanted to ask, do you think there is something as being too successful? Would've we had a new Nier by now if Automata sold, say 3 million, instead of its current 7.5 million figure? And thinking on the development side of things, do you think Automata's massive success might've put even more pressure on the developers, resulting in such a long gap between Automata and its presumed sequel? Thoughts? Cheers.

2023-04-27 01:09:14 +0000 UTCHey Allies, I just finished RE4 Remake and while I love the game, I have to say I like the original versions of the characters better. I know it's a hot take, (come at me Huber and Damiani), but there's just something about the original versions personalities I liked more. Below is a list of a few characters who also went through personality changes, tell me which ones you like more, hope you have fun. L&R, L. E. L. (You pronounce my name by saying each letter individually) Feel free to add more Blood: Jak, from Jak & Daxter: Do you prefer the jolly more innocent version from the first game or the hard edge, gun-toting rebel from the second game? Samus, from Metroid: Do you prefer the mostly silent tempered version from Metroid Dread, or the more talkative emotional version from Other M? Raiden, from Metal Gear Series: Do you prefer the ignorant lone soldier version of MGS2, or the maniacal Jack the Ripper from Revengeance? Dante, from Devil May Cry: Do prefer the cocky teen from Devil May Cry 3, or the cocky teen from DMC?

2023-04-26 23:59:51 +0000 UTCHello Allies, What is your Gold Standard game in a genre you compare other games to? For me, puzzle games will always be compared to Myst, shoutout to Isla for being another Myst fan, one of my favorite games of all time. I would also base my thoughts on puzzle games to my feeling when playing Myst, and most never really come close, with the exception on Obduction, for obvious reasons. Resident Evil 2 for survival horror, Super Metroid to Metroidvania, the list goes on. What are some of the allies gold standard of their favorite genres?

2023-04-26 12:21:23 +0000 UTC(pronounce Lootin) GAME: Halo: Person, Place or Ship Pt.2! Boy, last week's Halo news was kind of a bummer... anyways, here's Person, Place, or Ship Volume 2, where I give you a proper noun from the Halo universe and say if it's a Person Place or a Ship. A few of these are from the games but most come from books and other expanded media. Foe Hammer PERSON! Real name; Carol Rawley. she is the pelican pilot flying you from level to level in Halo Combat Evolved. The call sign is a reference to the name of level 14 of Bungie’s own Marathon Infinity, which is it’s self a reference to Gandalf’s sword Glamdring which translates to Foe-Hammer Bad Moon Rising SHIP! An Eclipse-class stealth prowler used by ONI to conduct backdoor shady deals and other “special operations” Sundown PLACE! A human colonized world that is a popular vacation spot due to its tropical climate and the unusual tilt to Its axis that gives it the appearance of a perpetual sunset during the day Tends to Drift PERSON! One of the aliens known as Huragoks or Engineers, a race living super computers descended form Forerunner bio-computers. They are jellyfish like creatures that float around using the big gas bladders on their backs. Huragok are named for how they float when they are first born. Radiant Perception SHIP! A Covenant Sinaris-pattern heavy destroyer, part of the Fleet of Glorious Interdiction. It kind of looks like a big purple high heel shoe imo. Splendid-Dust-of-Ancient-Suns PERSON! A young Forerunner politician, he was one of a handful of forerunners chosen to survive the firing of the halo rings and carry out The Librarian’s plans for reseeding the galaxy with life. A quirk of his unique genetic engineering meant that he was one of the few Forerunners capable of smiling. Leaks Repaired PERSON! another Huragok . Huragok love to tinker with technology, they have many subdividing cilia that they use to effortlessly disassemble, repair, improve, and reassemble any piece of technology you put in front of them Dark Was The Night SHIP! A UNSC cargo vessel that crashed and was stranded just before the end of the war. It was a full year before its surviving crew learned humans had won. Erde-Tyrene PLACE! The ancient, pre-halo-firing, name for Earth Roman Blue SHIP! A Halcyon- class light cruiser, The same model as The Pillar of Autumn from Halo 1, I’m not sure what “light” is supposed to mean in the designation because these things are huge. Growth-Through-Trial-of-Change PERSON! One of the rare Forerunners to change her Rate form Builder to Lifeworker. Her family disowned her as a result and were subsequently killed by an exploding star. Losing Hand PLACE! A tiny fishing settlement on a harsh tundra world on the edge of human colonized space. They were completely isolated from the UNSC and the war until the UNSC Dark Was the Night crashed into their windfarm, destroying their only source of power. Requires Adjustment PERSON! Huragok again, Adj for short. The Huragok had no actual allegiance during the war, instead they were treated as a highly valuable resource as just a 2 or 3 could maintain an entire ship on their own. Was this slavery? Probably, But a Huragok wants for nothing but companionship, yeast paste, and a steady stream of fun new technology to play with. Day-Chaser Makes Paths Long-stretch Morning Riser PERSON! An ancient, pre-halo human of the Florian sub-species (known as Homo floresiensis today/irl). Thousands of years before the Halos were fired, Forerunners defeated Humanity in a galaxy spanning war for land. As punishment for humanity's aggression, the Forerunners devolved the surviving humans and relocated them to Erde-Tyrene where they could re-develop under the Forerunners’ careful design, resulting in the many variations of hominid who’s remains we’re still discovering and studying today. Thanks for playing, sorry if my little factoids were too wordy, I just love talking about Halo lore. L&R -Colin

2023-04-26 04:51:33 +0000 UTCLove and Respect: Hey Allies, So a little over a week ago I was laid off from my job of over 8 years, a feeling I'm sure you're all familiar with. I was wondering what you guys have done to navigate those uncertain times and what that journey was like for you. Either from the closure of game trailers or another job you had before that. Just looking for some additional insight/ tips from people who have been through this. I've already done the typical stuff of updating my resume, reaching out to people I know, and the standard searching on job sites but not sure of what else to do beyond that currently. Thanks for any advice you can give. Love and respect, Chris Eyerly

2023-04-26 02:56:56 +0000 UTCI posted this on Frame Trap but I feel it may be a better fit for L&R You guys ever hear anyone say “all game stories are bad” or “the best game stories would be mid when compared to even an average movie?” Personally I thought we moved past this about a decade ago but the attitude is still definitely out there, I’ve even heard people say they skip cutscenes because all game stories are bad anyway. I personally think these people should stop living in the past and get over the fact that games dont have high scores at the top of the screen anymore. It rubs me the wrong way because I think its odd that people seem so desperate to hold on to the idea that games are more akin to toys than an interactive form of media, when I’ve always seen games as an artform and not just a plaything to massage my dopamine receptors. Would love to know you guy’s thoughts on
