Cup of Jones - 04/20/17

TECHNICAL ADVISORY: About 80% of the way through this episode the camera ran out of card space. Fortunately, the entire episode was captured on our fancy new mixer, so you can listen to the last bit at least.

This episode is a brief editorial, one that's kinda mushy and rambly. It's a concern that's been in my head ever since we did our Concert, one that we should be aware of, even if we don't have the best solution for it at the moment. I thought Easy Allies was a couple of channels, or a series of shows, but it's really our community. I want to think of ways to appreciate and empower our fans (AND PATRONS) before the need arises. Let me know if you discover constructive ways to do that.

Equipment episode soon!

Jones, I'd love to see your Cup of Jones episodes with Audio only and on the early access RSS Feed. I do a lot of driving and would love to add these videos to my queue.

While I can appreciate where you are coming from, I would have to disagree. I believe that punishing everyone for the actions of a handful of people, is almost never the right answer.

BeatenDownBrian

Howdy Jones, Whatever may come of this post, I didn't know where else to express this concern, maybe it'd be a good editorial, maybe it'd go better on the forums...I don't really know, even as I type this out I feel as though I'm doing something wrong. But I have something to get off my chest *Deep breath* Here it goes... I've been here since the beginning of EZA, never once wavered on my decision to support you (Though I did at one point leave the EZA discord for about a month this year, which is part of this topic) but....I'm hitting a point where I as a person don't feel as though I'm welcome, not that the allies are making me feel this way, YOU guys are great, but rather the community. "I" feel like this has been a great place to be, I've even made what I dare I even call FRIENDS here! Yes I know! Me! And it's overall been an inspiring place to be. But I've been feeling this ever increasing shift in vibe between newer members of the community, the twitch mods, etc that have me wondering if the only reason I'm even permitted to speak is because I give money here and haven't otherwise soured any sort of interaction between the allies to warrant any sort of expulsion. I speak of course about the trend of many people just not wanting any dissenting opinions, disagreements, or negativity....anywhere, ever. Bordering on the (At least with one person on discord) that just having something trolly to say once too often (Not me in this case but someone else) should result in them being kicked out of the discord. Now, I personally believe that the majority of us members are adults. Normal rational conversations about ANYTHING between adults will always have an opposing side, and we can all express our feelings without insulting anybody directly or even indirectly, and I feel like that actually is the way our community has been so far. There's many instances where people I regularly disagree with I still treat with respect, we still talk about other things peacefully, we don't attack each other and snipe every comment. Are we ever going to be "Friends"? Probably not, but you're not going to like everyone....right? I don't feel as though I've been personally attacked either so it's not like a big deal at the moment, but I just don't feel like I'm able to express anything here now without someone being bent out of shape because I'm not 100% positive when I discuss something. Which I don't feel is really all that fair, even within the allies there's never one unified 100% positive message about specific games, companies, movies, etc. It's just highly unrealistic to even suggest that something like that should be the communities' motto. That'd be like telling Ian he's no longer allowed to say how much he doesn't like The Last Of Us anymore on air, ever. That to me is NOT an "Ok" attitude. EVERYONE is entitled to their own opinion, even if it's wrong (Heh, sorry Ian had to <3). Love and Respect is Love and Respect, but to me that means even if I can disagree with someone....I'm still able to love and respect them for who they are and not every single word that comes out of their mouth, nor should those words determine whether they deserve Love and Respect, Or attention, recognition, and safety within this community. I don't even have the intent here to incite any sort of inquisition to try and weed out why this is happening, I'm probably going to shrink back into whatever dark corner of my small world and remain silent as I once did, but I felt like this needed to be brought up, to if nothing else make the allies aware of the changes happening here, to make sure that any information isn't just from one source, but instead comes from someone who's actually there.....probably too much, late at night, every night when they should be sleeping (Insomnia sucks). I love all of you guys, and I want to be able to continue enjoying my time here as I had previously. But I just want people to understand where I am coming from (And possibly other people who feel as I do) and be able to act as adults and understand that disagreements happen, and while I'm not intentionally going around to say stuff sucks without a reason, I'm also not going to stifle myself out of fear that someone is going to get upset when I'm not even being offensive. NEVER have I attacked anyone personally, but if me expressing my dislike for something is hurting someone's feelings...I honestly don't have any way to help that. I also don't understand the mindset, many allies dislike games I enjoy, hell...I scoffed quite often when the allies collectively mocked Battleborn when I quite enjoyed it, but I didn't threaten my support to change your opinion or demand that you stop doing that cause you're offending me, it's silly! People are going to dislike things! There's a huge difference between saying "Battleborn sucks" and saying "Anyone who likes Battleborn, sucks" the latter of which is NOT "Ok" and honestly doesn't happen in discord or the forums to my knowledge (Though youtube is another story as I've seen from the comments there), I'd like it if people could keep this in mind going forward, my dislike for something should not diminish your enjoyment of said thing, In fact I'm pretty sure those exact words have been spoken on air (Might've been Ian in fact!). Everything evolves through criticism, literally everything. It inspires new ideas, it challenges our perceptions and pushes us to look at the broader picture. Either way, I hope this finds it's way to you, and if not maybe I will post it elsewhere. But above all I hope that it's "Ok" to be me, just like it's "Ok" for everyone else. And if not...well please let me down gently before I depart. Love And Respect....even in disagreement, ZyloWolfBane

ZyloWolfBane

Hi Jones, Stream suggestion: what do you think of you and three other allies doing a full play through of GTA online heists? Scheduling this will likely be a pain for you guys, but the heists are so much fund with friends and create great action moments. Thanks for reading this! L&R CrazyBiird

My only issue with the idea of having those meet ups and those more private "model" groups is that if any amount of Patreon money is going towards funding those big shows and meetups, it feels pretty damn rough knowing that people who may contribute less or nothing at all get a chance to meet up and hang out with you guys simply because of proximity. I know it's kind of shitty, but honestly I'd rather there be none of those Patreon funded live events at all and more focus went to creating experiences that people can all engage in. It's fine if you have more immediate access to those fans, but no Patreon money should go to events that specifically only cater to a group of people that not everybody can logistically belong to. You specifically say that you don't want to have anybody's involvement defined by where they live, but also don't really seem to imply that there's anything wrong with continuing to have live events that can only be enjoyable for people who live in a certain place. I honestly wasn't so bothered by this topic until watching this video because, and I'm sure this wasn't your intent (maybe,) the message seems to be that "we're sorry it's this way but even though we could stop it from being this way. We won't." Which, don't get me wrong, that's totally valid I guess. I mean it's your entity to do with what you want, I guess I just wish some things were a bit more transparent. In terms of what money is funding what events and in terms of what the actual sentiment and intention of doing events that reach out to non-LA focused Allies is. We're told stuff is coming but it's always just more streams or, worst of all, recordings of the live events that we were already excluded from. Just feels bad, especially when I can't really understand why those things NEED to exist in the first place.

Hi Jones, I have a question regarding the disadvantages of allowing youtube comments: The Community Comments Video for March sparked the sadly familiar "i have to insult you because of reasons and opinions about games"-trope. Every comment section has the potential of becoming vile - but the risk of this happening on youtube is much greater than on patreon. Given this risk and considering that the youtube comment section could be seen as part of the Easy Allies "brand" as it accompanies every video you make maybe you could close the youtube-comments section for some videos. Especially on the community comments video where the patreon-allies get their words immortalized by your voice and video talents but maybe are not steeled for the abuse that some opinions trigger. The feedback especially for the podcasts is a good way to let the audience be heard and only a minority of the audience is on patreon - I can see that. The Forums would the perfect compromise but with youtube/patreon/forums the audience is to fragmented at the moment. Maybe in the future you could make the forums the mandatory way for feedback from the non-patreon audience. Every step away from abusive comments is an attempt worth taking. Sorry for the long an (maybe language-wise uncorrect comment) And thank your entertainment, your attitude, your professionalism and your laidbackness. richard P.S. Shoutout to Bloddworth' remarkable skill of answering youtube comments in an unphased way. Impressive!

