Vote for the EZA Hall of Greats Tie Breaker!
Added 2017-02-23 05:20:33 +0000 UTCHi Allies--
Well, it happened. There was a tie in our first ever EZA Hall of Greats Induction and now it's up to you to determine which game will be the second ever to receive this great honor. Both to not spoil the results for those who missed the induction, and to assure that you've heard the arguments before voting, you'll be voting between "Bloodworth's Selection" and "Ben's Selection." (I realize this poll itself is pretty much a major spoiler, so I tried to give you 24 hours to catch the stream before posting) If you did miss the Hall of Greats stream, despite many technical obstacles it turned out to be super fun. Link here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=75w5xT9AOnA
Though there won't be much suspense given we cannot hide the results, we will officially reveal which game will become One of the Greats on next week's Group Stream Night.
(Thanks for letting us do this silly stuff)
Love & Respect,
Kyle

It's hard to choose.... but in the end I had to give my vote to Super Metroid. Sorry Ben.

2017-02-28 01:02:35 +0000 UTCI dig Ben's argument. Not a fan of all the games it inspired, but I agree it did. Bloodworth, or anyone arguing for the game, I feel it's all too easy to point out all the things that one of the later entries (hint: ZM) does so much better.

2017-02-27 20:28:47 +0000 UTCSuper Metroid FTW! This is a game I have no nostalgia for since I never had a SNES and I've played it on a 3DS a few months ago... it absolutely holds up! The atmosphere, the music, the gameplay, the fluidity of graphics. It's just one of those games (Ocarina of Time is another one) that I never got to play at the time, but playing it 20 years later, one still has to appreciate their greatness. Plus they're entertaining as fuck ;-)
2017-02-26 19:05:16 +0000 UTCSuper Metroid is still a very popular speedrunning game. What's your point?
Logan Tawse
2017-02-26 01:12:31 +0000 UTCSuper street fighter turbo is still played competitvly to this day, enough said
2017-02-26 00:44:31 +0000 UTCSuper cool stream guys, i really enjoyed it. Gotta go with Super Metroid.
Brad Russell [Toukz]
2017-02-25 08:38:45 +0000 UTCSadly when I tried to play Super Metroid as a kid I got stuck early on and ended up returning my rental before I was able to really get into it. Street Fighter on the other hand was the game for me as a kid, spent countless hours just beating up these guys, buying huge guide books mostly just to look at all the different concept art for all the characters. Also, street fighter never stopped at from that point, from 2 then to alpha (zero) then to 3-4-5 these games and characters have always been around this whole time which is really cool. Metroid is a cool series just never one I was able to really get into.
2017-02-24 23:01:39 +0000 UTCfeel like Ben's selection is compromised by being kinda spread across the original and the upgrade (re-release?). There was a little positivity in polish and additional characters, but also a little negativity in balance tweaks and "cash-grab" nature of it. Plus his argument feels a little confused (between the two versions). i'd argue the original release was "no filler" but by the final upgrade, some of the characters were silly throw away. anywho. on the other hand, i never even played Bloodworth's, while I played the shit out of Ben's. and Ben's was clearly one of the important releases in video game history (that arguably changed the whole marketing focus of the industry away from families and towards young males, until the Wii came out)

2017-02-24 19:46:14 +0000 UTCBen's pick defined a genre and Bloods pick also defined a 'style' of game, not as broad as Ben's. so picked Bens but both have a spot, maybe next year :)
2017-02-24 16:56:10 +0000 UTChopes theres no rigged VOTES when it comes to FANBOYisms. :P
Otoshigami
2017-02-24 08:11:47 +0000 UTCreally? they put in the effort to not spoil the whole thing and you just do it in the comments?
2017-02-24 02:27:01 +0000 UTCBoth these games are among the greats. I voted ben, but seeing as it's now a long shot, I will submit that bloods might be more deserving of the additional prestige of being inducted upon it's first time nominated.
2017-02-24 02:26:19 +0000 UTCSuper Metroid is my childhood.
2017-02-24 02:16:22 +0000 UTCEasy pick for me. SF2 took four games (until Super Turbo) before it became the best fighting game around. Super Metroid was perfect on the first go.
2017-02-24 02:08:51 +0000 UTCSince no one nominated Chrono Trigger, and MGS was already vicotorious, the next game on my list would have probably been Metroid anyway, so easy pick for me.

2017-02-24 01:54:29 +0000 UTCStreet Fighter II is a more influential game, but Super Metroid is a better game... this is a hard one. Can we remove Metal Gear and but them both in?
2017-02-24 01:16:10 +0000 UTCWhat a tough choice. Both are seminal games in their respective genres. Both were released in '94. Both are sequels that greatly improved upon the originals. Super Metroid is literally the first Metroidvania game. SF2 defined an era and was a cultural sensation. I really don't know which to vote for!
2017-02-24 00:33:25 +0000 UTCBesides fighters are not as big as in the past. Multi million dollar sellers are exclusive to Mk and Smash
2017-02-23 22:17:25 +0000 UTCAlso very cool that the community gets a say (Easy Allies best in the biz)
Nerdazoid (Seán)
2017-02-23 21:44:41 +0000 UTCBen has no chance. I'm all the way SF2. It's forever going to be known for laying the foundation for an entire genre but...I think we all know among the allies that Metroid is going to win. But since this is the EZA Hall of the Greats maybe that's totally ok.

