For Honor - Easy Allies Review

Take me to Valhalla! I put about 35 hours into multiplayer to make sure I fully understood combat and balancing. There were a couple problems I had with the game, but nothing to diminish the fact that fighting an opponent is incredibly rewarding and subtly complex. I feel like things are only getting started, and For Honor will continue to get better as time goes on.  - Huber

For Honor - Easy Allies Review

So many people not understanding how reviews work in those comments. "You should be predicting the experience of the majority of other players, not basing your review on your own experiences!" We're not all like that guys :) Small piece of advice though, I don't think the faction stuff was explained very well. I was hit with tonnes of information in the space of a few seconds and words blurred into each other a lot. The reliance on specialist terms unique to the game is abundant towards the end, so, being someone that hasn't played the game, it takes a lot of effort for me to try and understand the critiques you're trying to make. However, thank you for the content, as always :)

On topic of the review, I thought it was great. I'm usually skeptical on ubisoft releases (And still am) but this originally scared me being a new IP and multi-player focused, I expected a bad experience from the start. And I feel they did a pretty decent job for a first outing. It could get better with updates, and I hope it does since I'm fully invested (Bought the gold edition), but even if it doesn't I'll still have high hopes for a sequel to this game now and won't be able to immediately write it off. Glad you've been enjoying it huber even through all the salt I've seen on stream, I've already beaten up my controller and walked away several times but you keep on going man, YOU have honor.

Relying on p2p as a paid service is ridiculous.

I gotta stop some of you right off the bat. Connection problems are a case by case basis, not everyone has open NAT, not everyone has properly port forwarded connections, not everyone even uses wired connections and you have zero control over what regions the game's matchmaking prioritizes. The game is Peer to Peer, every single game will be different for everyone depending on who's hosting. I personally run into very few issues playing on my own, but when I invite other people to my party, that's when the issues start. But that's not a problem with the game, it's the method they chose to use for this game instead of dedicated servers, bottom line it's a problem with the PEOPLE playing with bad connections than anything else. It's also been the chosen matchmaking system for fighting games and FPS games for many many years, and the same problems still exist. Sure he could've mentioned it, but it doesn't really help anyone to do so, his experiences won't necessarily be yours, it's not guaranteed that you'll have issues just because he did, or vice versa. (And from watching him stream he didn't run into many problems from what I witnessed, so maybe it wasn't as big of an issue to him?) Now as for the rest of the review, I feel it's on point. Though I personally hold the campaign mode as by far it's weakest component, Granted it's better that the game had it since many games exclude such modes and assume people don't want them. And the multiplayer experience varies so greatly that other than pure mechanics there's no real ultimate truth to be told other than that you're going to need to "Git Gud" As for fun factor, well from how he described 1v1 duels and from watching huber stream 1v1 matches clearly that's where he thinks the game is the most fun, that felt properly conveyed to me. Either way, multiplayer focused games are messy to review, and even harder to give a recommendation for. All anyone can (Or should) be expected to do is outline what the game offers, and what major problems it might have. And that was done.

No offense to Huber, but I think this wasn't a really good review. It glosses over a number of problems people are having with the game (most notably the connection issues), while at the same time doing a poor job at communicating what actually makes the game so fun. I understand reviews are subjective, I'm not complaining about 4 stars being too high or low, I just feel the script doesn't really justify the score one way or the other.

On the faction war problem, can't you just press circle to 'View other fronts' and put your war assets where you need them? I've been doing that for a while and it seems to work fine.

I am loving the game when it works but I am baffled why the connection issues the game has were not brought up. That is something important to a lot of people, particularity fighting game fans. It hasn't stopped me from playing but it is something I caution those who are interested in picking it up. Would love to see the Allies battle each other again with some more experience under their belt or Stream some 2v2s.