Jones, First let me say the amount of work you and the crew put in on a daily basis is amazing. It is well appreciated. With that said, I have noticed a significant spike in the number of emails sent out recently. While I am all for keeping supporters in the loop, personally, it is a little bit aggravating to get 4-9 emails daily from the EZA patreon. I just end up deleting them. Have you thought about crafting a "daily digest" email, where all of the announcements for the day are included in a single email? I would be more willing to read a single email then 6 separate emails from the same pateron. Regardless, thanks for all the hard work you and the crew put in.

Fasr

Dear Brandon, Previously, you talked about collaborations. and frankly, I can't see why you wouldn't collaborate with FunHaus (or something similar). Elyse is there, the laidbackness is there, the opportunity to grow in fans is there and the location is definitely there. Isn't that free PR, combined with some great video content?

Rob de Bruin

Oh, but I think the talking syndrome stream is a great way to do community interaction. Just wanted to mention that.

Brandon it is good that you address this. I do feel pushed away by EZA more and more due to an increasingly stronger focus on fans and community. Not because I don't feel welcome, but quite frankly because I don't care about the community or getting involved with the EZA staff. I'm in the 10$ Tier since launch, but I never watched even a minute of a community comments video or made a comment. I also know from other, less managed forums than Neogaf or this place, that many people feel the same way. What I'm here for is entertainment, insightful videos or discussions and news. I'm still much too busy in life to watch any stream, and whenever something with or from the community comes up I turn off the video at this point. Is it nice that people spend a lot of time to craft you some amazing presents? Yes, but the entertainment value for everyone else is very low. At this point, I have a hard time watching streams, because I watch all of them on youtube, due to time constraints, and half of the stream commentary is adressing the chat which I cannot see. I know that there are people that want that, that want the direct interaction with their idols, but I have to wonder how many they are. The views on your streams and videos compared to the amount of subscribers is insanely low. Now I didn't do extensive science on this, but the next channel that I subscribe to, RedLetterMedia, has 550 thousand subscribers and their videos regularily get more views than that. Most EZA videos don't reach even 10% of the 100 thousand, and at most you get 50%. And that's not talking about the EZA Plays channel. Look, Brandon. I sound super harsh, which is also why I basically never comment here. I know you are a very smart guy, and you are probably very much aware of everything I said, so I won't suggest any course of action, that would be arrogant of me. Just know that people like me still exist, and still pay money, to be entertaint. I don't need aknowledgement that I'm paying money for, I want good content that can stand on it's own. So uh...good luck! I still wish you the best and have high hopes for the future. When you reach 45k, please dear god, don't make it a stream or 1 hour podcast. The new podcasts are ok, because I can listen to them while working or driving, but I really do believe that some members are better served in their talents by short form edited videos. Well, your old Trailer show was talking over looping videos. That would be absolutely enough and fine. I probably sound awful, but just bear with it, I will buy an EZA hoodie soon. L&R Christoph

Hey Brandon, Been seeing a lot of outlets putting out previews of Star Trek Bridge Crew VR. I know Amanda is a huge fan of the series and I’d love to see you/her/another couple allies have a zany time running a star ship in VR. Not sure if this is something you have to be invited to by Ubisoft, or if you can just reach out to inquire with them about getting some time with it. Either way, it would be cool to see you guys play this. If not before, then at least after it releases. Here’s Angry Joe’s preview he went to for example. Give the video a scrub through if you have time. Looks like lots of fun. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Ruckp8-vI0 L & R!

Great video Brandon!

Brandon, thank you for always being so thoughtful and proactive. EZA has built a beautiful community around love and respect; and with you continuing to take steps to make sure everyone has a chance to be involved, this community will continue to flourish. Just wanted to thank you for the wonderful job you continue to do.

This might be early and with E3 around the corner the allies will probably be a bit swamped, but will there be a meet and greet during June or July? I live in Chicago and don't have the opportunity to go to L.A, but while I'm there, I'd love to get the chance to meet all of you! I'll be there for two short months finishing my degree for Columbia College...ugh it would be icing on the cake really. L&R as always :)

Haven't been following what's been going on lately with EZA cause of work but I gotta say that even though I'll probably never meet the EZA crew in real life or attend one of those special meet-and-greet to interact with other fans of EZA, I will continue to support both the Allies and the community. And I might never hear one of my questions be asked in a podcast or a Q&A livestream, but just having one of my comments be presented in a "Community Comments" video was more than enough to let me know that the Allies recognize me. All in all, this was a very informative Cup of Jones.

Karl Williams

The whole tweeting at people bit goes back to the GT days, I think it started with Ian and Ben. I think when the guys mention it now it's more of a nod to the joke, rather than requesting people to actually do it, as I'm sure it could get kinda annoying. Lastly I'm pretty sure Kyle is only trolling when he says he would block those people... watch as I get blocked by him now. :D

BeatenDownBrian

Very well said. I don't envy you these sticky logistics..

Gan Khef

Maybe make this episode public on you tube? L&R

Hello Brandon, There are two topics I would like to bring up. The Best of Easy Allies by SomegameNews was brought up on the podcast, and how the Allies and community enjoy this content, but might be concerned about its legality. I'm also a fan of Best of EZA. Because I don't have enough time to watch most of the livestreams, it's great to have the Best of videos keeping we in the loop with all the newest bits and inside jokes of EZA. In fact it made me want to watch more streams by give a better idea of what they are like, and what I was missing out on. It's like an EZA weekly sampler platter! I know what I'm about to say is much easier said than done, but maybe you could workout a way to host Best of EZA on the main channel. I'd hate to see this quality content hindered, if there was a way for both parties to benefit. Secondly, I'd like to address a particular joke/bit the Allies have made over the last year. I'm talking about an Ally telling the viewers to tweet "X" @random ally. Recently on the podcast Jones, you stated that you enjoyed the momentary confusion on twitter. On the other side, I also remember Bosman saying he blocks community members that do this. Honestly this makes me feel very torn. As a community member it's fun to feel like you're in on an inside Joke, but I also don't want to feel like an annoyance to the Allies on their twitter. Any ideas to how to prove this bit for everyone involved? L&R -Walter C.

Finally had the funds to support the allies, is not much (1 dolar) but i really wanted to show my support for the allies. I understand the issue you are presenting but it is inevitable, many of us live very far away. Keep up with the allies and the shows, i want to thank all of you from the bottom of my heart, the allies positivism has helped me through tough times. Thanks for everything. Love & Respect all the way from Ecuador.

As somebody who lives in Detroit, not only am I left out of your events, but just about EVERYBODY'S events. The only public figures who seem to care about Detroit are Eminem and especially Kid Rock. It seems like event organizers believe people only live near California or New York. I have no animosity towards you guys for not catering to my region, since nobody else does either.

Brian Kargela

Thank you for this one Jones... I can't give much more than a dollar each month to you and the allies (broke college student) which feels bad given how much I enjoy your work. Hearing this episode and how much you truly want to include everyone, and let everyone enjoy what you and the allies have to offer means a lot. So thank you for including people like me. Cheers.

