Cup of Jones - 04/16/17

Getting to 3 episodes worth of Cup Questions makes for 1 very long episode. I get kind of freaked out when an episode gets this long, because I think "I must have said something really stupid in there somewhere." So dig in and let me know where those moments are. Going to try to separate Feedback, Editorials, and general EZA updates into separate episodes of the show, so you get smaller Cups to digest sometimes, and more Cups overall.

I'm getting used to our new mixer, but goofed a bit setting it up, so you might notice the sync slip and slide a little bit. Definitely sounds better. I'll be testing out various mics for CoJ as well now that our audio setup has changed. All part of the process. Thank you for being a part of it!

Cup of Jones - 04/16/17

Comments

Brandon, Are there any plans for another EZA meetup during PSX (assuming it's happening). I'm starting to look at possible travel plans to fly out and finally meet the crew! -TheDarkKnight774

Greg Kettering

I already asked a question, but another has come to mind. I can also ask this again next go around, so feel free to skip if you only want to do 1 question per patron. For the studio, if another production group contacted you about sharing a studio space, would you consider it? It would split some of the costs and hopefully would help with it being a long term commitment. I also know GT shared studio space with other DEFY Media productions, so it might not be a burden. Or maybe it would be? I want to hear your thoughts of the upside and downside of that arrangement. L&R

Robert I.

Every time you talk about old GT videos especially shows it soumds a little bitter. I can understand that you want to make a clean cut and everything but it sounds like you wouldn't stand behind it so much. It's just that the old times mean so much for so many people. Maybe I'm just imagining it. But when you talk about old crew members it sound definitely more fondly. And if you bring back old gt guys back for shows and podcasts, then please rocco demaro ( I know I'm repeating myself but he is so amazing) L & R

Tim Bechen

Hey Brandon, out of curiosity, why does Huber have a constant urge to bet on every single thing, whether if it is for a podcast, group stream, E3 press conference etc.? Also, why Ian is not a fan of Rockstar Games?

Wouldn't it be better to get a higher tier sponsorship if you're going to promote sponsors on Frame Trap instead of doing a $250-$300 and separating the sponsors. Example $1000 tier sponsor promoted on Frame Trap and EZA podcast. You can also do 1 patron tier at $3000 and have that sponsor on all the podcasts.

Ibrahim Sozer

Hoy Brandon! Watching from across the ocean in Australia, and would be interested to hear where the hotspots of fellow Allies are across the globe. What are your viewer location stats like for all your patrons and youtube subscribers? Cheers!

Jones, now that you are officially committed to doing a Furby podcast, I'd be remiss not to point you to this video of a Furby being crushed by a hydraulic press: <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FE5mco2RBdc" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FE5mco2RBdc</a>

I´m from Germany and I can assure you that most of us LOVE our beer cold ;)

Mike Dengel

When EZA gets the office, what color do you want the walls in your 60th floor corner office to be?

Matt Currin

Ian's podcast is amazing and I'm actually really proud of you guys for branching out in that way! Vive la Allies!

Rhodesiensensical

Fun Question: Turns out Rockstar HAS been listening to you, Jones. All this time! They finally reach out to you as you’ve been such a vocal fan of theirs for years. They know from your feedback that they should keep doing what they have been with GTA and Red Dead, but because you were so critical of the “Manhunt” franchise they ask you to help them make “Manhunt 3” enjoyable. “We need the BranJ!” the Housers plead to you. How do you go about making/designing an entertaining, high quality “Manhunt 3”?

Robert I.

Hey Jones, what kind of workout build is Sean Clinton training you in? Is it a LEAN AND RIPPED plan? Or is it a MUSCLE MASS MONSTER plan? I'm currently building muscle mass, and I really want to thank you for sharing the PaceFitness page on Twitter. It has helped me a lot so far!

