EZA E3 Stream Coverage Announcement

Hello fellow Allies!

As we get ready to begin our E3 coverage, we wanted to give everyone a heads up regarding something new we will be implementing this year. During our press conference reaction streams, we will be enabling sub only mode for the Twitch chat. We decided to go this route to ensure a more enjoyable chat experience for those who want to engage in civil discussions and to alleviate the strain put on our volunteer moderators. The remainder of our streams will have the chat set to follower mode as we normally do for our big streams. As always, we welcome your feedback and suggestions.

Edit: Two more clarifications as I see people in the comments asking about these.

1) Sub notifications will be off during the press conference reactions.

2) The pre-and-post show discussion segments for each conference will be follower only mode, not sub only.

To see the full schedule for our E3 streams, head over to http://www.easyallies.com

Will all of the streams be posted on the YouTube channel?

I think 3-month Follower mode is too much too. People who only follow Youtube content and only come to Twitch during E3 won't have followed for 3 months. Why exclude them? I think like an hour is enough. It's more than enough to turn trolls away.

Olf Himself

Yes, everyone can watch. It's just chat that is limited.

Olf Himself

Just to clarify, will I be able to watch the streams if I am a Patreon-only member? (Sorry, not so familiar with twitch)

As someone who has been around since day 1 both as a patron and a twitch sub, I've gotta say this feels a bit wrong. If what people are saying is true, then I feel like the 3-month follower thing would be the best option. EZA is able to do what they do because of patrons, so excluding some of them because they can't afford both.....feels bad, man. Just my 2 cents.

Minamik

I am a Patron but not a Twitch sub. I support this decision.

LeeLore

I can see why none subs would be upset (rightfully so). On the other hand I support this decision. This will stop the chat from being flooded as well as "E3 Trolls" from coming in and stir things up! In a perfect world we would only get people in that keeps things smooth, but thats not the case. I mean we can test and see how this goes! will likely be busy in the chat regardless

Sebastian Hall

I can see both sides of the coin. I personally just watch the archives, and I'm not really active in chat most of the time so I'm fine with it.

Steven Vella

If this doesn't work at least we know also It will be sub only mode during the presentations not the Post Show and Preshow. Also there's 3 days of E3 Coverage.

Ibrahim Sozer

As a supporter on Twitch and here on Patreon, this just feels... Unnecessary? Like, chat will still be going a mile a minute, but there will also now be people who feel excluded? Might as well just let chat go nuts. I know I won't be trying to talk mid-conference because there are games to be seen. That being said, I don't watch Twitch much. Is this common? It just feels uninviting.

Max Jahner

Also E3 Day One, Two, Three is about 12 hours long

Ibrahim Sozer

Everyone seems to be upset that they won't be able to "interact" with others in a chat room with thousands of people spamming emotes... You wouldn't be able to anyways.

Tokyo Slim

I think it is a great idea and really the only way to have a half-decent chat during e3. Looking forward to the coverage!

This is great news. 1 can bring in more subs 2 keeps things more civil 3 easier on the MODS 4 easier for EZA to filter through chat's comments 5 EZA is not doing sub mode throughout the E3 coverage. It does not feel like a dirty move

I mean, they don't really read chat during the conferences anyway.

I've been a follower since the GT days, finally got the stability to become a 1 dollar a month Patreon this month. I will follow the allies through hell and back but this is very disappointing news. I hope they reconsider the decision based on our reactions. I think this divides the community further.

I saw all 👀

Swordfish00830

I'm happy to hear this news. I don't envy the mods' at all, so whatever we can do to make their E3 a little easier so they can join in on the hype is good with me. I like that we're limiting sub-only chat to just during the conferences (peak times) so that our community members that can't afford to sub can still join in. I'm not much of a chatter, but this choice makes me a lot more confident that when I look at chat during the conferences I'll be looking at love, respect, and good vibes instead of spam, spoilers, and hate. L&R

If you want to talk on twitch without cancelling your patreon, Get an Amazon Video/Prime Trial and subscribe using the free trial to twitch.

Ibrahim Sozer

So should the non subscribers that cannot afford both patreon and twitch should cancel their pledge this month so they can subscribe on twitch , and renew the pledge next month and cancel the subscription?

Eric Estrada

You can still interact with them

Ibrahim Sozer

While this does make me feel a bit sad to be excluded, it's completely understandable.

Andrew Chalmers

As a Day 1 Patreon supporter, it makes me sad that I'll be blocked from interacting with you during one of the biggest events of the year. I work late nights during the week and miss most of your streams. So I'm not a twitch subscriber... I really wish I'd be able to participate live this year after supporting you since day 1. I was just about to up my patreon too. Doesn't sit well with me at all. Oh well, uneasy allies moments will happen I guess :(

Ian Patterson esquire.