Kinda Funny probably would have benefited from addressing this issue early on. Their community has a huge rift in it and people definitely feel some resentment towards others because they don't feel as important

Ben Metal

Love you too, Jones!

Phew, that was a heavy one, Jones. Thanks for the episode! Now that you put it into words, I guess I feel like this sometimes too. Weird. Oh well. You have a way with words! Keep up the good work!

Parasitepaladin

everyone is welcome in chat! even when no one is streaming there's always some new and regular people hangning out

Hi Brandon. Very interesting cup of Jones. I am from the Netherlands. Between work, family and the big time difference between us, I really never get the chance to visit a live stream so I am almost always watching your stuff on the youtubes. I think I see a effort there from you guys to comment and talk more and I really enjoy that. I have never felt excluded to anything. I am a pretty down to earth kinda guy and I find it very cool that you are doing the meet and greets for the many people that can and want to meet you guys. I also like the time you give to the people sending you these amazing gifts. They took the time and effort (and money) to sent you cool stuff, so a shout out and a moment to look at their gifts is the right thing to do in my opinion. I think you guys are very respectfull and are working very hard for this community and that is greatly apparent and appreciated. L&R Jordy

FreeDoM

Hey Brandon and EZA! Thanks for addressing this topic. I won't be surprised if this will come up more often as your viewers and community increases. Of all the feedback and comments here, I just want to emphasize on the "crossing the line" thing with your audience mentioned by a few people. My concern is especially on live streams. Due to the nature of live streaming, personalities are harder to keep in check. Thankfully I think that the EZA crew are genuinely good people. It's just a fact that some people are more vulnerable and may have higher expectations than most. Keep up the good work! Watching from Philippines,, still have to check out the 2 hour one

Dtzy_Dtzy

I just want to say I noticed you on the twitch chat

Ibrahim Sozer

Thank you for the message Jones I really needed to hear that. Yeah honestly I've been feeling sad that I cant contribute more. I wish I could draw fan art or do something creative to contribute. And I think we all wish to be recognized more by the allies or by chat but its impossible. In the end I'm here for you guys and cause we love your personalities. As much as I would love to be as popular and loved as the mods are, its not needed and not being recognized wont stop me from loving yall. Love and Respect -HonkedOffJohn

John Meza

Thank you for this episode Brandon. Being from a small country in Europe and probably the only Romanian backing you on Patreon I've never had much hope of being able to attend all the cool events that you organise. Maybe someday when some of you may take a trip to Europe for an event. However I have never resented the part of the community that's closer to all of you, that would be silly. I don't enjoy socialising on Twitch where everyone feels like a tight group already, so I've never been a part of chat even though I sub to you there as well. What is a bit off-putting to me sometimes is how the Allies refer to the viewers as "chat" during podcasts or YouTube shows. I know it's out of habit, what with you doing so many livestreams, but from time to time it feels weird hearing that. Anyway, I am supporting you because I enjoy your content and you have helped me through some difficult times, so it's all good. Much L&R.

Liana

Hi Brandon, your concerns are appreciated but I think you shouldn't worry. There are always ways to try getting in touch with you even if it's not locally. I for example have met no one of you so far, but through my Haiku (and some constant nagging ;)) I was able to communicate with some of you and feel involved (shout out to the awesome EZA Court Reporter who is always looking for allies to get involved in community projects, even if it's just about spending some time to write a poem or something like that). I really hope you're not stressing yourself out too much about this. Greetings from Germany, Sebastian K. Erben a.k.a. Haiku Hunter P.S.: I know all of you are pretty busy but did anyone of you get to try out the Skulduggery Pleasant books? I certainly noticed Kyle wasn't excited when you read my note and his name came up :D

Sebastian Erben

Hey Brandon, I really appreciate your concern for this "issue" and unfortunately I am sort of part of it. I myself live in Malta so it's pretty much a given that no events/meetups directly and non-directly related to EZA will happen in Malta. The only chance I can get to ever meet the Allies and the beautiful community is through a European event (preferably in the UK) during something like an RTX London or in an event created by the Allies. However despite that, at least I can feel welcome and a part of the community on YouTube. I often don't get to watch the live streams live due to to different time zones. (Last night's Gundam stream was the perfect time). The Red Dead Revisited time is also a great time for Europeans to watch. It's a huge dream for me to meet you guys, Funhaus and MEGA64. I often have "nightmares" that I end up meeting you guys by accident while you're on holidayin Malta or something and that you ignore me. Lol that's just my over excitement to meet you guys, I'm sure you're awesome! Despite all of this, I never ever felt so welcomed to a new community, a year ago I posted a comment on your first podcast on how I instantly felt attached to you people and the concept of Easy Allies. Much Love and Respect, Steven

Steven Vella

I have been a $1 patron from the very beginning, and haven't regretted that decision at all. You deserve that, and if it ever happens that I could donate more, I'll do that in a heartbeat.

Hey Brandon, it's nice to hear you're worried. I myself am a huge fan and proud Patreon since the first day. I'm from Germany and would like to meet you all personally. But unfortunately this is very unlikely. Maybe you are again at the Gamescom in Cologne? I hope you make your thing as far as before and I'm looking forward to the next videos. Love and respect - Mark (Gekko)

L&R mr. Jones. I live in Costa Rica, patreon supported for several months. I dont feel left out of anything you do. I just need more Don to justify increasing my pleadge. regards!

Mugen Himura

Hi Brandon, as someone who lives in the UK I have had to resign to myself that I may never be able to meet you guys in person. I dearly want to but it may never happen and that is just simply reality. I can't be remorseful of those who can meet with you because I am simply in another continent entirely. And that isn't on you or the rest of the allies. I want you to be able to meet with the community that is close to you despite the fact that I can't. I am definitely envious, but the harsh reality is is that you can't be everywhere despite how much I personally want you to be. As someone who was a former podcast producer it was a pleasure having my name read out by you and I'm proud of that, I valued that, and frankly that is as much I want at this stage. It's midnight right now, I'm very bad at trying to word how I feel but I want you to know that from me please don't feel guilty, especially since you're doing as much as you can. Yeah. Love and Respect - Michael Clegg

I think you have the wrong idea about community project 2, but whatever. Pretty sure nobody got together to write and illustrate and publish a book just so we could hold Brandon hostage reading our names live on stream. :)

Tokyo Slim

Although I personally feel like the community is divided, or you have favourites (like Kinda Funny) I appreciate that you acknowledge it for the people that do feel that way, L&R.

Alex

Just FYI, there's a few other Seattle local allies and we just had a mini meetup. I may set up some kind of regional account to message everyone with in the future, but for now you can add me on Twitter @Tokyo2Slim

Tokyo Slim

Brandon, you're a beautiful human being! And the fact that you take time to record messages like this speak volumes about your character, and the content/community you try to maintain. I often feel like anything I say is just a shout out of love and respect into the void of EZA fans, but that doesn't make me feel unappreciated or invalid. You guys are only human, and I can barely remember a name 5 minutes after meeting a person. My role to support the content I enjoy is all the fulfillment I need, and hopefully some day Easy Allies can become more accessible for fans to meet. But for now, watching you guys grow and flourish with love, success, and support is a beautiful thing to witness. ♡ (Sorry for the long comment)

Tiana Salazar

Great episode! I can't even begin to describe how much this community means to me! (Yes I was on community project 2) I feel that we are quite inclusive, even in the twitch chat I feel like everyone is trying their best to make sure that people get "attended to". Some allies are better than others to make people included. I hope that we as a comunity always can be welcoming and make every single one feel appreciated, but it is hard to meet everyones expectations and hopes. I think all we can do is to keep open minds and keep feeding that L&R that we talk so much about! As a Swede living in UK I can say that at least I feel like a huge part of this group! :)

Sebastian Hall

this. it's really only an issue when it affects the content.

