Easy Allies Podcast #71 - August 2nd 2017

Comments

Am I correct to say that Kyle did not say fishy this whole podcast?

Novastunna

My comments keep disappearing for some reason, maybe I edited it too much? anyway here it is again: Clarification: the Legend of Heroes Trails series were named with good reasons, Legend of "Heroes" because they tell a bigger tale than most JRPGs, with many NPCs outside the main party and villains who are heroes worthy of tales and legends about them, and many do come into focus in later games. "Trails" is a more human and romanticized word for "chronicles", how else will we see or feel Legends without being there first hand but by what was left behind? Thus "trails". Think about every time you see footprints on a sandy beach, or contrails imprinted on the blue sky, do you ever wonder what the people who made it were thinking or feeling? Where were they from and what they will be going? You were romanticizing "trails" in your own ways. Trails of the Sky was about the Seven supreme treasures left behind by the Goddess of the Sky, how they affect and change whoever they come into contacts with, be it a patriot who wants to save his country, a gentle kingdom caught between the contest of two titans, a secret organization made up of legends in their own rights, or a religion of secret keepers who seek to hides things in which men were not yet ready to know, those treasures leaving behind trails of intrigue and carnage where ever they end up. Trails of Zero was about a new idea, be it a new born country with the new blood of its youths and the ideals of its forward thinkers encroaching by powers from both the old world outside its very borders and the deep darkness within the annals of its own history threatening to make it a still born, or a group of bright eyed and able bodied young men forging ahead into the unknown through courage and ingenuity promising never to let their hearts be tainted by the cynicism of the old, this is their story and thus the "Trails" of "Zero". "Emerald/Azure" is a new color, part of "Zero", outside the seven elementals, but also a new pawn coveted by the old hands, will Emerald/Azure break free of her own blessed prison? You will only need to follow the "Trail" of the "Emerald/Azure" to find where it leads. "Cold Steel", an ancient empire of iron tempered and embolden by the industrial revolution, where will its "trail" of interweaving railroads, smoking factories and war scotched bloodstain lead? A new lease for life for the old king? Or the bits and pieces of its old glory? The "trail" is warming up by its inevitable finale. Great names don't you agree?

BHL

My God, this episode was one of the funniest episodes of all time!!!! I almost fell off the treadmill at the gym and nearly ran a light because I was laughing so hard. Thank you guys for all that you do.

Random

I dunno if someone else has said already but FIFA on Switch does not run on Frostbite, and that's why it won't have The Journey, as they would need to completely remake it

Thomas

I was listening to this on my way to work and the podcast ended right before I entered the front door. I then proceeded to talk to multiple colleagues about this Berenstain bear fiasco, everyone I know, family friends and colleagues are steens. What I am wondering is, how does the narrator on the TV show pronounce it.

Cullen Golden

Correction: Kyle ignored my Tomb Raider correction from last week

I mean Damiani of course

Yeah, that's the reason I'm skipping this game.

Wasn't invested in Metroid Prime 4 before, but now I really hope it comes out in 2018 for that sweet Jones and Ian duet

Nicholas Poer

While I agree with you that Project CARS 2 will likely being a better game, it absolutely does face strong competition from both Forza 7 & GT Sport. Both are established series with a huge following (with their previous entries both vastly outselling Project CARS), and with both of them being more of a sim-light racer, they tend to have more mass appeal. The one thing I will say is that Project CARS 2 getting out ahead of both of them could be a huge help for the game. (Which I hope it is)

BeatenDownBrian

I always found it strange that it seemed they used a delicious pastry to to call out a game they then bashed, while using a filthy dog treat on a game they went on to praise.

Great show as usual but, "... in search of the Heffalumps"? Does that mean EZA has access to Woozles? Did they find some and not care? If they find Heffalumps and Woozles together are they just gonna ignore the Woozles? There's a story here.

