I just want to add my opinion to when the quality of Persona 5's localization was brought up. Personally, I enjoyed enjoyed Persona 5 immensely from the first hour to 179th when I finished watching the credits scroll. To me the writing and localization was exactly as good as it needed be to communicate the emotional message & meaning of the story and characters expression. Frankly I think it did more than a good job to lead through more than 150 hours of gameplay. Further more, my wife is Japanese- and speaks fluently as she was born & raised there; and when often hearing my second play-through with the Japanese audio, she often noticed that it matched with the dialogue perfectly fine (more or less) whenever she was observing the game. So I think Persona 5- the Game of the Year for 2017 does need to be worried about what people might think of its localization when being discussed for the best of the best over next several months.

Wanted to second this.

In the Persona 5 localization discussion in the email section, I feel like there may have been a misunderstanding by the panel with what the email writer meant when they criticized the game's localization. It's not about pronunciations or changes from Japanese, the problem is that the writing sounds very stiff and awkward, like an early draft rather than a completed work. Speaking for myself, as a layman, I don't think the localization is terrible so much as it is profoundly mediocre and far below the high bar set by Atlus in the past. Just my 2 cents. As always, loved the podcast! Hyped for Xenoblade 2!

I cannot tell you how happy I am to hear y'all gush about Skyrim. I *still* love it (now on my 5th playthrough I think) and I felt really slighted last year when someone on the Podcast said that people who were excited for Skyrim on the switch "aren't our audience". That really, REALLY stung. But -- oh, how happy, happy this discussion made me feel! Thank you!!!

Yeah, I thought something was off here.

I like that Hot Take, but Damiani mocking people for being overly negative on the switch games schedule ah ah ah Damiani, you were the one saying there's no games after Zelda for weeks (I think it was around Arms release, which you didn't even acknowledged) ... You can't talk about the negative bandwagon and not admit you were clearly a part of it. I haven't seen you praise switch indie library when Graceful Explosion Machines, Snake Pass, Blaster Master or Mr Shifty were doing great sales and pretty nice reviews. I respect your opinion if those games don't interest you, but pretending you were not in that "negative bandwagon" is a bit much :p

I was kinda on a wait-and-see situation with Xenoblade Chronicles 2 and not getting it day 1, but Ben, you really sold it...you really sold it to me! Can't wait to do a nuclear explosion! :D

If anyone else is stuck in Ben's Animal Crossing pants situation, you can get the default pants back by putting on a dress and then replacing it with a shirt.

I don't think there is any story spoilers, gameplay spoilers sure, and maybe a bit of hinting at the story structure but I don't think it qualifies as a spoiler on its own.

X is more similar to the past series of Tetsuya Takahashi like Xenogears and Xenosaga which placed much heavier emphasis on world and lore building compare to intrapersonal relationships, not to say they have bad character driven stories (quite opposite in fact) but that people always comes second compare to the world they live in. With Chronicles one they instead went for a more personal approach and focused on telling the complete tale of its people than a complex world, while I enjoyed it very much it is not why I play Tetsuya Takahashi games, at least not over other people's, so X is much more my cup of tea, it starts slow I understand, but it is building up to a much more interesting saga than Chronicles' stand alone tales could in my personal opinion. I hope this time Takahashi can finally show his complete vision in gaming, Xenogear and Xenosaga series both ended on an incomplete note, with Nintendo's blessing we might finally get to see an uncompromised vision through X. I can't wait for X2.

I see a half hour discussion on xenoblade and I'm worried how spoiler-heavy it gets... may skip that.