Michal Dudic

I'm sad for the allies that feel under appreciated :( The content that EZA produce is thanks enough for me. If an ally can get to California and catch up with any of the EZA crew, I'd be so happy for them, and I wouldn't feel left out. But I hope the allies that do feel left out, see this video and feel better. You delt with the issue really well Jones, thanks for caring :) Love & Respect from Australia.

Mumble Mumbleton

I've been watching you since the old GT days and while I'll probably never meet you in person, your sense of warmth seems to only grow by the day. I still think you're one the nicest guys ever and it's always nice to see you care about the community. Keep being yourself Brandon, and thanks for everything. Fan for life. L&R

NeO JD

I've got four kids and am half a country away from California. I don't expect to see any of you guys in person or be known like those patrons you've met more than once, and I'm completely cool with it. Just keep doing what you're doing and I'm happy. (Though if you really want to make it up to me, make Kyle do a regular show of his own.)

iconmaster

Thank you for the heartfelt message. You guys are now part of my weekly entretainment. L&R from Colombia.

Hi Brandon, thanks for this! I don't mind that I can't physically be there for the events, but what does bother me a bit is that I can't participate in the live streams and the chat very much as a Finn who needs some sleep, so that whenever I do occasionally make it into a live stream, there's this sort of an inner circle. I guess it's only natural for the people who spend all their time there to develop such a bond, but it's sometimes tough to get noticed and to get a foot in. Luckily, there is the EZA forum which is a great place, and I've made that my EZA "home" with hundreds of posts. But then again, UNfortunately, there's no contact to you guys. Only Blood really, and even he's kind of in a moderator mode only. So what I'm saying is that the people who can participate in the streams kind of have it "better" than us in the forum writing a lot. But what can you do, really? The Earth's a big place with its time zones and I don't expect you to offer too many hours for the forums as well after everything else is done. I'd just hope that there were more possibilities for a more direct interaction with you nine. At least I got to be part of the EZA belt project. :) -Sentinel Beach

Ville Ranto

Definitely not a QQ post as I think their are bigger things to get beat up over but my 2 cents. The only thought that comes across the whole topic is that we hear "we got a ton going on so we did not get as much done as we wanted" but than EZA spends a chunk of what is perceived "community donated" time for a live show and meet and greets that affect only a small fraction of the community. And for remote supporters like myself it can feel like I'm paying for someone else's party. So the question is how do you balance the goals of being a content provider, but also establish a tight community (as well as YOLO a little bit)? I know this is up to each of EZA's crew comforts but how cool would it be to have a Puyo puyo Tetris battle with Kyle or play some FFXIV with Damiani as a celebration raffle or some a code giveaway for Towerfall and have an editor host the match? I think those things could go a long way in being more "fair" but also celebrating what EZA is about. However, the only reason this impression is there is because of the transparency of the EZA crew and their honesty and openness of what they are doing and the details that are included. I'd rather have that then not have any insight of the inner workings of what is the grand experiment of EZA. L&R

Zugdar

Brandon, you're a wonderful guy. The simple fact that you thought about addressing this, already means a lot. I don't want any special recognition, I've decided to support you with 1$ dollar (and 5$ once in a while) because I wanted to help you guys, even if a little. However it's good that you're actively thinking about this issue and about every supporter you have. I've never had any problems with the mods on Twitch, the gifts didn't bother me until recently, the community is usually great, aside from some people who are, IMO, overprotective and shoot down any kind of criticism. Aside from your handling of the anniversary, that you already addressed in a perfect way, which makes think you understood perfectly the issue, what I honestly didn't like was the last "community project": that's the time it struck me that people are doing it just because they wanted to feel special. I mean, they etched their names on the box and asked you to read multiple lists of names, they basically asked to "dance like monkeys for them" because they sent you a gift, by making you follow precise instructions. The gift itself, I'm sure, was heartfelt and it was also very nice, but you could see it was from a bunch of people wanting to feel good about themselves and how generous and cool they were. I wish people sending gifts would cool down a bit, maybe sending them anonimously, if they really only care about giving something to you and not about getting recognition for what they do. Also calling them "community projects" when clearly only a small handful of people was involved is a little arrogant if you ask me. About Twitch mods, have you ever thought about doing a rotation between members of the community? While I wouldn't be interested, I'm sure many would like to be mods for a few months. Just make it so every 3-6 months the Twitch mods rotate and new guys get a little spotlight instead of the same people. One last thing, and the only thing I really don't agree with you on, is that you said how people you've known in person and know for a while are more likely to give you real criticism, without mincing words. That's something not always true IMO: someone who knows you personally may be much less prone to tell you their honest opinion, because they fear of losing your "friendship", while a stranger may be way more blunt if s/he wants.

This is appreciated Brandon, Thank you! We love you too!!!

Chris Martinez

I have been a Patreon since day 1 at the $25 tier and I watch every video put out other than a lot of the twitch streams. I couldn't care less if my name is still an unknown by the allies but of course that is just me. I have my own life to deal with and that's enough to keep me busy and not worry about something like if I'm being recognized by anyone other than the people closest to me.

Joey and Cait

You're such a good guy Jones! In terms of interacting with the fans that aren't around all the time and can't meet up/watch streams, i've seen a few comments on here suggesting that you and the other guys frequent the forums more often. I'm not a forum user myself and I know you guys don't have a ton of time, but it's a good place where there's a concentration of fans both old and new, from near and far. As far as the other points go, the whole point of having mods is that they're a select group of people that you know and trust to enforce your rules. That is their purpose and you don't need to apologise for that, although it's a good point that a lot of mods have been treated pretty horribly now and then, which sucks. But people need to understand that they aren't being targeted for questioning a mod, or questioning a "known name", they're being timed out etc. because they broke the rules. Finally, it's natural that you guys are going to know some people better than others. Apart from mods (which, as I say is kind of the point of mods), there are just some people that have been around longer, or people that have the money and time to send huge gifts. That is not the fault of you guys, and it isn't something to apologise for. As you say, it's not logistically possible for you to know everyone. But you greet every new subscriber you get, I don't feel like you prioritise certain comments on Twitch over others, and new people will soon have been around a bit and you'll recognise them more often. But I get your sentiment, and like I say maybe the forums are the way to go for interacting with a wider spread of people? Okay well sorry for this ramble, any way I love you, bye! Heistboots

Hallo again, Kudos for addressing the issue. But, these political problems, i.e. donor bias; lobbying; favouritism, etc., are always going to be a part of any Patreon community without anonymity. The best you can do as a group is to actively choose an unfamiliar name from time to time. Keep a spreadsheet if you really want a time sink. From the other perspective, I think some people should cool their jets in regards to presents. Increasingly cringey (I skip that part of group streams now). You guys get better gifts from strangers than I exchange with family (It's a working-class Irish thing, not a miserly thing, I swear ^_^). Any-who, L & R to everyone.