Is Easy Allies making the same mistakes as some crowdfunded games? Kickstarted games get a lot of criticism when they focus too much on stretch goals and not on the main game/what was originally promised. I feel like this is happening a bit with Easy Allies. Not that I want to sound like I'm demanding anything but, for example, I would rather Damiani focus on what was already promised with Game Sleuth rather than starting Zelda Talk and Friend Code. ( I also feel like there are too many podcasts but that's a different topic.) Again, I don't want to sound demanding or like I want to dictate what you guys do, just a bit of constructive criticism.

Just started the video. Over 2 hours... Oh yeah!

Miguel Pires Ramos

Any thoughts on making a PlayStation or Xbox centric show like friend code cause there is a opening for the number 1 PlayStation podcast

Kc Wright

Wow i'm the first feedback you're adressing and it wasnt even a question for you Jones. Thanks a lot for mentioning and answering it though :) L&amp;R

Sven Van Lathem

Jones: You rock. Thanks for answering my question (I gladly listened through the whole 2 hours to hear mine mentioned at the very end). PAX East was a month ago, but here's hoping for 2018! Cheers.

Brian Denu

Hey Brandon, Doctor Who's on again! You watching?

DaleBastion

Here's a question for you and Blood, the two allies who are married : How can I know if I'm really in love?

Jones! I hope you didn't think there was any animosity in my previous comment, if you did I apologise! The point I tried (and failed) to make was that I watch other YouTube channels (Funhaus, Rooster Teeth, Kinda Funny, etc) and they all constantly do collaborations with other people (and each other). It's a great way to mix different fan bases and to increase subscribers/patrons, etc which is what I want for EZA. As I said, I'm not putting this all on you. Get Huber in the Kinda Funny studio, get Kyle on the Dude Soup podcast, get Elyse on Frame Trap! Let's keep spreading the word of EZA and hit $50k in 2017! 💪🏻

Adam Mullany

RE: the Frame Trap sponsor. I wonder if the smarter thing to do might be to add two HIGHER tier slots (~$1000 - 1500) which could be listed across all your major podcasts. To prevent podcast halftime becoming too bloated you might need to remove two corresponding $500 slots. But this way you could lock in a significant portion of funds every month, and give a couple sponsors a chance to significantly boost their exposure.

James McCoy

Now that it's been a year of EZA, and the garage has been renovated and redecorated, would you consider doing a new garage tour?

Dallon Taylor

Agreed, I think Game Feel or similar literature about game design is required reading for those who wanna get in depth on games

How nervous were you starting GT and then EZA and which was more nerve racking?

Kian Jahromi

I have experience brewing beer. Regarding warm beer, beer is supposed to be served at the temperature it is fermented. The reason Americans like cold beer is because lagers are cold fermented beer, it actually pushed refrigeration technology in America. Most yeast strains used for making beer needs to sit at just under room temperature, therefore the beer usually tastes better at that temperature. I do refrigerate many of my beers as well though, it is refreshing.

Hey Jones! I would really like you guys to spend some time and money on learning about video game design, marketing, programming and such. I feel like games media often come of as a little ignorant to the disciplines needed to create video games. I mean... I love to hear you opinions and reactions to news and trailers and such, but I believe that there is much more value in deep analysis. Especially is you want to make content that is unique and meaningful. Maybe not all videos need to arrive at 100 miles per hour, you know?

Miss that female gamer perspective and opinion.

