Ghost Recon Breakpoint might be the biggest game announcement of the year, but it wouldn’t be Easy Allies if we didn’t have more to say about Final Fantasy VII Remake.

Easy Allies Podcast #162 - Video

Comments

CORRECTION: follow-up to my post about buying used PS3 and games... bought Gran Turismo 5 for $2.95, Wolfenstein for $7.95, can't find receipt for Valkyria Chronicles but I think it was less than $5... bought the plastic-sliding door PS3, 500GB...

Crunching in the industry is standard practice and sometimes it's even scheduled beforehand. These companies we are finding out are using it now are not the exception, they are the norm. I feel like "working in games is a dream job!" contributes a lot to overworked employees and low wages compared to other similar industries. I believe things will improve as the industry grows older and more mature. Love & Respect -Anders

If Damiani wants to keep bringing up social justice stuff, he should be more fair. For sure there will be people whining about Tifa having her designed change, and claim its censorship. But if they keep Tifas original design, people on the left will scream up and down how its objectification and sexist. He only brings up one side of this. Also he semi mis-represents the point people are making about Aerith. Most are not criticizing her looks in terms of attractinvess. They are ltierally saying the original Aerith had cutest personality. That the new Aerith in the trailer, comes off as more stoic and mature. So its not just about her physical looks. Although the re-imaging has her look a lot more mature, compared to the original (which she comes off more like a doe eyed girl). That said, this is a re-impinging so what do people expect. But if Damiani is going to continue to bring this stuff up, he needs to be fair to all sides. He didnt even mention the fact that, there were people on the social justice side, who were angry that Barret looked too white. That he looked white washed: https://www.resetera.com/threads/final-fantasy-vii-remake-some-fans-are-mad-because-barret-looks-white.117164/ If they are going to keep bringing up issues like this, they need to be fair. It feels so one sided.

Hey, to that person that asked about down times and leaving their job: I was in potentially a very similar situation as you, and I can tell you that you probably made one of the best decisions of your life. I worked in retail from 15 to 32 (worse yet, 11 years of which were in a mall) and was probably close to going postal. I decided to finally (after 13ish years) go to school and try to get a bachelor's in CS. Just not having the grind alone has made the decision worth it, and I dunno about what job you left, but for me: having Christmas time not be a pall that is cast over you for 2 months has made me actually able to enjoy Christmas again. I dunno if you're experiencing depression over leaving the job like the allies insinuate, but I can't imagine you feeling freer than you do right now. Congratulations. (I'm gonna try and find your comment as well to post this to you if you don't see it here)

Why? I haven't even played it yet. -Blood

Sekiro has an option to remove blood.

I laughed at Damiani's joke, but i'm comically easy ;)

Best take to me "He's Mr. T". That's always how I read him in my mind. Not everyone has to be Dudley. We can have Balrog too.

POSSIBLY IMPORTANT AND NEGLECTED VIEWPOINT ON BARRET: A LOT of POC LOVE how Barret is portrayed. The thing is you can't say he's not fleshed out. He is. He's got a great story and past. He's heroic as shit. Cares about the planet enough to become an eco terrorist and then later go on a quest to save it. He's way more than just how he talks. Lots of great "Hey leave Barret how he is!" viewpoints here: https://twitter.com/Robaato_Art/status/1127496131343110145

I hope Kyle is reading this. I've been thinking about Sony making a Direct-style E3 presentation and how it could move the industry forward. So imagine playstation app, you watch Direct there and then it lets you STREAM DEATH STRANDING DEMO or LAST OF US PART II TEASER through Playstation Now or something, so you don't need to wait in lines and EVERYONE can get in on it. Like Resident Evil 7 Beginning Hour: we watch a video, and then have an opportunity to download or stream a short teaser demo. This could be an evolution of shadowdrops.

Bad name for the recurring epic store segment: Feelin’ Iffy B

SWEET FRAME TRAP STYLE!

I liked the ending of Lost too, Huber. Also liking this season of GoT. Haters gonna hate.

Does removing or limiting the violence in MK count as violating creators' intent? It would appear to me very similar to the Sekiro/difficulty arguement, and you came away from each with what appear to be opposite conclusions. I'm curious what anyone else thinks or could elaborate.

DId you laugh at Damiani's joke? - https://www.strawpoll.me/17998181

Since you guys were talking about the Epic Store I wanna give some feedback. Couple months ago (around the Metro Exodus controversy) I commented talking about how the prices on EGS were somewhat higher here in Brazil compared to Steam. Gladly I can say that this has changed. Even though the prices are still displayed in dollars the prices are much more reasonable, with games such as Borderlands 3 being sold at 30 dollars for the Standard Edition (45$ and 60$ for the Deluxe and Super Deluxe). Not a fan of EGS and their exclusivity deals but at least they are doing something to improve their store it seems. L&R and shout out Barry Block!

To address Damiani, I would simply refer to him the Easy Allies stance on spoilers for Links Awakening. These games have a generation gap. As an example, by the time this game comes out, my son will be around the same age as I was when the original came out. He has very little knowledge of the game and no real desire to seek out spoilers. I would hope to preserve him the same emotions that I felt my first playthrough.

Not so much a CORRECTION but a clean-up. The Japanese audience backlash for Aerith was around her perceived age. Basically, they felt she looked to old. Lore is though that she is 22 at the time of FF7 so she looks fine.

You know what’s weird about walks is when ppl approach you thinking ur lost lol

Spoilers apply to contemporary works; but for older games that are just hard to go back to? Shoot, remove the spoilers and let kids look and see why it was so special when it was.

At 39:40, the conversation Damiani brings up is incredibly important when it comes to games preservation and implementing them into liberal arts study. We have to let go of our own attachments and allow these games to be discussed, studied, and enjoyed in THAT light if we want these games to influence our greater culture in any way.

I also laughed at Damiani's joke.

Thanks so much for touching on the Epic/Psyonix acquisition. I have an idea for a future segment name for continued coverage of Epic Game Store deals: The Epic Scoop. You know because you've got another "scoop" on Epic literally "scooping" up exclusivity deals.

I laughed at Damiani's joke.

A podcast coming at 20:00 here in germany. finally the 2 days early become true :D thanks <3

Last time a podcast was this early it was called frame trap

Good intentional choice on the lights. I like the deliberate intent! Hoping that the 3 person podcast won't become a thing while Jones is out for a while. Fine as a one off, but I like more voices for the weekly news rather than less. Might just be scheduling issues this week though!