I just wanted to quickly chime in from Germany and say that, yes, i do feel included ;) Of course, the distance prevents me from dropping by and that's sad, but to put it in a different perspective: When GT ended, I was way, waaayyy more heartbroken then I thought I would or should be; but yet I was. So when EZA started, I was excited, just to have that back. But it's more then that, it's not just having you guys back, but rather having SO MUCH more of you. Not only do I highly value your content, the amount I'm getting is more then I'd ever asked for. I'm working from home, and especially your ever-growing podcasts are just a great way to yet feel like I'm in the best company I could be. Now, all that being said – of course this is not meant to de-value the criticism of anybody who *does* feel left out in any way or form. This is certainly not meant as a way of saying "I got no problem, so why do you?!" All I want to express is how happy I am for what I get :) Cheers and have a great weekend, Thomas

Hi Jones and EZA, Like a lot of people I was a huge fan of GT and have been a patreon since almost day one of EZA before upping my pledge around the one year mark. I live in England and I am currently a final year university student so money (or the lack of) is a huge issue for me still. I upped my pledge because I've increasingly found myself watching more of your content as time has past to a point now where I try to find time to watch and catch up with every show/podcast/stream I can as I enjoy the content and your personalities so much! Being across the pond (so to speak) in Europe it is difficult for me to catch your streams live due to time zone differences so I can't typically be involved in the twitch stream chats and group streams. This isn't a problem to me personally but i can empathise that for some allies in Europe and other parts of the world that they may feel left out at times so I am grateful for the clarification and reassurance given in this Cup of Jones for those that may have wanted it. One day I hope I could attend a meet and greet etc or participate in a community project but if not, I will still feel valued as a member of this amazing community and I hope you can continue making content for years to come! Here's to year 2! L&R Marc

Thanks Jones, even with little to none interaction with you guys due to the amount of people trying or to living in Europe... EZA really does feel like home.

Amazing "Cup of Jones" as always. You are an awesome individual, Brandon. An extraordinary group like the Allies deserves the amazing community that comes with it. Thank you for your immense amount of care. You can be sure that there is a great amount of appreciation from the EZA community, myself included. Thank you for being such a fantastic individual. Love and Respect, Steven P.S. I'm the dude that enjoys buying you a beer at your meetups. Cheers!

Hi Jones, I very much enjoyed your hones talk about this topic. I am a Patreon of EZA since the very first minute and followed you guys before on GT. You also have my Amazon Prime Sub for Twitch although I barely have the time to watch a stream. Living far away myself (Germany) I know that certain things you guys do will always be something that I cannot participate to or only with a lot of planning ahead. Personally I don’t have a problem with the fact that live events or meet and greets are things that I cannot easily attend to. But what can EZA do? Well I think the best way forward would be events tailored to a particular group but including all Patreons/Fans of EZA. Why not make an EZA event (Live Stream) focusing on comments/questions from people living in Europe or Asia etc. In the long run I hope that some of you will visit events like Paris Game Week, Gamescom, TGS etc. so people get a slightly easier was to meet you. The other topic you brought up was giving certain community members certain perks and benefits (e.g. being a Mod). EZA needs to have trusted people to moderate Twitch streams or the community forum and the number of people you need for this is very limited. There will always be people that feel mistreated because of things they said in a way and there are for sure situations in which a moderator might have overreacted or did something they should have. But the only thing you can do (and you did in your Video) is to be transparent and to offer a way talk about this. L&R Daniel

Jones; you are an amazing human being ! i love you man ! I do believe that some lines gets crossed in a bad way, specially with the younger fans, i do believe sometimes you guys should create a little bit more distance, not because of jealousy, but more because you create expectations that are not realistic for fans. i must say, next to some financial issues, i did lower my pledge because i don't really feel included in the community because i live in Europe. But i's amazing that you at least try to adres this issue. This is the best community ever !

Randy Verschueren

Hello Brandon, this episode reminded me of an issue that I was concerned about. I don't remember how long ago it was, but it was an issue with Twitch moderation and cyber bullying. I can't say that the person is right, or that the unfortunate event actually happened, but I just want to make it aware again. The person has had approached you and other EZA about it, but, from what was told to me, favouritism played a part in drowning out the message. I don't know if that person cares anymore, but I think the person is still an EZA fan, albeit avoiding Twitch. I just hope an issue like this doesn't come up for any fan. For myself, if you remember, I use to have a tracker on the forum for bets, but I got a bit busy, so busy that I can't commit time to listen to all the EZA content. I don't feel entitled to be mentioned for helping do things for the community or help fund EZA, so I hope it is the same for all EZA fans. I agree that we shouldn't feel down because we don't receive direct gratitude, but some people in this world don't share my opinion. I hope that doesn't bother everyone at EZA. Also, I'm hoping this thing I'm working on can be something special for EZA. It's going to be a while before it's ready, but when it is, I'll approach you and see what you think. L&R, Whoaness

I live in Sweden so I have a hard time both getting to any live event and actually catching the stream. I didn't become a patreon to "pay for watching", though but to support the existence of this community, to help ensure that the content is available for others as well. If one of the Allies is a night owl, maybe you could do a Europe stream sometime? I'd also be happy to participate in meet & greets with other members here locally! I think a lot of people go to meetups not to specifically meet "the nine" but to just interact with the community.

Axel Selhammar

This! This "CoJ" is why EA is great! This is why I love you guys. I would write more and more sophisticated but it's 7:44 am here, I'm working for two hours and am still tired as fuck. Just keep it up, announce EA Travels to different countries in a timely manner and try to get some collaboration video with Shane and Marcus. And come to gamescom. Now, back to work. ;)

Tim Albers

"It might even end up as new Patreon tiers if that isn't too exclusive." I feel like that'd kinda defeat the point, yeah...

I, for one, do not feel neglected. I trust your judgement. Keep up the good work. L&R

So I was sorted into Slytherin on Pottermore and I have a rat patronus. Possibly the worst combination haha but I have grown to accept it. You're really genuine and I don't give as much as I'd like but my favorite patreon perk is cup of jones for that reason. I definitely skew to the older side of the audience (I think, soon to be 30) and so I am not on twitch a lot. Sometimes when I am I feel out of the loop but it doesn't bother me. I am also not a huge meet and greet person myself. I'd like to see a show in the future if I could but as I've gotten older and busier my FOMO is definitely less. As far as input I'm not too concerned about you guys knowing me or not but I like the polls and ways to have a say on the content. That's what I am here for mostly and maybe more ways to pick topics for podcasts or a spoiler mode would be good. The L&R post numbers are getting really high, so that might help in people feeling like they are connected or have a say.

Bdun912

I support your patreon mainly because I really enjoy the podcast. If you ever come to Seattle I'd come say hello though :)

Actually, thinking about it now, videos like this from more of the Allies every so often could be a great thing. Why? Because you aren't talking to the other Allies; you're talking to all of US. It's a one-on-one that most people don't get an opportunity to get with you guys. It could be about just whatever, but some solo stuff like this every once in awhile can be a great thing.

Josh Read

You're such a good guy, man. I honestly have a lot of respect for you. The fact you care so much about this issue says it all. This is a tough issue. I don't know the best way to make everyone feel more inclusive, but I hope some of the people in this great community will/have come up with good suggestions.

Josh Read

One thing the Allies could do to make "the rest of us" feel more included is participate in the forums more. Right now, only Bloodworth posts there on a regular basis. IMO, it's a much cleaner, more organized community space for EZA than Twitch or Twitter.

TurboChickenMan

L&R

Completely agree. L&R.