2017-02-23 19:56:09 +0000 UTCBen, Street Fighter 2 on SNES with my friends on friday nights, that nostalgia, remembering just how fun it was gets my vote.
Jason Walstrom
2017-02-23 18:56:38 +0000 UTCStreet Fighter 2
Joey and Cait
2017-02-23 18:22:11 +0000 UTCSuper Metroid for sure. Better luck next time, Ben. And seriously, no one proposed Chrono Trigger or FF6 ???
Whiskeyjack
2017-02-23 18:07:25 +0000 UTCGotta go Metroid. Sorry, Ben.
DualOrange
2017-02-23 16:46:59 +0000 UTCGotta get Super Metroid out of the way. Street Fighter II may have defined a genre, but Super Metroid redefined video games.
Green Graciano
2017-02-23 16:01:22 +0000 UTCThis choice sucks my heart says metroid but my brain says Street fighter. I don't like Street fighter but its impact can still be hear.
Nerdazoid (Seán)
2017-02-23 15:59:48 +0000 UTCSF2 is the foundation of all modern fighting games. Super Metroid was fantastic, but many things it did well had been done before by othe games. I would prefer a Castlevania game to be inducted before a Metroid game. Although both of these games are unquestionably some of the "Greats."
2017-02-23 15:52:27 +0000 UTCBoth will get in eventually, no question: but Blood's is an early lock for sure.
iconmaster
2017-02-23 15:38:18 +0000 UTCBen's pick elevated the fighting genre to a standard that is still used today. It was a game changer. It did to fighting games what the Beatles did to music. That is why, it is one of the greats.
2017-02-23 14:58:29 +0000 UTCI like Street Fighter 2, and there's no doubt that it has influenced many games to come after it, but I enjoyed Super Metroid 10x more. They both improved upon their predecessors in remarkable ways, but Super Metroid just kept me more engaged with the story and atmosphere.
2017-02-23 14:33:52 +0000 UTCDon't forget to vote with your eyes closed and see the results in the next stream! I'm going media blackout on this one.
2017-02-23 14:12:00 +0000 UTCGreat picks all around and fun stream! In the interest of a spoiler(ish)-free poll, maybe the games can be assigned codenames next time.
2017-02-23 14:00:30 +0000 UTCHonestly you can't lose with these two choices, but Ben's pick is the clear winner for me.
lq
2017-02-23 13:42:22 +0000 UTCstill shocked that neither Super Mario Bros, or Legend of Zelda were even mentioned in the first induction to the hall of fame. I'm guessing that everyone sort of assumed everyone else was going to go that route and decided to go with more personal games.
Sean Dupree
2017-02-23 13:40:22 +0000 UTCAs someone who played it for the first time recently I can say the game is not a nostalgia play.
Revalow
2017-02-23 12:54:56 +0000 UTCYou gotta go with genre defining Street Fighter II.
Felipe Fonseca
2017-02-23 12:54:54 +0000 UTCSuper Metroid is truly "One of the Greats!"
2017-02-23 12:19:08 +0000 UTCLove the new "hall of greats" can't wait for the next one!
2017-02-23 11:44:04 +0000 UTCEasy vote for super metroid.
2017-02-23 11:36:57 +0000 UTCBen's pick is still played today it's that great. Blood's pick just gets talked about for nostalgia.
2017-02-23 11:35:51 +0000 UTCI feel Blood's pick is better than the game that actually won
2017-02-23 11:19:29 +0000 UTCBlood's game is definitely one of the greats but Ben's has influenced so much it deserves to be second in hall of greats.
2017-02-23 11:18:00 +0000 UTCI agree! My favorite SNES game for sure.
RedVIII
2017-02-23 11:11:28 +0000 UTCYou're right they should list them as "B's pick" and "B's pick" ;)
James McCoy
2017-02-23 10:56:17 +0000 UTCI played Blood's option 10 years later and it still holds. The level design is unmatched and the Music/ presentation is not replicated even by the team that developed it.
2017-02-23 10:54:00 +0000 UTCI agree that using the last version makes it boring. Make it bold or use the third one.
2017-02-23 10:52:53 +0000 UTCI played many hours by myself as a kid. As an adult I find that boring.
2017-02-23 10:52:20 +0000 UTCStreet Fighter 2 is something I could live with on a deserted island (that somehow has a monitor and electricity and a console).
Travis Ing
2017-02-23 09:17:23 +0000 UTCBen's pick had such a great influence on video games but at the same time, if we are to pick the "best" version, why not take the latest? All these editions are just confusing. On the other hand Blood's selection is one of the best adventure game ever made and deserves to be one of the Greats.
Olivier
2017-02-23 09:02:11 +0000 UTCWithout Super Metroid there wouldn't have been Metroid Prime which definitely has a place in my Hall of Greats. Also I love Metroidvania games while fighting games almost always fail to attract my attention for extended periods of time (exceptions being Smash and Mortal Kombat). Therefore my vote has to go to Bloodworth's pick.
