This month's topic is Fairy Tales for Grown Ups, the assignment film coming into this episode is Borgman, which is available on Amazon and Hulu streaming services. This month we will be adding a "What have you liked recently" discussion to the top of the show, this discussion will be fun and light and not related to the theme, this will be the place for us to gush about movies and shows that we're loving right now!
Examples of Fairy Tales for Grown Ups include: Borgman, Pan's Labyrinth, Suspiria, The City of Lost Children, The Fall, Black Swan, Sleepy Hollow, The Lobster, The Crow, Beasts of the Southern Wild, Slumdog Millionaire, Hanna, The Princess Bride, Labyrinth, Edward Scissorhands, Moonrise Kingdom, Dark Crystal.
While these are many examples of Fairy Tales that are either specifically for, or are also heavily enjoyed by, adults, our discussion will mainly focus on Borgman, The Princess Bride, Pan's Labyrinth, The Lobster, and Edward Scissorhands, Thirst, Only Lovers Left Alive. We will also briefly discuss No Country for Old Men, and the works of Cormac McCarthy.
Borgman, what was the point?

The fallible evil, depictions of villains that seem unkillable but for one scene of weakness. How is Borgman similar/dissimilar to No Country for Old Men?
In fairy tales does there have to be a lesson?

Is horror important in stories like these?
This will play into next month's topic as well, but notice that many fairy tale films seem to employ practical effects.
