Frame Trap - Episode 27 "Surviving the Onslaught of Games"

It's so funny...For me, Final Fantasy 9 was a low in the series, and I really really love FF8. What bugs me about FF9 the most is the boring medieval-style setting. I think it's been used way too often, so even when FF9 was released, I didn't want to see that style anymore. One reason could be, that I'm from Germany and we have a lot of medieval history right in front of us. Like, my town was first mentioned in a document in 1108. Once a year, we have a market called "Kramermarkt" which existst for over 400 years now. Maybe that's one reason why I always like futuristic settings more. I also could never relate to Zidane, I always felt more like Squall, keeping my thoughts and feelings to myself. Overall, the cast from FF9 didn't seem very likeable to me, except for Vivi, whereas in FF8, I liked all the characters, especially Squall and Rinoa. The slowly building love story between these two is what I love the most about that game. Though I admit that there are some weird story elements, like the whole orphanage part (not going into details to avoid spoilers) and the effects of GFs. I think there will always be two groups, the ones that love 8 more and the ones that love 9 more. (Also posted this on youtube)

OMG, a Trail in the Sky recommandation good show Ben, I said it once and I'll say it again Legend of Heroes Trail series is the one of the pinnacles of JRPGs especially in terms world building and characters, the only thing holding it back is budget and tech, I hope you get to see the whole series up until now one day, Trail of Zero and Trail of Emerald were so good.

I LOVE Frame Trap for being this long. But i sometimes do feel like they add to the problem they are talking about. I only have so much free time; in that time i wan't to play 100+ hour games; and next to that, i also have to cater to my wife etc. AND watch my favorite people in the internet, for 3h, i tried playing BOTW during this and even some Persona, but i feel like then i'm only consuming both for 50% instead of 200%.... #FrameTrap #BestTrap

Talking shit about Papa Nier? YOU TAKE IT BACK, BRAD! I've read about and understand how Brother Nier plays jives better with a few of plot elements, but I think a lot of Western players would agree with me that the father/daughter dynamic of Papa Nier is much more endearing than sibling relationships and being call "onii-chan" as Japan seems to like so much. Furthermore, I find it refreshing to have a middle-aged man be the protagonist in a JRPG, a genre where youngins have long been the norm. Sure, Papa Nier acts like a doofus sometimes, but that comes off to me as a bumbling sitcom dad, and his often straightforward mindset is just the matter of an old dog who can't learn new tricks.

Dear Huber. I love Exodia Mage, I tend to like playing combo decks because of their difficulty. Here's a video of why I love Exodia Mage. You can play a faster deck like Ben said OR you can play a card called "Eater of Secrets" Which removes their Ice Blocks &amp; Barriers. It's not impossible to beat Exodia. I consider the old meta with Pirate Warrior to be much more oppressive. When they kill you by turn 4. There's not much you can do besides hoping for a good starting hand to counter them or hope they don't start with the nuts. At least with Exodia Mage you have time to accumulate tools to counter them. By the way Dirty rat can counter Quest Rogue to a certain extent if you pull out their bounce back cards like youthful brew master or Ferryman. I recommend hard Mulligan for dirty rat in a Taunt Warrior.

the problem with heartstone is that the deck is 30 cards and no instant is really bad since like Huber said, you can't react to your enemies and make the game much more predictable and mundane.

I played sky thought it was great started SC but then life and newer games came out. Great cliff hanger that needs to be finished. Truly amazing JRPG, it's funny because this was a game that I stopped playing because I didn't like the opening then played cold steel and realized the potential of sky and boy am I glad I fixed that mistake.

Nothing makes me happier than to hear Ian is enjoying more than just Dark Souls.

My girlfriend introduced me to Animal Crossing. New Leaf was the first one I played, I've been playing it every day for nearly two years. Words cannot express how much this game means to me.

Hey Allies, at the 01:37:00 mark, you guys are talking about lag in MLB the show, and what they could do to fix that. I too do not know the technology behind that, but I think every gaming developer needs to look at Blizzard for how they approach it. I saw a Developer Update from them that addresses how they handle different players playing on different internet speeds, and it's pretty interesting and makes sense, even to me who has no idea about "netcode". And it WORKS! I have pretty medium-to-low internet connection, and I can't play games like SF5 or COD because the lag is unbearable...but I can play Overwatch smoothly and no one in the match cmplains about lag. it just works. I'm sorry but a movie shoehorning in stuff like that to be political on ANY side of the agenda will be precisely why people won't go see it, especially now, even if it's overwhelmingly positive. I go to movies to be entertained, not preached at with thinly veiled allegory, there's enough doom and gloom in my face the moment I wake up in the morning and flip on the TV, PC, or look at the alerts on my phone due to the state our world is currently in. Personally, I'm just over star wars. It was huge with me as a kid, Episode 1 just...tarnished that for me and it never got any better as I got older, so it's easy for me to just let it go now, same with the marvel cinematic universe. It's simply not for me, and that's ok. But no movie or entertainment medium should be expected to carry a message unless it was created to do so, like an indie film or documentary. I mean if people find a deeper message or meaning unintentionally, that's one thing, all entertainment can be indirectly thought provoking on it's own.

Gonna be honest. I fanboy'd into orbit when Ben started talking about Trails in the Sky, even if it was brief. Sky Second Chapter is one of my favorite JRPG's of all time if not THE favorite and to see an Ally giving the game some much deserved L&amp;R makes me so happy. I truly hope more people give this amazing series a chance as it is one of the most rewarding games I've ever played. Also not sure if Ben knows, but the 3rd and final Sky game is coming out on May 3rd and I am hyped beyond belief for it! Too bad I won't be anywhere close to finishing P5 by then but hey, this whole ep was about prioritizing afterall.

I'm a little sick of people being sick of Star Wars and saying it doesn't have to be some great thing. Everyone loves Star Wars or will watch it at least, and that means there is a lot riding on what this movie is saying. People forget that Star Wars has ALWAYS been relevent to the times. The original was so much a product of the 70s and protests and Vietnam and Nixon and overthrowing the corrupt establishment. But we live in a time where people are divided against themselves, not just the establishment. Saying one or two trigger phrases can immediately make half the country hate you. Think about that. If a Star Wars movie decided to acknowledge this and not be all about GOOD BLUE vs BAD RED, tried to get us to drop the "us vs. them" mentality, think about how powerful that could be. Think of the influence of EZA's "L&amp;R" writ global. A Star Wars movie has the potential do more good (or more harm) in the real world than just about any movie or franchise, and that's not something to be shrugged off. A Star Wars movie has to be a lot more than just dumb fun.

I'm pretty thankful to have headphones on while playing games recently, since the soundtracks have been incredible. I'm a huge fan of jazz and funk music, so playing Persona 5 has been the best thing ever. Even 70 hours into the game, I can't stop dancing in my seat. So freaking good. Although it has a different vibe, I also love Automata's soundtrack. If Ian is really into the Nihilism, there's a track that he will freaking love towards the end of the first playthrough. Another personal favorite of mine is the track that plays in the village. Overall, an amazing time for game OST's.
