It's hard to choose.... but in the end I had to give my vote to Super Metroid. Sorry Ben.

I dig Ben's argument. Not a fan of all the games it inspired, but I agree it did. Bloodworth, or anyone arguing for the game, I feel it's all too easy to point out all the things that one of the later entries (hint: ZM) does so much better.

Super Metroid FTW! This is a game I have no nostalgia for since I never had a SNES and I've played it on a 3DS a few months ago... it absolutely holds up! The atmosphere, the music, the gameplay, the fluidity of graphics. It's just one of those games (Ocarina of Time is another one) that I never got to play at the time, but playing it 20 years later, one still has to appreciate their greatness. Plus they're entertaining as fuck ;-)

Sadly when I tried to play Super Metroid as a kid I got stuck early on and ended up returning my rental before I was able to really get into it. Street Fighter on the other hand was the game for me as a kid, spent countless hours just beating up these guys, buying huge guide books mostly just to look at all the different concept art for all the characters. Also, street fighter never stopped at from that point, from 2 then to alpha (zero) then to 3-4-5 these games and characters have always been around this whole time which is really cool. Metroid is a cool series just never one I was able to really get into.

feel like Ben's selection is compromised by being kinda spread across the original and the upgrade (re-release?). There was a little positivity in polish and additional characters, but also a little negativity in balance tweaks and "cash-grab" nature of it. Plus his argument feels a little confused (between the two versions). i'd argue the original release was "no filler" but by the final upgrade, some of the characters were silly throw away. anywho. on the other hand, i never even played Bloodworth's, while I played the shit out of Ben's. and Ben's was clearly one of the important releases in video game history (that arguably changed the whole marketing focus of the industry away from families and towards young males, until the Wii came out)

Both these games are among the greats. I voted ben, but seeing as it's now a long shot, I will submit that bloods might be more deserving of the additional prestige of being inducted upon it's first time nominated.

Super Metroid is my childhood.

Easy pick for me. SF2 took four games (until Super Turbo) before it became the best fighting game around. Super Metroid was perfect on the first go.

Since no one nominated Chrono Trigger, and MGS was already vicotorious, the next game on my list would have probably been Metroid anyway, so easy pick for me.

What a tough choice. Both are seminal games in their respective genres. Both were released in '94. Both are sequels that greatly improved upon the originals. Super Metroid is literally the first Metroidvania game. SF2 defined an era and was a cultural sensation. I really don't know which to vote for!

Besides fighters are not as big as in the past. Multi million dollar sellers are exclusive to Mk and Smash

Ben has no chance. I'm all the way SF2. It's forever going to be known for laying the foundation for an entire genre but...I think we all know among the allies that Metroid is going to win. But since this is the EZA Hall of the Greats maybe that's totally ok.

SF2 is the foundation of all modern fighting games. Super Metroid was fantastic, but many things it did well had been done before by othe games. I would prefer a Castlevania game to be inducted before a Metroid game. Although both of these games are unquestionably some of the "Greats."

Both will get in eventually, no question: but Blood's is an early lock for sure.

Ben's pick elevated the fighting genre to a standard that is still used today. It was a game changer. It did to fighting games what the Beatles did to music. That is why, it is one of the greats.

I like Street Fighter 2, and there's no doubt that it has influenced many games to come after it, but I enjoyed Super Metroid 10x more. They both improved upon their predecessors in remarkable ways, but Super Metroid just kept me more engaged with the story and atmosphere.

still shocked that neither Super Mario Bros, or Legend of Zelda were even mentioned in the first induction to the hall of fame. I'm guessing that everyone sort of assumed everyone else was going to go that route and decided to go with more personal games.

I played Blood's option 10 years later and it still holds. The level design is unmatched and the Music/ presentation is not replicated even by the team that developed it.

I agree that using the last version makes it boring. Make it bold or use the third one.

I played many hours by myself as a kid. As an adult I find that boring.

Street Fighter 2 is something I could live with on a deserted island (that somehow has a monitor and electricity and a console).

Ben's pick had such a great influence on video games but at the same time, if we are to pick the "best" version, why not take the latest? All these editions are just confusing. On the other hand Blood's selection is one of the best adventure game ever made and deserves to be one of the Greats.

Without Super Metroid there wouldn't have been Metroid Prime which definitely has a place in my Hall of Greats. Also I love Metroidvania games while fighting games almost always fail to attract my attention for extended periods of time (exceptions being Smash and Mortal Kombat). Therefore my vote has to go to Bloodworth's pick.

Such a tough call but ultimately I think Super Metroid takes the edge. That being said, I wouldn't be surprised if Street Fighter II took it next time. It also deserves a spot.

This is a REALLY hard choice. Fighting games are a big part of my life, and Street Fighter 2 is without doubt the father of them all. Unfortunately, I don't think any iteration of Street Fighter 2 is actually particularly good anymore. Important? Absolutely. A top five Street Fighter game? I just don't see it. Super Metroid, on the other hand, influenced so many great games and is itself still a great game. That seems like a hard to argue with choice to me. That being said, Metal Gear Solid was a weak choice and Street Fighter 2 (as well as almost every other game mentioned) would be a better choice.

I think the Easy Allies should commit to having each game inducted into the hall of the greats receive a full play through. Maybe from the person that nominated it. Damiani playing MGS, and either Blood or Ben playing their selection, would be like a lap of honour for the victorious games.

Ben's selection wins for me because of how much it still HOLDS UP more than almost any game you can turn it on and enjoy it even just playing for a short time. Blood's is a commitment and definitely not for everyone, even to the point that the company that makes it has a hard time getting new ones into production.
