Sonic Forces - Easy Allies Review

Even the 2d classic sonic gameplay is off. Mania is probably the best Sonic should feel in 2d.

Before I had even watched this review I was already forming in my head what hellish comments I would leave in the wake of my broken heart. Fortunately Ben did a fantastic job and summed up exactly as I feel about SONIC FORCES, if a little bit gentler than I would have been. However If I could add some truly frustrated commentary I would say: .... seriously...WTF is Sega's problem? It's like this: After Sonic Generations I felt really good about the direction & level of quality the Sonic franchise was headed towards. Then we got Sonic The Lost World (a Nintendo exclusive), which was a significant step backward and made me a bit distressed...but then Sonic Mania was released and the level of quality sky rocketed back up to where Sonic Generations was if not more so. Leaving us just a couple of months before SONIC FORCES release. Now Sonic Forces is out and it is clearly obvious that Sega has missed another opportunity to bring Sonic to a intelligent & high quality level of modern gaming that the franchise deserves to be at. I mean the game is not terrible, but it is very weak, and is especially weak in terms of executing what a Sonic game should feel & play like (which is a double sin)- particularly when it comes to character movement, level design and overall Art Direction (the music made me want to rip my ears off). Is Sega so greedy & shallow that they are willing to prostitute Sonic this way in order to make a low budget game that will earn them cheap buck? Have they no respect for Sonic, for the Fans? Why can't Sega invest into Sonic's gaming future they way Nintendo does Mario? It is not impossible to imagine the possibility of a "Sonic Odyssey" game to exist in Sega's Future; they just need to be willing to spend the time, money, effort and strive to foster new creative ideas for Sonic games to be played as a modern 3D experience. There is a lot more want to say...and Ideas I have... But honestly I am still so upset with many aspects of the game....I just can't.. All I will say is that I hope in a now post Sonic Forces world, Sega will give Christian Whitehead a chance lead or help Co-develop a new Full Fledged Sonic Game. I thank anyone who listened to my heart broken rant. Here's to the future.

Classic Sonic is hard to control after playing mania so much, not too bad for a 3d Sonic game otherwise. That said it definitely deserves the ratings it's getting

i think classic sonic stages are fine some took me many replays to learn the fastest routes and find all alt pathways example at the start of CP stop at the top of the ramp and spin dash down it. the music is a little off though.

Pretty good review. I know not to use the "but children will like it" excuse, but it really does feel like Sonic Team did a good job building your OC up and putting them beside Sonic as equals, plus Fist Bump is such a feel-good song. Apparently Sega gave the order from above to force Sonic Team to include Classic Sonic, which kinda bogged down the overall game though. Huber once said "Swimming in 6s", and I think that suits this game honestly. Know lots of people enjoying replaying through the stages for high ranks, collectibles, OC gear unlocks, and the pursuit of fast. Definitely better stuff to spend time with in 2017, but least this wasn't a complete failure.
