Huber Syndrome - System Sellers

The weird and specific one I have is buying a PS3 for two games in 2009. First one is not a big surprise: Demon's Souls. It seemed like everyone was talking about it constantly at the time. I played the first level and damn, I had to put the game down until Christmas break because I knew I'd fail courses if I didn't. Ended up platinuming it over the Christmas break. Now the second game is more interesting: Way of the Samurai 3! I love samurai movies (both jidaigeki and chambara) and this game just seemed so cool despite the obvious "jank". I was right, the game is awesome. It's short but it's designed to be replayed with 22 (!) different endings. I still can't think of a better samurai game, though Total War: Shogun 2 was a lot of fun. I hope Ghost of Tsushima delivers, because there just aren't enough of games in this setting.

What happened to Talking Syndrome? Is there a reason it's not posted on YouTube anymore?

N64 for GoldenEye, GameCube for TLoZ The Wind Waker, Xbox for Halo, Wii for TLoZ Twilight Princess, 360 for Halo 3, PS3 for MGS4, 3DS for TLoZ Ocarina of Time 3D and a PS4 for Uncharted 4. And Switch is incoming for Super Mario Odyssey (and TLoZ Breath of the Wild of course ) :)

For me it was Soul Blade that made me buy an original Playstation. I was so impressed with the graphics, specifically the waving ponytail of Mitsurugi when he moves, I just had to have it!

For me, it is Persona 5 and Persona 4 Golden, because of these two games now I own Playstation 4 and Vita. It's just soo worth it to play these games!

My list =D 1984ish Nintendo Entertainment System - Super Mario Brothers. Technically my parents paid for this one but it was Mario that prompted the constant pestering. 1991ish Super Nintendo Entertainment System - Super Mario World / Final Fantasy II. Both of these games were must-haves for me and equally sold the system. There have actually been a huge list of additional PC titles that inspired me to purchase a newer PC, but this was the first. 1992 Ultima VII: The Black Gate - Bouht a new PC for it. Equipped with the then-incredible 486DX2 running at 33mhz. 1996 Nintendo 64 - Super Mario 64. 1997 Playstation - Final Fantasy VII. 2002 Game Cube - Metroid Prime. Praying Nintendo will release a Metroid Prime "All Stars" with all three games remastered on the Switch. 2008 Playstation 3 - Metal Gear Solid IV (Bundle). 2015 Playstation 4 - Uncharted Collection (Bundle). 2017 Nintendo Switch - Legent of Zelda Breath of the Wild. I had a lot of other systems as well but these were the ones that I bought just to play a specific game.

I've been with Nintendo mostly, most of the time the others have to bring something that's appealing to me in a way Nintendo can't. Like Ninja Gaiden on the Xbox, GTA on playstation 2, Batman and Bloodborne on PS4. I still think Nintendo brings the fun and varied gameplay and everyone else can bring an emotional or interesting story.

Huber - I was plum crazy for Crazy Taxi in the arcades. I saw that it was on the Dreamcast and me and my friends spent HOURS playing it. Great times, great times.

Agreed Mr. Huber - GT3 is one of the greats! (In fact, my PS3 is busted and I do not have a PS4. I connected the PS2 back...first game loaded GT3 and I have not looked back).

I remember I bought a ps4 for Bloodborne, I played transistor the day before the release date in the wait and pleasantly surprised by how good it was.

I had the same graphics card problem but it was with Star Wars The Phantom Menace. Had to get a Voodoo2. Don't think I've ever gotten a console for a specific game though. When I was a kid I got a Mega Drive. When that broke my parents gave me a SNES. When that broke I was given an N64. Didn't get a PS2 until late in its life cycle and then it was for the huge library. Now that I can afford them myself I usually just get them to have them in case a cool game comes out.

A friend of mine had a PS3 with Motorstorm. It was the racing game of my dreams. I bought the system - and borrowed the game from him. Bought it later of cause and all the upcoming Motorstorm games, too. When evolution Studios announced another standard exotic cars racing game (Driveclub), I was dashed to the ground.

Halo and Halo 2 pretty much singlehandedly kept the Xbox afloat.

I was gifted my PS One for Christmas at six years old that was bundled with Spyro: The Dragon. The PS2 and Gamecube were also Christmas gifts, but I don't recall specific games I received at the time that were system sellers for me. The Xbox 360 was a birthday gift, but it was already out for sometime before I received it. I purchased my PS4 and Xbox One, not for a game that was out, but on the promise of what was to come (Though I did get the Last of Us Remastered, The Order: 1886 and Halo: The Master Chief collection all free respectively). So that leaves the PS3. As a gift for graduating high school, and several years into the PS3's life, I was allowed to get the system and there was one game I had my eye on. Not much was out at the time that appealed to me, but one franchise I hold near and dear: Ratchet & Clank: Tools of Destruction I remember just starting the game and after the opening scenes, just sat there, mouth agape, completely taken at just how beautiful it was. I bought a PS3 to exclusively play R&C: ToD and with the various games I've gotten since, that was a great purchase.

I sold my Playstation and bought a Saturn for Fighting Vipers. I soon after sold the Saturn and bought another Playstation. Ah the hype generated in magazines controlled me back then.

This has happened to me twice. First up was when I owned a gamecube, loved the system. Great single player games. Super Mario Sunshine, Windwaker, Tales of Symphonia, the list goes on. I loved these games but they were all getting old for me having completed them multiple times each. Then one day I go to a buddies house and we had a 4 player Halo 2 session for hours, I was hooked, couldnt get it out of my head. The next day, I pack up all my gamecube games and gamecube and trade it ALL in for an OG xbox and Halo 2 and I never looked back. Second time was for Bloodborne. Didn't have to trade anything in this time. Saw the trailer, saw FromSoft's name. Bought a PS4 and Bloodborne when it released. Had to, no other way around it! 10/10 game.

GameCube: Starfox Adventure! Take Starfox! Throw in Dinosaurs! At the time I was in love with JP, so that game sold me. Started playing it then I realized uh-oh! I need a memory card lol good times. Loved that game.

Bought the original Xbox for Halo and Fable. Wouldn't necessarily make that specific purchase again. Then bought the PS3 for Uncharted and free on-line multiplayer, compared to the Xbox at that time (those were the days).

Oh man, good episode... so many memories about this kind of stuff. I bought a 360 when the first Gears of War came out. It looks so good, had co-op, and I had the funds at the time to pull the trigger. This was all on a whim, and I called up a friend to see if he wanted to tag along for the ride. Pick up my friend, and try my first stop: the local Walmart. We pop into the electronics, no dice... neither in stock. Now, my friend was working at that exact Walmart. Turns out he was scheduled to work that day and called in sick when I rang him up to go 360 hunting. Told the store that his Grandma just died and he absolutely couldn't go to work. Of course he failed to mention that until after we already scoped out the store. Eventually we did find both the console and the game, and crushed that campaign.

That one special effect in this episode was amazing. Well done.

MGS 4 and PS3 bundle was the best. Still got that sweet PS3 that runs PS2 and PS1 games (Bushido Blade!)

bought psone for megaman x4 and megaman 8. Then met with FF8 (and square) my brother bought for me. Now still planning to buy ps4 for FFXV and KH 2.8 and 3, still saving.

Way back in 2003 I was 4 years into being the biggest matrix fan ever. And when I saw that a new game that was both the matrix and a story that linked the next movie I had to have it. I had to have it so much that I bought the game without owning the system. It was about 2 months before I could afford the Xbox to play the game that I had been starring at on my shelf. So technically that’s the game that got me to buy a Xbox. Worth it, and also not worth it.