Zrail

While wanting me to have played more of the series is an understandable request, I think there is an obvious and valid comparison to social links in Persona and the way you can spend free time in Cold Steel. It's not a comment on the quality of either series, just that they are in some ways functionally similar. - Ben

Easy Allies

I still refuse to acknowledge the game pop tart vs toaster strudel as legitimate. Toaster strudels are far superior to pop tarts. One is cheao, thin, and pre iced with a flat and processed news covered in sprinkles and "filled" with some pathetic red food dye 14 and god knows what. Sure I don't mind throwing one back when I need a quick breakfast, but I sure won't be pleased myself as I consume a s'mores flavored piece of flat cardboard with Babybell wax in the middle. And you can warm them up if you want to, but the temperature is the only thing that will change, and it hardly improves the overall experience. On the other hand, we have a masterfully crafted pastry that is delightful in every sense of the word. This isn't some cheap stale saltine cracker with melted plastic in the middle that you can just shove down your throat when in a hurry, it needs to be toasted like actual food. These puppies boast a hot flakey exterior with a gooey and delicious interior filled with fruity jelly that is mot only warm and delicious, but a substantial amount of flavor, as opposed to the minimal junk inside of a pop tart that hardly provides flavor. These pastries also come with packets of icing so you can decorate your strudel however you please. They don't short you either, as these packets are fuller with more than adequate amounts of icing that can easily cover the entire surface. And if you're a true pro, you'll know that leaving the packers on a corner of the toaster will warm it up enough for it to slide right out when those pastries are cooked to a perfect golden brown.

Man. Hilarious show! As someone from the 'steen' universe I have to say.. it's always been 'steen'. Although somehow it warms my heart that most of EZA was from the 'steen' universe too.

Raven Perez

Correction: The most disappointing downgrade of Gundam Versus is the cut of the series-tradition local coop and local battle mode, not the boost system. P.S. Thanks for addressing my L&R comment :)

This podcast went off the rails at the end and I absolutely loved every minute of it!

Correction: Ben-sighs were previously canonized as Moore-hales many podcasts ago

umryan

If anyone could make Ian's Bloodborne dream it would be the Man at Arms Reforged guys. I started binging their web series a few months back and they properly forge weapons from games, Anime and Movies. They really awesome to watch. Check out: Saw Cleaver from Bloodborne they fully forged and made convertible: <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j-Xp0bZP0Us" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j-Xp0bZP0Us</a> Great Sword of Artorius from Dark Souls 3: <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MPqj6WaTFOE" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MPqj6WaTFOE</a>

Can "I don't think any bit should be called a bit during the actual bit" be a correction?

Michael Paez

My husband and I fully agree with this. Poptarts are sawdust non-food that is sweet when warm but is NOWHERE near as warm, delicious, and comforting as Toaster Strudel.

Liz Castro

Also I almost exclusively listen, not watch, that stare at the end lol

I understand the concept of the Poptart and Toaster Strudel game (somewhat) but it's opposite. Poptarts should not be better.

Derrick DesRoches

OH MAN the Berenstain bears conversation made my life. I've totally recently had this argument with my best friend. Our lives have always been lies!

Well the original Japanese name is Trail of the Sen/闪 , kanji meaning Flash, either referring to the main character's sword reflecting light when drawn or sparks from clashing blades of war, there is also a theory that it also refers to Sen/千, kanji meaning Thousand, referring to the legendary God Knight of a Thousand Blades from the mythology of the founding Emperor. The English title is probably referring to the Empire as a whole, as an industrial power on the path to war, Cold Steel is oddly fitting, seeing as one major player in the story, Giliath Osbourne, has the nickname Iron Blooded Chancellor after the real life Otto von Bismarck, I think it is no coincidence that they change the name in the western versions.

BHL

I usually Enjoy every Podcast but this was just Really Really Jolly and Fun!

Calvin Delaney

Two things about Trails of Cold Steel 3, Sept Release date is for Japan not for US. Also, as far as the namesake goes, I always thought the "Trails of Cold Steel" were referring to Railroad tracks.

Metroid Prime 4 2018. . .. . . . . BELIEVE!

Toaster strudels are still better than those disgusting diabetes rectangles they call pop tarts.

Joey and Cait

It feels good to get these early. The Allies probably don't hear that enough.

iconmaster

This is my favorite crew to see on a podcast, and you all really brought it this week. How is it possible that Jones &amp; Ian have never duetted yet? Concert Year 2 material?