Brad Russell [Toukz]

I'll be honest, I'm sometimes afraid to be too spicy or contrarian with my posts in the forums or Twitch chat because the demand for L&R has gotten to a point where I feel I have to sugar coat everything or be overly positive about every subject. L&R is a big part of Easy Allies' DNA and it does make this community one of the most unique and enjoyable on the internet, but I don't want to see the demand for L&R get to such a point that it shuts down conversation and debate, which it seems to be heading in that direction. And to the people that feel that they are being constrained on the Twitch chat or in the forums, I invite you to the Discord server (discord.gg/uhRejEN) that place has some very spicy conversations but no one is disrespectful or outright mean and you won't be timed out or banned because you cuss or have a negative view of something. And please don't take this as a suggestion that you should leave those other platforms and only join the Discord, or that those platforms and their moderators are somehow inferior. I just want to get across that if you are looking for a place that is more relaxed and loose with the rules and moderating give the Discord a try. Discord could also be a wonderful place of outreach for the EZA crew, I know you guys are already swamped with work but down the road a possible patreon goal could entail some sort of live voice chat with Patrons on Discord, something like Talking Syndrome but with voice chat.

Ehie Yovach

Awesome topic choice jones, though I will say while I've felt left out more than once it's mostly of my own accord due to work/sleeping schedule, lack of money, and staggering social anxiety. It would never diminish my appreciation of EZA or discourage me from continuing to support you guys as I have, People will fall through the cracks when a community gets this large and I totally understand, y'all are wonderful guys and very busy. Just know that in my dark, salty, anti-social corner of the internet I'll still be here cheering you guys on and hopefully I'll get over some of my problems to eventually attend a social event since you're only ever an hour away. It means a LOT that you felt this responsibility to try and help everyone feel special though, nearly got me teary. I hope everyone else who's further away is able to feel the love as well! L&R

ZyloWolfBane

I personally feel quite ok with what it appears to be concerning you. I am a Spaniard that lives in Madrid. Obviously I cannot afford every year to fly to California, I would love to meet you guys, but hey, there are natural constraints. It is perfectly normal that certain favoritisms can be perceived to exist. You have made your point and I honestly couldn't care less if you guys have a better relationship with someone that goes to every single event you do. Its only natural. Don't fret over it Jonesy. Though it certainly is good for you to address it in order to calm some minds. L&R from Madrid, Spain

LiquidEnder

Happy to be in this community whether you come out to Seattle or not! Though when you do I'll try to come say hi :) When I support you guys I know you aren't local so there is definitely no resentment for those that are local. Maybe one suggestion may be to read fan mail or community comments on group streams whether they contain a gift or not? I'm sure there are many people that would love to get shoutouts that maybe can't afford to send actual stuff. Not sure if you get a lot of that kind of mail but hey it's a thought. L&R!

It's not your fault that people can't get to you when you're so open to interaction already. It's ok to know some members better than others. You're too nice :P Love and Respect from Portugal!

Maybe gaming with the community every now and then could also be a good way to get to know a few more people a bit better. It's a unique opportunity of the medium you're covering and with so many games having multiplayer components it could surely be done. If a few Allies could spend an hour or two playing with community members every (other) week you surely would make a lot of people happy. It could be streamed of course, so it'd produce content, too. It might even end up as new Patreon tiers if that isn't too exclusive.

Andreas Köther

As someone who by chance does live and work in LA, I have been easy of this. It was amazing spending time with you at Disneyland and meeting all of the allies. I will continue to go to events that you hold, but I will always love out of the way to let someone who is getting to meet you for the first time to have a chance. The occasion has not arisen, but if I could just help someone go up and say hi to an ally if they are shy or anxious, I would. You are all wonderful human beings and I hope that anyone who wants to meet you guys gets a chance to.

You're amazing Mr. Jones.

ZatVunDoot

You're all heart Brandon, and that's why we love you.

Brad Russell [Toukz]

Great editorial, I've thought about this topic as well recently and it's good that you're aware of it and care. I think formats like podcast questions and especially the Q&A are a good step in the right direction to help with that problem at least a little bit. I got a question in on L&R once and regularly participate in the Q&A and that's always satisfying. It blew my mind when Brandon even remembered how to pronounce my name a bit better recently on the Q&A from when he asked for corrections for the podcast producer credits about a year ago. That's an almost scarily impressive memory and it shows how much he cares.

Andreas Köther

You should check out the forums if you have not already, it's full of cool people. :)

BeatenDownBrian

Huh, this is an interesting topic. Honestly I didn't even realise this was an issue, but granted I’m not around on Twitch much these days. I definitely saw people on Twitter & on here bummed out that they could not go, but it felt like people just had a feeling of missing out more than anything. Personally I could not travel to the 1 year concert, and it’s likely I may never make it to an anniversary, as it falls during my busiest time of the year in work, but far from feeling left out, I felt like you guys did everything you could for people that could not come. You recorded the concert (and Ian worked to get it edited and on Youtube, like he was the Flash or something), you ran a repeat of your very first stream on Twitch that day, and then had the anniversary stream on top of all that. I think it’s admirable that you don’t want anyone to ever feel left out, or to not feel like part of the community, but I don’t want you to be too hard on yourself either. I don’t support you guys because I want my name mentioned during a stream or a show, or because I want you guys to be my friends, that would be an unreasonable expectation on my part (Don’t get me wrong I’d have a beer with you anytime Jones). I support you guys because I like the work that you do, and from the bits I know about you, I like you all as people to boot, and for what it’s worth I think you guys go above and beyond for this community as it is.

BeatenDownBrian

I just hope you guys do well and that one day you can tour! We could have a huge party at Pax Aus and you guys can have all the tim tam slams you can handle!

Leah

With any sort of community, there are always going to be folks who are "more involved" than others. It's just kinda what happens with this sort of thing. I'm not going to say that it doesn't bother me because, well, I'm human. Feeling left out is kinda a natural thing to feel. However, even though I feel those things every now and then, that doesn't stop me from loving EZA. I'm proud to be a part of this community in whatever way I can. :) Thanks so much for your honesty, Brandon! I'll definitely try to make an East Coast meetup, if/when that happens. Love and Respect

Great post on this, our blessed 420. Brandon; real talk - just keep being you, don't keep any secrets from chad, and always allow yourself to grow. Lastly, most importantly, more Final Fantasy. ezaJolly

Dalink28

Jones, we love all that you and the allies do. I currently watch most shows and catch the streams of the games I’m interested in when I have the time and enjoy every minute of it. I am a proud patron of Easy Allies! I have not seen a community anywhere that takes the creator’s motto, in this case obviously “Love and Respect,” to heart with everything they do. Whether it’s the plethora of gifts that are sent, the very thoughtful questions posed to the panel during the podcast, or even just the general hype in twitch chat, the people that make up this community are beyond amazing. I would love to be more involved with the community, however I’m not sure where to start. I am aware of the forums on the Easy Allies site, but haven’t dug too deep into that yet. I would also love to assist in any way I can to future community projects! If one of you wonderful allies that make up this great community could point me in the right direction it would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance, L&R!

That's awesome. I feel like I have been involved with you guys (I am TheCatManDude & BobHopesFart), but when I joined Patron I am going by me, because I love you guys. Thanks for the kind words Brandon.

Daniel Ray

Happy 420 Brandon, I think communication is key for addressing these issues so thank you for taking the time to say this.

Blade Kasper

You're a good dude Brandon

This is a very interesting episode and while I have never felt left out, I can see how some people could. I mean there are some names that I see repeatedly on twitch and they are a definite presence but I've never been made to feel like I don't belong. In fact there are times when I say 'Hi' and people say hello back. That's a nice feeling. BTW My favorite thing to do on twitch while watching an EZA stream is to get one of the Allies to laugh or a chuckle. I've gotten Brandon, Ian and Blood before and Huber but my major goal is to get a one Kyle Bosman to crack up, I mean full on signature laugh. BTW I'm TheJastrom on Twitch.