Hey Jones, not sure where the best place to voice this concern is, and I apologize in advance if I come off as harsh or negative, I don’t mean to. But I feel as though Easy Allies are slowly becoming more and more quantity over quality. With or without every thousand dollars the Patreon gains there are more and more podcast-like shows, more hours of streams each week and more activities to take up the already limited time of the allies. I love the EZA podcast, Frame Trap, and even the brand new spoiler show and Friend Code, and those are just the ones I can make the time to watch (not counting shorter shows), maybe I’d love the rest too, but these are all in a way, more of the same, content and production-wise. You all cite crazy and hectic shooting &amp; streaming schedules as the issues behind getting certain productions done and I can’t imagine adding more and more of these long-form shows would help if you reached the Trailer Score goal (everyone worries about your sleep as it is). Like many others I came over from the fall of GT because I loved those slickly produced shows, and while I love what EZA does, I do miss those types of fully produced shows. I can’t help but think more and more hours of streaming and podcasts takes away from timely reviews, Game Sleuths, Retrospectives, and other shows the Allies might want to do. Huber’s show is the only consistent &amp; regular planned &amp; produced show (sometimes Easy Update) and even then some of those episodes are basically podcasts. Kyle’s show isn’t even part of the channel and is nowhere near regular. What are your and the other Allies thoughts on this?

Germans are pretty well known for cars and mechanical engineering in general as well. -Bloodworth

Easy Allies

I remember Kyle mentioned on a stream that you deserve a new TV for the garage and frankly, I agree with him. Any news on that? (Hopefully it's one with low input lag for Huber)

Always kinda sad as a German, that the only positive thing we're known for worldwide is beer. Probably b/c I don't particularly like alcohol and what it does with many ppl. Is that strange? 8] *gives Brandon a mental hug* L&amp;R

Hallo Brandon, I must say I think you do a great job "hat switching" between the different roles you take, i.e. Podcast Jones doesn't bleed into Corporate Jones, which doesn't bleed into Cup O' Jones. There's some overlap where necessary but, in general, no complaints. It's not an easy thing to do. I'm not a fan of the collab idea, lukewarm at best. I don't know if patrons feel they need more direct involvement to justify the higher tiers they may be at, but for the measly 5 dollars I throw in I don't expect any special considerations. Keep projects secret, doesn't bother me. Lastly, on Spreadshirt, I wasn't super happy with the printing on the shirt I got. Alignment was a bit off. Not bad enough to request a refund (also shipping back from EU to US, nope) but if you are considering switching suppliers I guess it's worth sharing. L &amp; R &amp; all that jazz

Aren't the Game Grumps in LA? You should collab with them :)

Were I in California, Jones, I would gladly volunteer my A/V tech skills to help alleviate some of the production troubles of you and the rest of the allies. I, personally, have the upmost respect for you guys and am more than willing to go above and beyond to show my gratitude. As would everyone else, I'm sure. Here's to another fantastic year. Love and respect, Derek

Hi Brandon, There are a lot of gaming related charities that are doing amazing things in the community. Would you be open to adding a slot for them during the podcast half time? I think it would be a great match with L&amp;R to provide a free shout-out to one of these organisations. I'm sure your community would be able to make a real difference for these causes. L&amp;R

The Hashtagonist

I really enjoyed your British-accent version of Podcast Halftime in a recent episode of the podcast. Do you have any other voices or impressions that we haven't heard yet?

Fluffhead108

The only problem with a two hour COJ is that is leaves me with about ten things I want to address, and if I start writing that comment, I will be here all night. :D

BeatenDownBrian

Hi Brandon This is something you talked about once before in a very early COJ, but I just thought now might be a good time to maybe reiterate the benefits that a studio would have for EZA, as you have gained a lot of new Patreons since then. I’d really like you dig into just how exactly a studio could change Easy Allies for the better, how it could affect things like production values, or the time needed to produce shows/reviews. How it might possibly affect the frequency of when we get certain shows, like a Spoiled, or a Game Sleuth, or a Retro, or how certain shows may possibly change due to the benefit of having a studio. There are other things too like, streams and the possibility of more guests. Lastly I’d like to know how and if it would help ease the workload for all of you. P.S. I realize there is a lot to unpack here, but I feel like it’s something worth getting into and just reminding people about. L&amp;R

BeatenDownBrian

Thanks for responding Brandon, now here's another question, not money related. Do you copyright your shows and all that? how is that, for take the example of "Short Reactions" you look for a name that was free?

Daniel Garza Andrade

Video files take a lot of space. How do you decide what footage to keep for future use, and what captures/shoots can be deleted when your done with review or show edit?

Alexander Zyryanov

Any chance we get a Trailer Jones preview that can give the community a general idea about the show? And maybe help to boost the funds to reach the goal and make you sleepless more 😂😂😂

Angelo Torres

I would have loved to have seen that Witcher 3 vs Bloodborne for GOTY 2015 conversation. I can honestly imagine Ben's face as he tells Blood and Jones "I get what you're saying, and you're right... but...". More than any other year, I wish there was a camera set up to watch the team debate this, much like we got to see for last years nominees. Great episode Brandon.

If you come to PAX Australia the drinks are on me! P.S. I demand a Furby podcast or I will unsubscribe. Furby news is the only reason I am interested in EZA.

I always wondered, are Twitch streams entirely voluntary or are they required in some way to stream once a week? L&amp;R, Sir Crimz

How do you all handle discipline/accountability? Since you're all cofounders I assume there's no true boss and it's generally working through mutual respect but still.... has anyone had to crack the whip? Have there been any intervention type talks for any type of poor behavior? (Not referring to the trial of kyle bosman)

Tony

Thanks for the answers! As for commitment, that question was an older one and I think some of the updates we got at the start of year 2 give us more of an idea of what to expect going forward. I will say Game Sleuth and Ben's Tales from Japan are really the only things imo that have dropped the ball a bit on both expectations from when they were announced to where they are now. I think part of the reason for that is because the cost was emphasized in both of those instances. Especially with Game Sleuth is listed as a goal. I am hoping that it gets to be a quarterly thing. Also, for what it's worth, I am most excited for more Spoiler Mode this year!

Bdun912

I am loving the RSS feed, and this would be great for that

Bdun912

Will we ever get a Cup of Sophie?

jif52

Hi Easy Allies! have you ever had a discussion about releasing your work under one of the creative commons licenses? Love &amp; Respect Lieven Hanssen

Lieven Hanssen

It's all good Mr. Jones! On my first question, I was looking for any example, and the one you gave was sound. If there was a, "nitty-gritty" example, that would've worked too, but I was only curious because you didn't give one in your previous answer, that's all. By the way, I had to giggle when you put the inflection emphasis at the end of the question. Always stay entertaining (Thumbs up emoji here). For my second question, I COMPLETELY understand whenever it becomes necessary to "prune the garden" as it were. Thankfully someone else asked about the Game Slueth and Retros beforehand and I am in total agreement with your response to them. I'm really looking forward to the Souls Retro and my point about why I brought those up specifically was no one said anywhere, "We're working on something." No details necessary for me personally, just knowing that you haven't forgotten it is all I hope for all of you on the promises front. I understand I ONLY can speak for myself, so for me, saying you have something in the works is great, because it builds anticipation (Absolutely LOVE that function on the website by the way). Also, when you cancel a show, I like the "Hey everybody, this is changing, here's why," approach, much like how Story Time panned out. I feel that was a great way to say you had a show idea, but upon further reflection, you as a whole felt it necessary to put your efforts elsewhere. Taking a look at the Easy Allies (to date, April 17) list of shows or "programming" that you produce regularly or will in the future, you have: EZA Podcast FrameTrap Huber Syndrome Easy Update Tabletop Escapades EZAnime Fiasconauts Community Comments Reaction Shots Reviews Retrospectives Game Sleuth Spoiler Mode Don't Skip The Nintendo Podcast Zelda Talk Monthly Patreon Q&amp;A The promise of, if you hit $45K, you'll do another Trailer show (I would LOVE it, but that's counter to the point I'm making) and of course here, Cup of Jones (I'm not counting Don's Discount Gaming, as Mr. Casanova does those when he pleases, so I don't think of those as promised or regular, despite their wonderful quality) And ALL of this makes no mention of all the streaming you all do PLUS the background work you engage in with higher Patreon tiers, business partnerships and sponserships, and probably three or five other things I'm missing. My entire premise is: I believe in all of you, and I'm so proud to say I've been a Patron since March 21, 2016 (I think. Or shortly thereafter. But I'm sure day one), and I just don't want all of you to burn yourselves out (Too late I guess ;^J ) and not be able to deliver on what you promise because you have too much stuff. Quality over quantity, but if yourself and the other Allies can handle it, I'm sure you'll do great. Just wanted to let you know that at least one fan has this on their mind. Thanks so much for taking my questions though! After proofreading this, I think I may have come across critical and I don't want that to be the case. I just want to see all of you succeed. IF you've read this, I'm EXTREMELY sorry for the long post. Because of it's length I don't want to take up more of your time with this post by including a question, so I'll do that when you post the next one. Dependent upon when you read this, have a good night/day.