Really sucks I won't be able around to watch the live streams taking place on Monday nor the Nintendo stream on Tuesday cause of work and other activities. Nonetheless, I hope everyone else enjoys the streams. E3 is almost here. GET HYPED!

Karl Williams

It's only chat the is going sub only. You can still watch the stream.

klastical

What? so I am a Patreon and won't be able see the conference due to not spent a sub on Twitch? I thought you guys preferred people to donate on Patreon and not on Twitch, but if that's the case I will cancel Patreon and just follow on Twitch. Thanks for the info.

The sub-only will be during the conference itself, when they don't really interact with chat at all. It will still be follower mode during pre and post show to allow the community to talk and discuss.

I wasn't aware that 3-month follower was an option. That would sound like a better idea to me. I don't have all the details, of course.

This is dumb. A lot of people are Patreons but don't have a sub on Twitch for various reasons (like not being able to catch most streams because they don't live in the US), and they are being excluded by stuff like this. Just makes it seem like there's a certain in-crowd who are worth more than other people who support you. Just make it so people can only talk if they've followed you on Twitch for at least a month or something, if you really insist on limiting the chat experience to certain people. That seems more fair than going sub-only.

I don't see why anybody cares really. Chat is going to be moving so fast that nobody is going to notice what you say. You will be unable to have a conversation. You will basically be "screaming into the void" L&R

klastical

Chat on group streams alone is already ridiculous, having sub only for E3 makes perfect sense with those numbers multiplying 100 times over. Just with 500 people you can't even see the quote machine let alone anything anyone else says with much accuracy. So I don't see the big deal keeping chat from being a big spamfest with the 7k+ viewers, if that were me I'd either leave or shut off the chat entirely, makes zero sense to whine about it. They won't even be looking at chat during the time this will be happening anyway, chill out.

ZyloWolfBane

Idk why people don't like this. A sub only chat is almost par for the course of any large twitch streamers. It make everything easier on the streamers and mods, also makes the chat dynamic more positive, besides you can sub for like 5 bucks, don't set it to auto renew so that in July you don't have to worry about it. It's one thing when your chat is like 1000-3000 but once you top over 7000 (like last year) and you know your viewership has grown since then, it gets to be too much for four mods to handle.

Revalow

If you subscrip to amazon prime you can sub to one twitch account for free (or amazon pays for it basically) and besides, sub only chats tend to be more healthy and have less toxicity. It'll also not be set to that for any streams except for the conferences themselves. The rest of the time it'll be normal.

Revalow

Just throwing this out there, wouldn't it good to make a poll to decide between "Sub only" and "3 months follower"?

44stars

This is an interesting decision. Also an unexpected one. I'll be there no matter what, however my gut reaction says that this is unfair.

Doesn't this send the wrong message to people who may want to grow the community. Also, I support on Patreon but don't have a twitch sub bc u have said before u make more money on Patreon per dollar than twitch. I don't personally mind but that may upset some people. Just be careful with stuff like that during the press conference is prob fine like you are doing

Brogan Trull

7K+ actually.

Olf Himself

People need to realize, there was like 3000-4000 in people in chat last E3. This is just to help keep chat enjoyable for people and help the mods out. The Pre and Post shows are only gonna be on follower mode, and only the conferences will be sub only.

Back door shadey deals

I really do not like this at all. You are apperently better of being a Twitch sub then a patreon. Or is this a way to double dip and make patreons also sub on twitch? There is already a divide between the twitch regulars and other fans as stated in that "cup of Jones" episode and this isnt helping. Im really let down by this :(

FreeDoM

Yes.

Easy Allies

You can still chat during Pre and Post shows of every conference since only Follower mode will be on. It's the Conference itself that will be in Sub only mode. That's the plan right now.

I was asked to work on the weekend but refused so I could watch the streams live and join chat, so now what's the benefit of watching live? It's not like I'm Super chatty, but this kind of leaves a bad taste in my mouth

Eric Estrada

Dont mind since, most channels do this on big streams.

Faraz Rizvi

I'd prefer if we could have something more like 3+ month Followers only, speaking as someone who can only afford to do Patreon. But I also understand the reasoning behind this.

James McCoy

You can still watch and chat will be open during pre- and post-show. During the show itself it's usually just emote spam anyway.

Olf Himself

Good thing Twitch Prime is coming tomorrow in my country, Must Be Nice

Alejandro Medina

But the patrons. Twitch mods are for civil discussion. Play how you wanna play but I dislike micro transactions...

Mac

Feeling kinda bummed since I've been a 7-10$ patron since day 1. Subscribing to Twitch just isn't for me. And I don't feel comfortable donating 15$ per month.

the_finnish_ally

I agree with some of the people here saying to try with follower mode only at first and if it goes out of hand put on sub mode.