Jason Walstrom

Hi Brandon, great editorial. You mentioned wanting ideas, I may have one. I'm honestly not sure if it is within the budget of the Allies patreon, but perhaps you could look into selecting a single random patron once a year to personally fly out to meet you guys. Have them join a group stream, the podcasts as a guest etc. I'm sure many of us would get a kick out of living vicariously through this lucky person, who would otherwise not be able to do so. -L&R Brandon (thumblister)

Brandon Patton

I have more or less been a silent member of the EZA community since it's creation, only piping up in chat during live streams or the occasional comment on youtube and Patreon. I remember watching you guys religiously while you were at Gametrailers, and the memory of the heartfelt farewell you and the other Allies gave during the last live stream, while you played GTA and reminisced, will be with me forever. I even remember lurking in the Twitch chat for days after Gametrailers was no more because the community there was so great and jolly, and we all missed you guys. What I mean to say is that regardless of how involved, or not involved, I may be in the community events and get together's, I will never stop watching you guys. I greatly believe that EZA, both the Allies and the community, are a positive force for change in the gaming community at large, and as such they deserve all the respect I am glad to give. -Azeraphin, the Ninja Ally

Hi Brandon. Thanks for saying everything that you did – I appreciated hearing that you're actively thinking about the community, including patrons of all tiers and from all over the world. This is something I've been thinking about a lot myself over the past few weeks since the 1-Year Anniversary. I've been a patron since the very start, and yet I feel a bit disconnected from the rest of the EZA community (or at least what I've seen of the community, especially from its most vocal and visible members). I think part of that is just the person I am – I watch videos more than I tune into streams, and I tend to shy away from comment sections and chat windows. That said, the stuff I've seen these past few weeks – like footage of the March meet-up, the spectacular gifts that get opened on group nights, and heartfelt Cup of Joneses like this one – has definitely made me want to get more active and involved in the EZA community! I'll definitely have to catch a group stream live at some point, but, uh, if anyone has advice on getting involved beyond that, I'd definitely appreciate it! :)

Thank you so much for this Brandon, really. as somebody who is a) on the other side of the country and b) at university it is definitely tough to feel as connected to y'all as others do. I don't feel spurned or anything of the sort, it's just what it is. Having the affirmation from you that it doesn't matter how involved we are, just that we are involved is really great. I don't have the time or money to give y'all more than I do (although i did jump up to the movie podcast tier because i <3 y'all) it means a lot and y'all do good work. I dunno where I'm going so I'll just cull this comment here. Thank you, Love and Respect!

Matthew Leonard

Love Cornwall! I had family in Perranporth. Unfortunately not anymore though! :(

Loved this episode. It really does a good job of giving the whole community a warm hug. I personally have loved getting to know not only the EZA crew, but also the community. It's full of so many delightful people and we should do our best each day to share the happiness and kindness we all receive from you with them.

damn Jones, you're so good with the community. P.S: you can dig me anyyyyytimes.

havik

I absolutely understand why this may be a concern for some. It can sometimes feel like you get left out of something special. I would love to come to a meet up or the next concert, but unfortunately I am not in a place financially where that's possible. But with that being said, something as small as getting a like or response from Bosman and Ben on Twitter, or getting my question answered on a stream, that has made me feel far more connected to you guys than I've ever felt before. I've been a big fan of you all since the GT days, but over the past year, I feel like I'm actually part of something now, and I thank you for that. Tomorrow will be the one month mark since I became a patron, as I finally pulled the trigger during the 12 hour Anniversary live stream, and it has been so incredibly worth every penny. Of course, I wouldn't be opposed to you all coming to Colorado for an event, but I know that may not be in the cards. So I just want to say, thank you Allies, thank you Mods, and thank you community. You have made this an incredibly welcoming and beautiful thing to be a part of.

Kate Bishop

I'll admit that I wish I could have that same level of involvement/inclusion as those that everyone local has the opportunity to have, but I am also realistic in that I see how busy everyone is just meeting the deadlines of the content production, let alone setting aside the time to meet 6000+ people directly to make them feel included. You guys are only human (awesome humans!) and nobody could ever put any sort of reasonable blame on you guys for something like this IMO. Yall are pouring your entire selves into this community and the content you entertain us with, and that is why I am a patron (well, that and I wanna play D&D with Ben lol).

Will Schmuck

This is an interesting subject, so many artists and creators have trouble managing their fans and I think it's normal, you can't please everybody. Meeting the 6000 patrons would be impossible and remembering everyone single one of them even more impossible. For what I've seen. you are all doing a good job for managing this and try to please everyone. I would like to also say that I think more patrons hare a giving the money for the content more than to be in fan club or to be accepted in a group, and at the end this is what EZA is, a groupe of people making content. For me as long as the content is good and youtube video are there I'll be happy to pay even though I am 99.9% sure I will never meet or talk with one of you. I guess it's a human nature to feel acceptable somewhere, to feel part of the group and I can understand when in stream it can get annoying when there are "favorites", but this is life. Of course the ones the put more effort into being in the spotlight, will have more chance to be in the spotlight. Some of us are expert to be groupies! All in all, keep going on EZA, do what you do best and even though I'm not personally involved in the community, you are still one of the creator content who try to get as much as possible to be in contact with us and that is awesome. I only hope it won't turn out in a fans war or something, gotta keep that L&R going on!

Hey Mr. Jones! This probably is my favorite editorial you've done to date and supplies me with a question for the feedback Cup of Jones, but I would like, if you are willing to read, a perspective to your topic: Being someone who doesn't socialize much and hence not well, I can understand having access to any Ally would be an appealing concept as each of you are great, unique, charismatic individuals. Sure, it would be swell to strike up a friendship with any and all of you but for me, I'm completely ok with how things are on the subject of involvement. There are so many of us fans, that to expect to have equal standing with everyone, while ideal, just is not feasible, as you have astutely pointed out. I interact a little bit with others on the forums, and have the pleasure of following (and being followed by) fellow Easy Allies fans, yet I, in no way, expect to have those friendships with yourselves, or other highly prominent members that have a lot of screen recognition. Please don't misconstrue! It would be AWESOME if that were the case, but I like to think that, by being myself and embracing, and more importantly practicing, the core tenant of Easy Allies, Love and Respect (tm), friendships will come naturally from wherever and from whomever. So, it doesn't bother me (and again, I'm fully aware I can only speak for myself) if there are fans who are more "hardcore" and as a result catch any of your attentions and become memorable, because I recognize that I'm not known and therefore have no delusions of "What I say should matter, myeh!" To your example of the livestream: Being a member of the 95%, all I really hoped for was a recording of the event. When you as a group confirmed this, I was set. So long as there was some way we who can't be in person could still enjoy the event, in some way, I was content. But above ALL else, the one point you touched on that ABSOLUTELY rings true with me, is being a part of a group present. I did not find out about your belt until you opened it on stream. Personally, it wasn't the best feeling in the world to realize, "Hey, I would've like to give $X to help bring that together! Dang it..." Which is why I contributed to the second gift, only in a small financial sense, and even then I didn't find out about it until the art and poems were made and written well after the fact. I consider myself extremely lucky to catch it when I did, because this community is filled with so many creative, talented, and all-around great people, I just wanted to be a part of it. I haven't given a present, despite wanting to, and before you begin to say out loud for the countless time that it isn't necessary, I know, but tying into your point, when people appreciate what you do, and gladly support you in any they can, there are those who, just by the nature of things, can do so more than others, and it IS necessary for some to show their appreciation in the only way they know how. And for your request, I would be more than overjoyed to have as many people involved, and as much involved, with supporting you all, but again: I'm not really known, so I don't believe I have... reach? resonance?.... You made mention of it in not the last episode, but a recent one, where you noticed how I ask a question every time. By you saying that, in an answer to someone else, proved what I was trying to and have achieved: By posing a question to Cup of Jones, the Podcast, and FrameTrap, every week, and Community Comments every month, without fail, it is my way of trying to be an engaged supporter. Always, always, always, ALWAYS it is a shock to me when you take my question. To me, its a validation, or more aptly an acknowledgement of, "Your feedback is worth noticing and answering." For me, that's enough. I can say that I'm lucky enough to have had one submission taken for both FrameTrap and the Podcast, and too many one could argue here, but I bet it would surprise you in the tiniest of ways what just doing that, taking a question or feedback, does to someone's morale. I can say from experience: It can make a bad week great. However, your topic does me wonder: How would you handle it if you see a tangible negative instance where this "clique" mentality occurs, be it a loss of support through subscriptions/backing or something gets said in chat/Twitter/wherever against someone and you happen to see it? I really enjoyed this immensely and I. AM. SO. SORRY. for the War & Peace I've left here. If you've read this, thank you SO MUCH for taking the time to do so. I hope this finds you well, and you are having a wonderful day.

