Prey - Review

Hey Allies! I love games like this such as Deus Ex, Dishonored, System Shock and Thief. There are even some Alien: Isolation vibes in Prey. I'm also okay with a game being heavily influenced by other works. Hope you like the review!

Prey - Review

Comments

It kind of looks like Bioshock kind of had a baby with classic Deus Ex(Makes sense cause of Harvey Smith) and then the touch of Half-Life with the experiment gone wrong/head crab vibe. All 3 of these series are great though, so I can't entirely complain. I do wish the original Prey had its own sequel though. The use of portals, simple, but still interesting weapons, the spiritual aspect, and the representation of Native Americans in a game, as the protagonist, even if he wasn't what you'd call a devout Cherokee...It felt pretty neat.

According to Digital Foundry, the input lag in the demo was improved, but they still felt some minor lag of some sort. But that was mainly exclusive to the PS4 version. Both PC and X1 didn't seem to have this particular issue. X1 did have major framerate drops and freezes at regular events/situations.

This feels more like a BioShock game than the original Prey. I don't like that. Where's the upside down walkways? Where's the out-of-body abilities? Where's the Native American protagonist? Not cool at all.

Not in the works. The group stream was probably the most we'll do with it. -Bloodworth

Thanks for the review, Huber, Jones and the rest of the crew! The aiming problems, was that due to input lag? When I played the demo on PS4 it was really noticeable. I'm not someone that really notice input lag in games, but this time it was so severe that even I did notice it, and it made for some difficult aiming as you describe in the review... :\ Have any of you tested the pc version for input lag? L&R!

Great job, Huber! This is a well-written review, informed me a lot of the game. Also the use of that music was pretty excellent in the review. The soundtrack seems really good and interesting.

Will there be a Mario kart 8 review? Or no?

Thanks, Huber! Top class review - looking forward to seeing for myself once I knock a couple off my backlogue.

I'd play Dishonored 2 first - definitely in my top 5 from last year. Truly outstanding level design. I haven't fallen in love with Mankind Divided yet, even as a big Deus Ex fan, but I need to sit down and put the time in. And Prey I haven't picked up yet, so I can't comment!

Samuel Cardwell

Same. Seems like a solid game, just not a game for me.

As far as I remember Prey could be a reboot of an old same named game came out the same time of Doom and F.E.A.R

Kravenar Games

So between Prey, Dishonored 2, and Mankind Divided, which should be on the top of my list?

I can see that this is a well crafted game but after playing the demo I can kind of tell that this just isn't my cup of tea. Glad that the game seems to hold up for the people who were looking forward to it, though. Good review Huber!