Brandon K Gann

Hey Brandon, With the latest initiative of getting podcasts on the private RSS feed, is there any possibility Cup Of Jones could get the same treatment? It’s an awesome service, so I’d appreciate it if you have the time. Tim

Tim O'Keeffe

Hi Brandon! After listening to your remarks on video editing and cognition, I've got to ask: what does your editing process for the Podcast entail? There's the obvious stuff – music/text for the intro/outro, corrections, Podcast Halftime, bets, etc. – but do you edit the audio and video beyond that? I hadn't thought about that at all until I did a podcast as a school project and realized that there's a lot of effort required just to create a coherent and pleasant listening experience. What does that process look like for the EZA podcast? L&amp;R, Josh. (P.S. I'm only ~20 minutes into the episode so far, so apologies if by coincidence you answer this later on.)

Hey Jones! No question here, just wanted to say that I really like the idea of splitting up the Cup of Jones episodes into different categories. I feel like it would be more manageable for both the audience and yourself to not have to discuss comment, an editorial, and general EZA update in one episode. We might even get a chance to see more of your beautiful mug, (and your face too.) I wouldn't mind the comments episode to be a rare treat! P.S. Thanks for answering my question on the show!

Quaznarg

Hey Jones! I really enjoy listening to the Easy A Podcast. I usually listen to it on my drives to and from work, however I live in Toronto, Canada and we don't have the best cellular data plans up here. I really also enjoy Cup of Jones but would love to add it to my daily drives instead of trying to squeeze them in at home. Any chance we can get an RSS feed or SoundCloud link of Cup of Jones as well to help save some of those crazy phone bills! Thanks! Love and Respect Eh =Devyn

Not to be my usual negative self, but for a little feedback....I don't understand the sheer amount of demand I see you getting about doing more collaborative things (Other YT/Twitch content creators specifically, not game devs and such.) I'm personally not that interested in Non-EZA people being involved, I support EZA to see EZA, if I wanted to see kinda funny for example, I'd go see them. Different fanbases, schedules, personalities....don't always mix. Beers, we're two totally different people on that one. I LOVE Dark Beers. BUT I'm with you on needing my beer cold instead of warm, I can't stand warm beer. It's like cold coffee. Question for next time- Will Jones finish Persona 5? And is there plans to have ben interview you and kyle to get your outsider opinions on the game?

ZyloWolfBane

Question for next feedback episode: Will you EVER bring back Level and/or Backtrack?

TurboChickenMan

You mention the audio sync problem, but on the visual side, this episode looks like it was shot under moonlight (in other words, DARK). In fact, other shows that have been shot with the new camera have looked dark too. Surely there's some button to press to fix this?

TurboChickenMan

Game Sleuth is definitely the most polished show they produce (though Easy Update is pretty slick too). But only two episodes in a year? Come on.

TurboChickenMan

He suggested that he was going to do this in this very episode, didn't he?