Brandon K Gann

Hey there Brandon, thanks for this thought-provoking edition of Cup of Jones which brings to light the importance of everything and everyone coming together so that Easy Allies exists, which is amazing in itself. Personally I've always felt valued as an Ally from the very first time I saw the initial reveal video when you all first formed up, very soon after watching the Easy Allies Podcast I decided that this was definitely something I wanted to support, so I did at the $10 a month tier and I still feel valued, to date I've probably supported you for *checks* around seven months now consistently... I still feel that same amount of value so it's all good. Coming from a background of writing retro videogame reviews for an independent site for over a decade now, I'm always humbled if I get anyone reading what I write even though I've built up a lot of experience in the industry in my spare time, that feeling of being recognised even a little bit for the effort you put into creating things is joyous indeed; I get that same sense of feeling from yourself and all of the Easy Allies crew. I don't feel like anyone owes me anything, neither do I feel like you owe me anything or any of the Patreons. Living in Cornwall, way down at the lowest part of the UK, I'm pretty sure that I won't ever get to meet any of the Allies in my lifetime and I'm OK with that. Of course if any of you did happen to end up in this part of the world then you'd have the warmest of welcomes from myself and anyone else who supports you from here I'm sure. Anyway, it's great to support you all, I will always have nothing but Love & Respect for the Easy-A crew and all Patreons regardless of status or viewpoint. All the best as always, Sam C Gittins.

There's a freaking ocean and several states beween Easy Allies and me. I don't expect to ever meet you people. I would love to meet you all, but the most important thing to me is that you get to do what you like. I've grown up watching you, and I will keep doing that. Some get to enjoy you more than others, but that's life. By the way, Slytherin has nothing on Hufflepuff

Happy 4/20 allies

I think that people that feel entitled to a more personal relationship with you guys are coming from a somewhat immature point of view. Not to say it is not relatable, it's easy to feel connected to someone whose voice you hear everyday. The fact is there's no way that our connection to you is not going to be a one-way relationship (most of the time). This is true to most content creators (kinda hate this term) where they pour their opinions/feelings/personas onto the internet but can not physically process the feedback of all fans. Giving you guys money is a sign of believing the work you do and as gratitude for the entertainment you provide, not a ticket for friendship. Nobody should feel entitled to recognition by you just for being a patreon.

Hey Jones, Patron from the beginning here and upped my donation at the 1 year mark. I don't feel slighted in the least. I donate to this patron(which was the first and only patron I support) because I love the content you all produce and don't want it to stop. Many of the other guys I work with and are patrons agree; we just love the content and want to support it. So shout out from those of us in United States Air Force!

I appreciate your honesty and candidness but there is definitely a "good old boys" feel at times.

Just happy to have more than one episode this month. You can't possibly know every one of us by name and yes some people come up more often, but I only believe that they're more active than me as a working mom I can't be part of everything. This community is built on love and respect and I'd love to meet them as much as you nine at some point. L&R

I think he recorded both CoJ episodes on this one card which is why it ran out.

Olf Himself

Jones, Not to be rude, but the card space problem has come up a few times. Thoughts on getting a card for each show? that way the individual Allie that runs the is responsible for the the cards storage?

Hi Brandon. Thank you for making this episode. I live in Montreal Canada, and while I certainly don't feel resentment or anything towards allies who had the opportunity to go to one of the meetups, it is sucky to not be able to go. Sometimes I do wish I had a way to have a more personal connection with you all, but I understand the reality of the situation and how complicated it is. That's why whenever I happen to tweet at one of you and get a response, it feels special. My username is "Mite000" btw. This episode also went a long way towards making me feel appreciated. It felt very sincere, and I hope to one day be able to shake your hand Brandon. L & R

I agree with Kay

You should probably make this public to all of the Easy Allies community, as you're addressing everyone.

Dallon Taylor

This? Is a good episode. Thanks for addressing this so candidly and directly, and for the reminder to all of us who need to hear it for whatever reason that it is everyone's role to make this community as inclusive and loving and respectful as we can. <3

Brandon may be able to slip into Gryffindor but Brand Manager is Slytherin for SURE

ALSO ALSO ALSO: this episode discussed something that's been on my mind a lot recently! as what some would call a 'big name' in the community, and as someone who was able to go to the meetup and has close friends that are also pretty big within the community, this was a perspective i previously hadn't really thought about and need to more often. thanks for bringing this to light. i know a lot of my friends were super bummed out about not being able to get to the meetup, and a fair few of them don't really feel all that welcome in the community yet. we all need to do our bit to make this whole thing more inclusive, kind and loving all-around.

For myself personally, I don't really mind that some people are mentioned more than others. I think it's normal they get talked about if they create beautiful art or send presents or you guys did meet them somewhere and I don't look at them differently because of this. I live in Belgium and while I will probably never be able to go to a meetup or something like that and I am not that high of a tier on patreon, I don't feel myself less of an Allie because of this. That said, it's nice to mention it for the people who do feel this way and I hope this helps them feel somewhat better about it. It always sucks to hear that people feel bad. Love & Respect to everybody

MrMette

As a fan of yours since the early GT days with Shane, Ryan, Marcus, Rohan, and everyone else whose name alludes me, it is a little bit of a bummer that I live on the otherside of the country and am unable to make it out to meetups and other events. As a producer of the podcasts, I'm just happy that you pronounce my name correctly! Thanks Brandon

Mauricio Fuentes

Very cool topic Brandon. It's not something that's been bothering me personally but I HAVE noticed that, especially after the concert, some people were being talked about like it was natural for everyone to know who they are. I'm in Twitch chat quite a bit so I'm familiar with them but I did come to think of people who mainly watch your Youtube content and have no idea who all these people are and that they might feel lost sometimes.

As a student who can only donate $5 a month and that is it, I really do appreciate this episode a lot. I wish I could have my name appear on twitch subcriptions, I wish I could draw and I wish I could help with community projects but I just cant afford it. And while its a constant wish that you would all come to Canada so I could give you all a big hug, I know there are budgetary concerns for both you the Allies and myself. Having these issues being atleast talked about makes me feel better as a patreon and supporter of this insanely wonderful community and im sure it will for other people in my position as well. Thanks Brandon

Thank you Jones 2 episodes in a month :P

The new Pottermore quiz is totally garbo. All they did was cut the amount of sorting questions by half- your earlier sorting was probably more accurate. So, you're deffo still a Slytherin c:
