Friend Code - Nintendo Memories Part 1

On the first episode, Bloodworth, Bosman, and Damiani share their first experiences with the NES, GameBoy, and SNES.

I want to thank everyone who backed this new podcast and hope you enjoy the first episode. Apologies in advance for some of the rough stuff including the title sequence (will have a different one for next time), the logo (still working on a final version), and the thumbnail (needs the logo to be done). Also, there is no SoundCloud version for now because the show is being submitted to iTunes/Stitcher and once verified I will be able to change the settings to post it normally like we do for our other podcasts.

The Patron Audio Only version will be in the post above this one.

If you don't get to the end of the episode, I want to point out that $5 and up Patrons can submit questions for Question of the Week in a follow-up post (should be two above this one). So be sure to check that out. That segment is not present in this episode, but will be in most future episodes.

So please let me know your feedback and suggestions here.

L&R,

- Damiani

Cool podcast, looking forward to more! Loved the memories discussions lol, and I'm glad you guys will be talking about time-relevant Nintendo news as well, like the Directs etc. And a special shout-out to the origins of Cold Blooded, stemming all the way back to school when the teachers already had this negative perception of you, Blood! It all makes sense now.. With that, looking forward to the next episode, so see you when the next Blood moon rises. -FUNKNOWN/Julian

Anyone else looking forward to the release of Kyle Kombat

Nicholas Braley

Loved it.... looking forward to the next one.

Mitchell Collier

Great first episode, and super stoked to see you doing a Nintendo focused show! I can't wait for what's to come.

Really enjoyed the 1st Episode, brought back some fond memories. Liked the jingle on the Intro, but felt the logo and artwork could do with some polish. I also agree an Outro would be cool, as opposed to fading to black. Dear Nintendo is a brilliant segment, please have more. I thought your cutaways to game footage was brilliant, I'd love in the future if you could even include photos from your collections e.g - seeing Blood's actual Nintendo Powers would have been so cool! (Assuming he still had them). Great Start.

I immediately hit rewatch after this episode finished, great work Damiani! Especially excited to hear more funny Nintendo magazine excerpts. My first and last Nintendo console was the NES :( I rented the N64 for a week from Blockbuster, which was the most glorious week of my childhood.

I'm sure this would be one of most watched things on this great site if everyone could watch it. I loved it, thanks

up, down blowing/ up, down breathing/ and then up, down blowing again. Quickly push that power button in, out, in and you're on point. Love the new show, keep it coming.

Kyle - I think you are talking about Dragon Spirit by Namco when you mention a Dragon shooter. It was a very cool coin-op too!

Jason Walstrom

I love that they included game footage in the video!!

Chris Martinez

I totally did a reader review for our Club Nintendo. Reviewed Ocarina of Time and was awarded with a Pikachu bath sponge.

A nice one-hour podcast. Was great to hear those memories, I started to think back to my childhood in a same way (only with PlayStation). As stated above, I too think that the show needs something to visually differentiate itself from the many other EZA shows. Add some colour red there. Bring a few Mario mushrooms on the table. Maybe some Nintendo banner on the background. Small things like that would do a lot right away.

Ville Ranto

Great show! The Dear Nintendo section felt a little weird, while it's cool to revisit kids from that era writing to the company, in a less sarcastic history. mocking is never fun. I hope we get more of these in the future, with less mocking.

Wait a minute are you saying Santa isn't real?!

John Meza

Not a bad shout, actually. TTE looks different because of all their D&D gear strewn aboot. Maybe *shock* move Lightning, get some nintendo stuff. Just chuck some amiibos on the table.

Samuel Cardwell

Cool show. I'd recommend somehow switching up how the show looks visually though. All of the podcast type things are starting to blend together visually. Something as easy as changing the table cloth color or having a banner for the show somewhere would be cool.

Tony

Great podcast! Dear Nintendo is already the funniest thing ive seen

Great podcast. This might well become my favourite thing to come out of EZA.

Just a joyful show! Brought quite a few smiles and warm feelings. The NES was also my first system. Like Kyle, I also skipped over the SNES. Because at the time my parents bought a PC. So my next video game system would be N64.

I am on my iPhone is there a way to get an rss link for this

Really nice job Damiani. I wonder if those days outrageous NES prices were to help the rental market. They used to do the same with VHS tapes- come out at 80 bucks for a month for the rental window and then drop to 20 when the normal ppl would buy in. Also, battleclash was an awesome game. It was short, but fun. The super scope had a bun wrap which was undeserved.

This show wasn't on my radar before, but I absolutely loved it. Very chill, hangout kind of vibe, and felt a lot of nostalgia for my own first Nintendo experiences. Makes me want to chat with some friends about our own early gaming memories... Looking forward to Part 2!

I feel like there needs to be something, anything at the end to close out the podcast rather than just fading out, and it would be good if Damiani could practice speaking some before these, so that maybe he would not stumble over his words so much. It's fine during conversation when Damiani is thinking about what to say next, but during podcast moderation parts it would sound much better if he was able to speak more clearly, Love & Respect. Looking forward to seeing this podcast grow.

Suggestion once the 2nd part episode is over. How about adding a "Friend Code" segment. Where an Allie submits their Nintendo Switch or 3DS Friend Code who could use some friends to play with.

Swordfish00830

That was really fun to watch! Each Ally had a different story that was similar to something I experienced as a younger kid. I was getting the Official Xbox Magazine months before I could get an Xbox (similar to Blood and getting a NES). Like Damiani, I also used the 2 cartridge trick to get games to play on NES. And like Kyle, I had a NES, but completely skipped the SNES generation (luckily getting N64 much later), so it was either rent a SNES, or go to a friends house with a newer console. Great 1st episode!

This is Fantastic

This made me so happy! :)