TurboChickenMan

hi jones what is your favorite food?

2 hrs of cup of Jones, yayyyyyyy !! Btw I'm only at 30 min but I love your honesty in every cup of jones regarding the way you handle money/investments etc. Hope to see you at Gamescom 2018 maybe (this year's edition is a bit too close I think for you to plan that). -A french patreon-

Térence Caron

+1 for having the same shirt that I have. Pretty stylin'

Larry DuPreez III

But what happened with Weird Al?! Did you talk to him?

iconmaster

Thank you for your feedback Mister Jones :)

Randy Verschueren

I can assure you, warm beer is not the norm in Germany. No idea what the deal was with the family you were with, but that sounds weird.

thank John

Mugen Himura

Funny mentioning Joker in a Wolverine question, because i allways believed that Jack Nicholson, especially in the movie "Wolf", would have been a perfect Wolverine AND he did a near perfect Joker (to me )

Randy Verschueren

Thanks as always for all the hard work you do. Cheers!

Swordfish00830

yeah, realy sorry to be hars; but GameSleuth is the biggest let down from EZA atm; so much promised, nothing much deliverd (where are those high end production values ?)

Randy Verschueren

Maybe you could split cup of Jones into two shows, a cup of feedback (long w/audio version?), And cup of news where you could do editorial or patreon/allies news (shorter bossman length)? Just a thought... L&amp;R Matt

Matt Brookbank

hahah I can confirm that Jones gives great hugs! To Jones' defense too, I'm pretty short so walking past me is pretty easy. I felt bad stopping you since you were so busy but I was stoked to meet you and the guys and I can't wait for the next meet up that I can make to talk more and hang out more!

Unrelated, but just browsing through here when suddenly, "Is that a Dara O'Briain profile pic!? Why, yes, it is". Lols, etc.

I've never understood complaints from fans that a video/show is too long. Basically you're saying "I don't have time to watch this in one sitting, so no one else should see it." I can see making a few short videos to draw in new viewers, but we're already here. As long as segment time-codes are in the description, and the takes are hot, what's the problem?

Would love to see Marcus Beer on one of the shows if he is feeling up to it.

Hey Jones, thanks for answering my question, I hope it didn't seem agro. Really love all your guys content and look forward to whatever you do in the future. Also it's produced Reese (as in Witherspoon).

Rhys Simons

Hi Jones, always good to watch your videos and hear you speak almost about anything, I'm such a fan :) I hope one day we can meet and talk about all sorts of stuff :) Here's my question: I feel that you've been a big Blizzard fan in the past, but you kind of moved away from, or at least not been that interested, in their games lately, except maybe for Overwatch(?). If it's true, what it the reason? And how do you feel about Blizzard these days in general?

Ahmad Sammy

Haha warm beer is def not a German thing as far as I'm aware lived here my whole life and if possible I drink it cold or at least at room temperature during colder seasons. ----------- Wheew finally reached the part with my question to follow up on it, I think wasn't so much referring to actual concrete plans of building it or where you're going to rent a space I was more thinking about starting to communicate your vision for what the studio means for EZA. Although reading my question again I went about it very weirdly, sorry! I think the two main reasons for starting to communicate at 45k about the studio I see are for one to drive up excitement for it but also so the community has a clearer vision of what the studio means. The main reason is that I sometimes see people voicing their aversion to you guys getting a studio cause they fear EZA would lose the cozy and homely vibes that your garage setup has and I also don't think the immediate benefits are necessarily clear to everyone yet. Thanks for everything you guys do - L&amp;R David

Holy shit. Cup of Jones the movie. I'll get pop corn and a beer for this.

César Villa

Yea the sync is off

Kanlink

Two HOURS? Jones you crazy for this.

Is it me or is the audio slightly ahead (or behind) the video? Something feels off, anyways thanks for the epic length Cup of Jones.

new mixer hype! hope to watch this soon. thanks, Jones!