Ray Aldiar

Ray Liotta was not in Yakuza 1

I LOVE TRAILS OF COLD STEEL. The first 2 are Amazing! I cried my eyes out at the end of both. In Trails of Cold steel 2 they have a Background chapter where they tell you the full story of one, and i assume they will have it with 3! The emotions that come with the characters however really need that 120 hours over two games. Unfortunately Trails of Cold Steel 3 only releases in Japan in September Trails of cold steel 2's English version took 2 years to come out so it might be the same time Frame! so it will probably be 2019 as the English Version has not even been Announced. Utterly Upsetting i want it now to be Honest.

Calvin Delaney

My god the end of this podcast was off the rails and amazing. Great line up this week, loved the part about Lawbreakers and the "lazyness" of comparisons in reviews.

Térence Caron

It was funny listening to Ian saying that he liked the pip-boy, just dropped mine and a whole bunch of other collectors edition stuff in to a goodwill bin.

Clarification: Kiwami means "the utmost", "highest" or "extremity".

Olf Himself

Project Cars 2 has stiff competition from GT Sport and Forza Motorsport 7? Come on, Among those 3 if you want a proper realistic racing simulator game, Project Cars 2 topples both of them.

Requested Correction: A.I.M.= Advanced Ideas Mechanics. Name dropped in Iron Man 3, btw.

Larry DuPreez III

you are playing right into his hands.

Obligitory correction: Toaster Strudels are light, fluffy pastries with plenty of moist fruit filling. They even let you choose how much frosting is on them. Pop Tarts are pieces of edible drywall with minimal filling of fruit flavored paste and overly sweet frosting. If that's not confirmation that Bosman is the one from an alternate reality, I don't know what is. Did he not realize you need to actually toast the strudel before you eat it?

Dustin McNab

I was just thinking about this, I like when they joke and laugh about going over the scheduled time, but if it feels too serious I kinda just feel bad a little bit. But they probably have to remind each other if one of them has a lot of work to do, so i get it.

For the first time I've had a negative reaction to something on the podcast. I'm not a big fan of hearing about how short they want the podcast to be. At least not without a specific reason (Shooting something else after, etc). Feels a bit too much like taking content away? However irrational that might be.

Hearing Ben compare the Trails series with Persona pains me, for in my mind the scope and depth of the Trails is leagues above Persona series as it is now, please just play the complete series meaning the Skies trilogy, Zero and Emerald, and the first two chapters of Cold Steel before making your judgement. I love Persona, but it has been trapt by children for years now, why not focus on adults like what Eternal Punishment did before, a more mature Persona game base on social corruption, cults, political intrigue, and the dark side of society like criminal elements or the Yakuza, along with the supernatural elements of Persona would be one of the greatest RPG world there ever was.

BHL

Great job this week, boys. I rate this podcast 2/3rds of a Frame Trap. 2 hours of comedy gold

VGJunky

This weeks podcast is sooooo gooooooood! I love all the Allies but Ian and Ben are just magical (as well as Brandon and Kyle of course).

ZatVunDoot

I was getting ready to post the 3D printed FF7 characters when Brandon mentioned a Mario 64 figure, and then Kyle mentioned it. they're seriously so cool <a href="https://i.kinja-img.com/gawker-media/image/upload/s--mfbc7MVQ--/c_scale,f_auto,fl_progressive,q_80,w_800/18wwv7ubgkm4bjpg.jpg" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">https://i.kinja-img.com/gawker-media/image/upload/s--mfbc7MVQ--/c_scale,f_auto,fl_progressive,q_80,w_800/18wwv7ubgkm4bjpg.jpg</a>

choco factory

Not sure if Jones has seen it, but the Dungeon Master Mode (<a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X2OCwSqVN8c)" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X2OCwSqVN8c)</a> for Divinity Original Sin 2 is the greatest feature in any RPG to date. They even have Wizards of the Coast licensing official D&amp;D content (Maps/Story sets/etc) for the mode.

I loved the name the price game. This is my favorite thing yall have ever done to spice up the podcast. Please don't stop.

MBUN

Well enjoy it while Damiani is still employed in EZA

Yakuza Kiwami is indeed $29.99 (Less if you're buying it with prime or Best Buy's discount). Also CORRECTION Trials of Cold Steel 3 isn't coming out this year in NA, that's japan's date. In fact so far NA doesn't even have an official release announcement.

That damiani signature combined with the lighthearted tone of the post is seriously throwing me off.
