Brandon Sun, Kyle Moon Finale!

Hi Allies!

It's time for Brandon Sun, Kyle Moon to come its conclusion at last. I didn't realize this while we recorded, but this honker is 1 hour and 30 minutes long. And that's with no epic final battle at the end. I feel in this series I did make up for the absolute thrashing I faced in the finale of Brandon Plays Pokémon, but when Jones is too disheartened to even face me, it just doesn't even feel good at that point.

We do get a lot of interesting observations from Jones not just on Sun and Moon but how far (and not so far) Pokémon has come in 20 years, and I get to share some of my favorite memories from this game in there too. Ultimately it's been a weird series. Absolutely we dropped the ball on making this a regular weekly or even bi-weekly event, but even then it seems like there was less enthusiasm and excitement behind this than Brandon Plays Pokémon. My guess is that some of the most fun parts of that concept are left behind. In the end I wouldn't call Brandon Sun Kyle Moon a huge success, but not a failure either. I think there's something here. We just gotta keep mining.

Thanks for checking the series as we've come along, and as always, dump all the feedback you got on us.

Love & Respect,

Kyle

Finally beat the game myself. Primarina is OP against the elite 4 so I'm surprised that is where Jones struggled. I think my biggest takeaway is that Jones I think put too much pressure in reviewing and capturing the game. I would have been fine with it taking longer to film this last episode. But he might have felt it was hanging over his head. The only thing I would have liked from the end stuff would be Brandon's thoughts on fighting red and blue. If he gets around to it that could be a funny mini episode. Also, Nanu by far is the best kahuna. A weird, grumpy man who rejected the offer to be a part of the elite 4 but still celebrates your win behind a tree lol. If you ever do a funding special I think it would be fun to create a bracket of all the allies that play and battle each other to see who is the champion. I would pay to see that.

Nice series. I think the secret sauce of the first series was the newness from a completely old idea. For example, think how Huber would host a show with someone playing RE1 for the first time.

Sad to see this wonderful series coming to an end! It has been a hell of a ride! Thank you for doing this! Maybe in the future when/if we get a new Pokémon game it can come back?

Sebastian Hall

I would love to see you guys battle one last time, but all in all I really loved this series and I think you guys did a great job!

Greaat! Thank you!

I wonder if some of Jones' criticisms of the game not "having teeth" have some connection to him being over leveled. Sure I know he's referring specifically to the story, but he often mentions how he feels. And I think being over leveled can really impact how you feel going into battles. For example, the elite four and the professor were extremely hard for me. And it made it quite scary, especially going into the last battle with few items and injured Pokemon. Yet Jones just beat the professor like he was nothing. There are many examples throughout this adventure which convey a "scary" tone just because you feel you might lose (e.g totems, captain battles, etc.). For reference, my highest level was 56-ish (the legendary Pokemon) and my lowest was level 41. My average level was about 50. Anyway, I just finished the game tonight. I've practically played the game alongside this video series. It was fun trying to keep the pace with you guys. And I've said it before, but this is definitely my favourite show produced by EZA. Thanks again for sharing your experiences, and I look forward to hearing about your future adventures in the Pokemon games.

I never commented on any of the videos of either BSKM or BPP, but i just want you guys go know i loved both series. While i do have nostalgia for Red/Blue, i never really cared what game you guys pick. The show had a good run but i totally agree that there's no need to force it. You guys already make so many shows there's always something else to enjoy on the channel. Anyways loved every episode, and if you guys ever decide to bring it back choose Mass Effect ;].

Pablo Landaverde

Sad that it's over but it was a good run. I still want Brandon to experience Gold and Silver even if it's not on a show. Just want to know his reactions to certain things in those games.

I wish I could watch the whole video but I haven't even beaten the Elite 4 yet! Trying to figure out how I'm going to win with such an unbalanced team has slowed me down and I gotta have Ninetails AND Glaceon with me! I gotta! I really enjoyed this series and I hope you keep up the Pokemon coverage in any way you can. It's written in the Stars, I'm sure of it.

