EZA @ FanimeCon 2017 - Our First Panel!

After over a year of trying to get a panel submission approved at various conventions, we finally got one happening at this year's FanimeCon in San Jose, CA. The anime convention runs from Friday, May 26th until Monday, May 29th and is held at the San Jose Convention Center. Tickets are still available, though if you're not local getting a hotel will be a bit of a problem (but not impossible -- you just might have to settle for not being near the convention and will have to drive).

The EZA panel, called "Final Fantasy VII Remake: Hopes and Fears" will be held Saturday, May 27th, from 11am PT - 1pm PT. If things haven't changed since the last time I attended, all panels are held in the Fairmount Hotel, which is just a short walk away from the convention center. Please check the official FanimeCon website for our panel listing when they release the final schedule for the room # and location, though.

Brad, Ben, Kyle, and I will be heading up Friday to wander around the convention a bit, and then we will all be at the panel the next day. There will be a Q&A session during the panel, but afterwards we will try to maybe meetup with people probably in the park area across from the convention center to chat for a bit. To attend the panel, you will need a valid Fanime badge! However, if we end up doing a meetup after, you will not need a badge.

Originally we thought you could pick up a single day badge in advance of Saturday, but this is untrue under any circumstances. So, if you are planning to get a Saturday only badge, you will need to show up EARLY to get in line in order to have the best chance of getting your badge in time in order to attend the panel. In the last few years I was at Fanime before moving away, I heard horror stories about how long the general badge line took to get through.

Since our panel is at 11am, we'd hate for you to miss it because you were trying to pick up your badge. If you don't object to paying more, you can pre-pay for a full weekend badge, which you can then pickup as early as Thursday before the convention begins. Please check the Fanime website for badge pickup location info and times and general registration information.

Additionally, if you are local, or are staying a hotel not within walking distance, I highly recommend taking public transportation, a taxi, or using your preferred app based car transportation service rather than trying to park at the convention. Convention parking will likely be completely filled up by Friday, and people leave their cars there the entire weekend. Most nearby hotels won't even offer paid/valet parking unless you are a confirmed hotel guest -- that's how packed it gets.

For those of you who will be unable to attend, we will try to film/record the panel to put up afterwards, even if it just ends up being the audio in the worst case scenario.

If there's anything I left out, please ask in the comments below.

L&R,

- Damiani

Is the Meet and Greet happening? Couldn't find anything posted online...

Probably won't make the con but for sure would try and make the meet and greet, keep us posted.

Sounds fun. Wish I could attend, but I don't live near San Jose. Hope you guys have a wonderful panel.

Congratulations! That's awesome, and it's in my hometown! Wish I still lived there so I could see you guys, but I know you are going to do awesome. I hope there will be video footage of the panel.

Not sure if I can make the panel but will definitely try to make it to the meetup!!!

Huzzah! Congrats guys.

Gan Khef

Love your beautiful faces but definitely don't mind if it's just an audio recording! Hope you guys get a panel approved for AX or PAX West. Will be at both :) If you guys get a panel approved would the topics of the panels be different from this fanime one?

Dang it, I have to go to a gathering at 12, but I will be there for the first hour and maybe the last half an hour.

Damiani I need to view this panel so hopefully you can get this recorded. Maybe piggyback off someone else's equipment that is also filming or outsourcing it even it costs?

Okay yea! That first week of January would be a bit hard for us as many are still taking vacation for the holidays around then.

They had new management back in 2013, so I'm guessing this was when they changed it.

Does anyone know when did they begin instituting this "same day" policy for single day badges? I've always gone as press and could pick up on Thursday, and most friends I knew always got full badges so they could pick up early, too. I'm assuming they're doing this to A) cut back on lines on earlier days to only allow people who have badges for that day to be in line and B) some sort of badge counterfeit system perhaps to prevent fake badges if they're doing unique colors/designs each day. - Damiani

Easy Allies

Sure. SacAnime has the winter con the first week in January. I've never been, cause I'm usually visiting family, but I'm sure you'd all have a great time!

Is that true of buying it ahead of time? By that, I mean can you pre-pay in full for a Day Only badge and still pick it up in advance? Edit: From the FAQ: Members who paid for their memberships online can pick up their badge starting on Thursday, May 25, 2017. They WILL NOT be mailed to you beforehand. You can pick up your badge at the FanimeCon Prepaid line in the San Jose Convention Center or at Clockwork Alchemy. - Damiani

We are trying to get panels approved for or are considering submitting panels or Anime Expo 2017 and PAX West 2017. Maybe there's still an opportunity if you go out for either of those. - Damiani

Easy Allies

I think the conflict for that is always going to be PAX West is during that same weekend. Not saying it's impossible - like if only one or two of us go to PAX Prime, then maybe some of us could go to SacAnime. Also isn't SacAnime twice a year? I forget if that's the one or another. - Damiani

Easy Allies

From the Fanime site "if you want to attend the convention only on Saturday, then you may purchase a Saturday only membership and pick up your badge on that same day. You may not purchase Saturday only membership on Friday." So it looks like you can't get a Saturday only pass on Friday :( Just a heads up to people following the suggestion above!

Of course the one year I don't go to Fanime for a family trip, this happens. Also regarding parking. For those of you going for the first time, always go to the 4th Street parking Garage. It's a bit of a walk, but it's a straight shot to the convention center from the structure.

Looking forward to the panel and meetup!

I would love it if you guys would look into SacAnime (September 1-3)! They usually host a lot of video game people and I know they're gonna have a few Zelda voice actors this year.