2017-02-23 08:55:55 +0000 UTCSuch a tough call but ultimately I think Super Metroid takes the edge. That being said, I wouldn't be surprised if Street Fighter II took it next time. It also deserves a spot.
Chris Leroux
2017-02-23 07:19:09 +0000 UTCThis is a REALLY hard choice. Fighting games are a big part of my life, and Street Fighter 2 is without doubt the father of them all. Unfortunately, I don't think any iteration of Street Fighter 2 is actually particularly good anymore. Important? Absolutely. A top five Street Fighter game? I just don't see it. Super Metroid, on the other hand, influenced so many great games and is itself still a great game. That seems like a hard to argue with choice to me. That being said, Metal Gear Solid was a weak choice and Street Fighter 2 (as well as almost every other game mentioned) would be a better choice.
James Kennedy
2017-02-23 07:17:29 +0000 UTCI think the Easy Allies should commit to having each game inducted into the hall of the greats receive a full play through. Maybe from the person that nominated it. Damiani playing MGS, and either Blood or Ben playing their selection, would be like a lap of honour for the victorious games.
John Price
2017-02-23 07:17:14 +0000 UTCUh, Metroid created a genre far more than SF did.
Daniel Askew
2017-02-23 06:57:57 +0000 UTCBleh. The title could've been "hall of greats spoiler post" it literally popped up halfway through me watching this as a banner on my phone.
Tony
2017-02-23 06:53:35 +0000 UTCSaying that it's Bloods and Bens pick is a spoiler
Ibrahim Sozer
2017-02-23 06:49:01 +0000 UTCBen's impassioned speech got my vote.
2017-02-23 06:41:26 +0000 UTCI love both games, but SF2 can get in hall at a later time
2017-02-23 06:32:40 +0000 UTCI Love metroid. And it did Influence alot. But street fighter more or less created a genre. Or at least set the standards for fighting games that är still the way we measure them. Have to go with SF.
Mazrim Taim
2017-02-23 06:18:19 +0000 UTCI understand Super Metroid is a perfect game and one of the greats, but Super Turbo has a special place in my heart, I can't say no.
Eric C.
2017-02-23 06:11:45 +0000 UTCCame here from Blood's Tweet to vote for Ben's Selection. You should probably tweet too Ben.
MBUN
2017-02-23 06:07:04 +0000 UTCEasily Blood's choice.
Andrew Chalmers
2017-02-23 06:04:52 +0000 UTCBlood's choice is absolutely one of the greats. I still go back to it and continue having a blast with it.
Kyran Morrison
2017-02-23 05:58:26 +0000 UTCBen's selection is one of the greats for sure, but Blood's is my #3 game of all time. Gotta go with it.
2017-02-23 05:45:26 +0000 UTCBen's Selection was one of my first video games so I have to give it to that
2017-02-23 05:41:12 +0000 UTCSorry Ben, as much as I Respect your game, I Love the other.
2017-02-23 05:39:57 +0000 UTCWas another great stream guys! I have to go with Metroid because it had such a big impact they call games of the type METROIDvania . Now we just need the other half (Castlevania) in the greats!
Chris H
2017-02-23 05:39:05 +0000 UTCJust so it was an official vote, I wanted to let you all know I closed my eyes when I clicked the check mark.
2017-02-23 05:38:55 +0000 UTCso close
John Wingate
2017-02-23 05:35:52 +0000 UTCBoth great additions, however I feel Super Metroid is the best of its genre where SF2 is a great start to its genre.
2017-02-23 05:35:26 +0000 UTCThis is gonna go down to the wire man!
2017-02-23 05:29:00 +0000 UTCBen's selection wins for me because of how much it still HOLDS UP more than almost any game you can turn it on and enjoy it even just playing for a short time. Blood's is a commitment and definitely not for everyone, even to the point that the company that makes it has a hard time getting new ones into production.
Ian Alexander
2017-02-23 05:26:57 +0000 UTCMy brain and heart are pulling me in different directions!
Daniel Murray
2017-02-23 05:25:42 +0000 UTCSeeing as how Bloodworth's pick is from my #2 franchise, easy choice.
Logan Tawse
2017-02-23 05:25:30 +0000 UTCBen's game. Easily.
Joetown
2017-02-23 05:25:18 +0000 UTCWhat an insanely difficult choice. Both are two of the most influential and fantastic games ever created. I'm totally happy if either one wins.
2017-02-23 05:25:10 +0000 UTCSuper metroid, just barely
Henry Ramirez
2017-02-23 05:24:41 +0000 UTCOh man the stress! Made my pick but the power is too much!
2017-02-23 05:24:00 +0000 UTCBens selection is one of the greats