I wrote off Pokemon as a "kids game" since it came out in the 90's. Brandon Loves Pokemon inspired me to give it a go so I downloaded Pokemon Red so I could play along. Being a fan of the old JRPGs of the 90s I was immediately hooked. I have since moved on to Soul Silver, Alpha Sapphire and just finished Moon 2 nights ago. I'll probably check out X/Y once I'm done with Moon.

THIS I'd love to see. They could set up different battle conditions at random, like Kyle can only use ______ types, or Brandon cannot use _____, etc. I'd watch an hour or more of that per month easily!

While I agree this wasn't as good as Brandon Plays Pokemon, it's done something I didn't expect anything could: it made me want to play my first Pokemon. I can't explain why either. I guess it's just finally caught my eye thanks to you two. For that I'd like to say thank you Brandon Sun and Kyle Moon! Love & Respect, Erik 🙂

Kyle: it's ahr-kuh-PEL-a-goh. So, maybe it's meant to sound like po-kuh-PEL-a-goh. It's just emphasis. Read it like "poka pellago."

iconmaster

God I'll miss this show, you guys should do battles on twitch!!

Brad Russell [Toukz]

Oh yeah, streams would be AMAZING if/when switch makes it possible. I do think, if it had been possible, Brandon would have enjoyed G/S/C because the amount of progress between gens was actually really cool.

Correction: Just kidding. Who cares? I seriously love that yall even tried to do this series with how busy it's been. Yeah it didn't come out perfect or match the "lightning in a bottle" that Brandon Plays Pokemon was, but it was still a really fun trip despite getting inevitably rushed. Oh and Brandon buddy, I'm WITH you. I was super disappointed in these games for many reasons I've gone into on the forums, so don't feel bad about being down on them or thinking they didn't live up to what you wanted. Your points are valid, and even as a longterm fan of the series I will support whatever score you end up on in that review. What I'd love to see in the future personally if the opportunity presents itself would be Brandon PLAYING Pokemon. That is to say, if the Gen 2 games Gold/Silver/Crystal were rereleased on the Switch Virtual Console like Red/Blue/Yellow were on the 3DS or if the next Pokemon game released and Brandon plus Kyle and possibly even Ben weren't too busy with other things, I'd love to just see the two or three of you sit on the same couch you do all the group streams from and do a normal or extended stream of Brandon going blind into a Pokemon game he is unfamiliar with. This stream would be about direct interaction, insights, and judgement of how Brandon is playing from both the famous backseat Bosman and of course the Twitch audience. Yes Brandon, that means we probably wouldn't let you simply grind it out, both because timewise that wouldn't work out and you've played enough Pokemon games now that whether or not you want to play strategically, it'd be good for you to at least be in an environment where you can directly learn these things from Kyle and the audience. You wouldn't have to worry about taking notes or trying to remember what Pokemon names match to what species. Everything would be encoutered and discussed in real time, and we would all be helping Brandon progress through a Pokemon game together, teaching him every step of the way. I feel like you've done the couch discussion. You've done Brandon's exposure and exploration into Pokemon old and new. The school report type presentation of coming back after a week and presenting your finds has run it's course. It was a grand fresh concept, but we're done with that chapter. Next is community. Next is us all coming together to share our knowledge and love of Pokemon together in real time, maybe even trade and battle one another. It wouldn't have to be an enormous timesink or a big formal "show". It could be a stream like any of the other streams Easy Allies does, a series of streams, or a big extended stream, but for now we could just start with a stream and see if Brandon and Kyle enjoy this kind of community interaction. Obviously everyone is very busy right now, and there's no good way to stream the other Pokemon games that are already out since XY and ORAS have problems with 2D/3D capture and are tied to a bulky capture unit. Maybe something could be done with a Game Boy Player? I don't know. Doesn't matter, because there's no rush right now. So let's just wait and see how the next Pokemon game on the Switch looks. Switch should be much easier to stream hopefully, and maybe the time when these games come out won't be so hectic for the Easy Allies. Love & Respect & Sorry for all the corrections Kyle. I know you were doing your best.

