Friend Code Episode 2 - Nintendo Direct April 2017

Sorry for the delay, but here's this week's episode of Friend Code. Bosman, Bloodworth, and Damiani dig into the SNES Classic rumor, March NPD data, and the recent April 2017 Nintendo Direct announcements.

Audio version: https://soundcloud.com/user-698785183/friend-code-ep2-v2/s-bVN5v

NOTE: If you don't catch it in the video, the reason for the on-camera only video cut is due to us not recording this episode until yesterday afternoon. We did a shoot on the normal recording day, but due to me not being familiar with the new audio setup, we didn't record any audio and just video. Normally I set aside my Saturday afternoons to edit Friend Code/Zelda Talk (roughly 6 hours), but that simply wasn't possible this time due to getting the files downloaded to my PC only this morning and having to learn how to work with the new audio files. Rather than delay the episode, I decided to just go simple so it's just us on camera and the new title sequence Ian made for us. Barring any radical shakeups in how we shoot our shows and the format of the files, this shouldn't ever be the case. Future episodes will include B-Roll footage to accompany our discussions, so I apologize for not being able to work that in this time.

Nintendo podcast is the perfect outlet for Nintendo direct discussion. It doesn't matter if it is "late"; at least to me.

César Villa

Late impressions are better than no impressions. It seems that EZA podcast covers the big Nintendo details but indies and other smaller announcements are understandably overlooked and would fit well here. I'd save the retro discussions for a really slow news week as they can happen anytime.

Zugdar

Great episode guys. I don't mind the talk being late, just as long as it not rethreading something that was covered on another podcast already. As for the Dear Nintendo segment, I never felt like its purpose was to shame the reviewers, I just found it funny for the same reasons you guys did. :)

BeatenDownBrian

Yes to even late Nintendo Directs coverage on Friend Code! Like how the level of discussion can be more in-depth and include the smaller titles/tidbits, something I don't think the EZA podcast has time to cover.

Definitely cover Nintendo Directs on Friend Code even if the EZA Podcast does too. The only way I see it being unnecessary would be if the same exact people were in the EZA Podcast that discusses it, which would probably be easy to avoid if you and Kyle coordinate guests for that week.

I think the Nintendo classic update it's gonna be more of the same product but with 16 bit graphics. I am guessing that there be access to the virtual console, backwards compatibility or some other killer feature and they wanted to prevent people from gettingpissed at buying the NES version only to find out that they lost out on the most important features.

Patrick Dixon

I was embracing the "..." Nah, I'm a goof and forgot. Stuff for me to keep improving on.

Easy Allies

Yep, I just knew we were going to run long and we had a scheduled stream to get to, so didn't bring it up in the interest of time.

Easy Allies

Great Episode, I think the main reason the NES Classic has been pulled is; they are going to sell us these games again on Switch once more via Virtual Console and don't want to cannibalise their audience. Why sell a bundle of emulated games for a reduced price when they can make more coin selling them individually.

Michael Seaward

I got lucky with the new Zelda amiibo's, managed to pre order the three of them on Amazon. I feel for my American Allies, retailer exclusive amiibo's sounds like a nightmare.

When Damiani initially returned to EZA I didn't gravitate towards him or his insights too much. Fast forward to now, Damiani kool-aid is one of my favorite beverages... I understand why he's loved. I've reached EZA enlightenment. It's so beautiful here.

Love Minmin and the Friendcode logo.

I don't buy for a second that Nintendo 'miscalculated'. That's just making up an excuse. If that statement were true they would have increased production and committed to deliver enough units. And this was what Reggie said they would do but a few months later they just kill the whole thing. I'm not sure what Nintendo thinks they will gain by this. Do they seriously expect that 1 NES Classic unit equates to 6 Virtual Console sales?

didnt think I wanted this podcast, but i do and i like it.

sam

"Zelda had more tweets and Twitch streams"! Good lord, please get out of your bubble. The average PS4/One owner neither tweets about what they're playing nor is he or she on Twitch. GTAV is still in the sales top 10 every month without the hardcore crowd talking about it. Average people see an open-world team-shooter with a well-known name like Ghost Recon and they just buy it.

Damiani don't forget to say your own name during the introductions!

¿ Did you know that different games were shown in the Japanese Nintendo Direct ? Please _do_ cover Nintendo Directs, even if at a later date.

I like the opinions, even if they're late! I love EZA vids because I enjoy the crew, not because of timely 'hot takes'. L&R

Alex

Good one. Fixed my complaints with the first one, and I honestly don't mind not having the video cut to footage of what you're talking about. Maybe just personal preference, but it's kind of nicer being able to watch you guys speak to each other than rewatching stock footage we've already seen of what's being discussed. If it's not a complicated edit, maybe you could experiment with shooting the podcast in way in which there's more space beneath the group than above them, so that you could stick smaller bits of video below you how I think GT Live did it for awhile putting the video where the desk is. That was a very nice way of handling that if not too complex.

MBUN

This was so much fun :) Thanks for sharing! It's wonderful to have Damiani in front of the camera, and moderating a podcast :D I didn't think the "Dear Nintendo" segment was malicious, I saw it as a picture of a moment in time, and looking back at our hype growing up. I hope you keep it in! :) L&R

you can charge both joycons with the Joy‑Con Charging Grip, batteries are just worhless...

Always do direct coverage no matter how late it is. They don't happen to happen and it needs to be covered in a Nintendo focused podcast.

Greg Kettering

I'm okay with the timing of this. Though it will be hard to say what it would be like for Directs which have "big" news (e.g Metroid Prime 4 announcement or w/e). But for the recent direct, it's okay being this late.

Andrew Chalmers

Not sure if it's my browser or not but the video doesn't play. EDIT- False alarm, Chrome Canary seems to be rather touchy lately with flash, got it sorted.

ZyloWolfBane

Talk about the Direct by all means, even if it's a bit late. If it's not the same panel as on the podcast the additional opinions are always welcome.

Andreas Köther

Bloodworth's Smooth Moves. Great opening logo! To stop the problem of stock issues, simple put nothing but sports games on the SNES classic.

Gerred Evatt

I think covering news, even late, is cool as long as it lets you explore it a bit more. EZA podcast is good for headlines and quick reactions, Friend Code would be great to have more time to explore it with more depth.