Olf Himself

I support this.

John Leitner

You can still watch at least.

Olf Himself

This makes total sense really. There's zero discussion in chat during the e3 press conferences anyway bar all caps and emotes so this might actually help improve the conversation. Good luck mods

Tim O'Keeffe

As a sub myself, I disagree with this.

[[[Pre-Order Now For EXCLUSIVE Twitch Interaction]]] As a Patreon subscriber but can't afford to also sub on Twitch, not finding this a cool decision at all. Wasn't there a "Been a Follower For XX Months" mode instead that would be less pay-gatey?

They can set it as One Month or Three Months.

Please, no subscriber notifications on screen during press conferences.

the_finnish_ally

I see the pros and cons of this, but since I was planning to sub anyway I'm not concerned personally.

Steven Perry

Yes, I think EZA did that last year, because I don't remember too many sub notifications being on screen during the E3 2016 streams.

jif52

Pre and post show will be follower mode. Only the conference itself will be sub. It might be a bit more fluid as the day goes but that's the plan right now

Can't they do something like only having chat for those who have been followers for certain number of months? Wouldn't that work better and be more fair to those who can only afford patron? I thought they did something like that on the re7 stream

Eric Estrada

It's very common practice in larger streams where viewer volumes are big. Should you watch any larger stream with a lot of viewers you'll notice that the chat is a unreadable mess. Everyone can of course see and read what is written regardless if you're a subscriber or not.

I'd use the EA conference as a test run and if that gets out of hand you can turn on sub only mode. I'd hate to have people back off because they get in early and they can't talk or have fun during the pre-shows.

Yeah, they can

i'm in a different timezone, so i never make the streams, so i won't make these streams neither; but this feels wrong. This feels very un EZA like, i feel sad about this.

Randy Verschueren

Can non-subcribers see the chat and what is written there? Even thought they can't write anything. I think that would be a good way to show new viewers the Love & Respect nature of this community.

Gustav Strömbom

Isn't that going to cost you a lot of viewers? And what about all the patrons who can't afford to sub? I don't care much I'm just afraid that you won't get all the exposure you deserve.

Mikkel Bak Sørensen

Can we have the notifications for subs off as well during the conferences? They can be on screen but ignored during pre and post shows, but I think while the conference is on, they shouldn't be on screen

Skankman

Remember: if you have an Amazon Prime account you get a free Twitch sub to apply to any channel.

iconmaster

Except for the PC conference. We need chat to lighten up the mood. Imagibe if we had to pay attention to the whole thing!

Good thing my local prime video now grants twitch prime and I just got subscribed this week. Nice

Eric Grynberg

Been wondering how this all worked never saw the option to pay sub on twitch but this sounds like the best move

Ajax

As a patron that isn't a Twitch sub, I'm totally okay with this. Chat can get pretty crazy sometimes, especially when its full of 'senpai pls notice me's. Anyways from last year's E3 streams the allies shouldn't really be paying attention to twitch chat so much because they should be reacting to whats happening in the press conference, so nbd

Nut Kon

Also, I agree with a poster above, If only Twitch had a Patron verifier of some sort, this wouldn't be a bummer. But as far as bummers go, it isn't so bad. I still get to hang with you guys.

We don't deserve the allies. They giveth, and they taketh away. Whatever privileges they grace us with are more than superabundantly sufficient. At least for me.

Kind of related, are sub notifications going to be turned off during the conferences themselves?

I dont really care much for twitch chat, but isn´t this kinda akward for those that are just patreons?

Dang, a little bummed I cant participate (only a patreon ally, cant afford the sub on twtich as well) but I also understand why you would limit it. Still going to be awesome hanging with you all anyway

As someone who has contributed on Patreon from the beginning, but doesn't Sub on Twitch, I completely agree with this. I won't be able to chat during streams but in all honesty this is a good way to not allow the chats to get hectic and disrespectful. They often do when the Twitch chat count goes over 1,000 with you guys. I respect it and will still watch it with you guys. Thanks for letting us know ahead of time so as to not disappoint anyone on the morning of E3.

I'm not a sub, but I get it. Love and respect.

As you should

Pascal

I'm not a twitch sub and I think this is a good idea; specially for the mods. I'll see you in the other side of E3!

César Villa

Just a shame that twitch has no way to identify patrons. Can't afford to patreon & twitch sub at the mo, so only patreoning. :-(

SwinBob72

L&R. As someone who also subs on Twitch, I approve.

I think this makes solid sense as the stream can get crazy at times during the press conferences. Thanks for letting us know up front (though I'm a sub, so it doesn't harm me in any way)!

Any EZA meet ups at E3?