This has been such a great week for Easy Allies. Sunday - A great Easy Update, starting with one my personal favorites of Ian's songs and a great playing of the always entertaining "Kill Your Babies" Monday - Kyle continuing his stream of Pokemon TCG (my favorite Fun/Dumb Game Monday) and learning that it's going to be a much longer game then originally thought Tuesday - A fantastic Toy Box Tuesday featuring Kyle and two of my favorite video game heroes, Spyro and Crash. Plus a great and unusual group stream with dioramas and tons of gifts Wednesday - The funniest Tabletop Escapades in a long while Thursday - The end of Brandon Sun Kyle Moon and a LONG stream by Kyle of the game I was disappointing didn't win the Tuesday group stream poll Friday - This week's Easy Allies Podcast (which I saw on Wednesday, but I'll say it for today) which was hilarious, interesting and let Blood talk about a past no one expected. And also(I don't want to spoil the specifics), an amazing announcement at the end of the Podcast of a returning show, I've been waiting on You guys have been getting better and better all the time and I can't wait to see where you go from here, thank you for all that you guys do! Love and Respect, Josh Vogt

Anyone else find it a tad disheartening that Brandon just blew through the Champion battle like it was nothing due to being overleveled? Sun/Moon is my favorite Pokemon game in a long time due to its increased difficulty (with XPshare off). The final battle could have also taught him a thing or two, if he hadn't breezed through it, because the Champion uses some quite advanced tactics.

Just finished watching. Really going to miss these Pokémon episodes. Always so interesting to get a fresh perspective on an old franchise. Maybe something like this could be done with another franchise *cough* Yakuza *cough* and other allies? P.S.: If its not too much work, could you put the QR codes of your battles online? If you publish them in the festival plaza castle, we can make mockup battles againt your teams. I really want to test my team against yours (aka. Probably being destroyed :) ).

Before I even watch this video, I gotta comment about the foreword in the email -- first of all (and most importantly) BSKM has been a blast! I get how you could feel like it might pale in comparison to the blinding, unbridled enthusiasm of Brandon's first-ever foray into Pokemon, but both have been quality experiences with their own individual merits. If anything, the flaws in BSKM had less to do with the show than the circumstances surrounding it - the insanity of the holiday release schedule of the industry coupled with (much deserved) vacation time had you guys playing in disparate, sporadic chunks as you could fit them in, which resulted you working through the game at different speeds and filming at irregular intervals. Not a big deal! BSKM is a fantastic supplementary show, and I'm more than happy to take what I can get, especially through the holiday rush and what might be the most jam-packed Jan-Feb ever. Keep up the great work - L&R ---- PS - it's no one's fault but Pokemon's when Brandon is quasi- let down by the fact that Pokemon has made like maybe a generation and a half worth of forward progress over ~20 years

I for one love this series. Both last and this season. Looking forward to watching this tonight.

Andrew Chalmers

Watching this tonight spurred me to finally fight the elite 4 (had been stalling trying to raise a pokemon) and I must say... right now I honestly hate the game. The amount of time you spend having zero control over your character is unforgiveable. From the moment you finish the last fight on, I have been sitting in essentially a chain of cutscenes for like 30+ minutes. This is game-ruining stuff for a handheld game, and for a series like Pokemon.

Bradley Spies

The biggest problem with this series compared to the first one is that I haven't had much time with the game yet and I don't want anything spoiled. I am holding off watching a few of the episodes until I can finish. With Brandon Plays Pokemon I was able to watch all of the episodes as they came out and wax nostalgic about a game I fondly remembered.

I haven't finished the game myself, so I didn't mind the delayed schedule. I will have this to go back to when I finally do. I still enjoyed it though! Thanks for putting in the time and effort. I do think the format works great but maybe different allies and series next time? Or just an old fashioned spoilercast for new games.
