Frame Trap - Episode 14 "Microsoft Brings the Heat"

Comments

I wouldn't mind if they talk more about anime. Frame Trap is not just for video games! Unleash your inner weeaboo!

Hey allies. Where could I find some of your gamer tags? I'd love to follow you on XBL

Another great episode kinda wish these were bi-weekly but then again the last thing I want you guys to do is force these episodes they feel so natural which is why I love it

Such a class move shouting out Dear Bosman. Great episode! I do miss the hard cut during the final HoTake chop though.

Getting to that VR topic too. Glad Kyle is positive on VR but admits it's flaws. I'm excited but the VR games out now aren't exactly system sellers. It's looking rough. Hoping it's just a soft launch and we really get into it next year.

Dang the conversation about this "generation" is pretty spot on. I am more defensive of this gen than most because I have practically every console and have a PC. But yeah, this gen hasn't had it's "defining moment" or "defining game". No hands down gamechangers. Arguable yes, but no consensus gamechangers or innovators. Even Nintendo went safe, Splatoon and Mario Maker being the only "innovative" titles, but came too late to a fledgling console(I love my Wii U, just being honest about where it is now). Even on PC, indie games run rampant but none more polished or widely praised than Shovel Knight, a 1 year Wii U exclusive game. Great games for sures, but most of the "best" are totally sequels. MGS5, Witcher 3, Uncharted 4, Bloodborne(while technically new ip, definitely in the realm of DemonSouls). Overwatch is close to gamechanging, but that verdict isn't really in yet. I love it but man who knows how long it will last.

Going to have to send that correction to Playground Games. Forza Horizon 3 definitely has barns.

Good on Ben for the "Dear Bosman" plug. Kyle is killing it.

I LOVE that ugly faces in WRPGs was brought up. It drives my wife and I nuts trying to make characters that look decent in games like mass effect, dragon age, and fallout. I end up randomizing a close approximation of how I look and tweak from there until satisfied. But I rarely am. Then again with JRPGs it's difficult to find a game that let's you have a beard that doesn't look silly since male characters tend to look like J-pop stars, or shaved heads. So I guess each side has its quirks lol.

The big negative about open-world games for me is not the quality (or lack of quality) of them and it's not really that I got bored of them. It's more that I am a completionist and I don't really want to spend hundreds of hours each month on all these game as I don't really like just skipping all optional objectives.

CORRECTION: In Australia we don't have "Barns". We have Sheds.

Two things about Color Splash: 1) You can change the controls so you don't have to use touch which greatly speeds up the battles. 2) After I pressed 'up' the bucket quit bothering me and I was free to explore. Just wanted to share so you guys can avoid these annoyances and just enjoy. [Sorry that I missed Mr. Chalmers comment right above mine.]

Regarding Paper Mario, are you using advanced controls? It slightly streamlines things. You should let Kyle know about this too if he chooses to play it.

Great to hear the impressions of Ben of Gears 4, just finished it and loved it. One thing though : you don't seem to realize the gears of war series has comedy in it, it's not all "bad dialogues" unintentionnally, gears is purposefuly cheesy and on your point about the robots, they're idiotic robots because they're the soldiers of an idiotic chief too. They made me laugh, it's obvious the "ennemy detected" is a joke on the idea of a simple robot soldier.

You should all check these cinematic hyper-stylized playthoughs of dishonored missions. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vKyT19o-Nl8

Audio is heavily weighted to the right making it uncomfortable to listen to with headphones. Similar issue on the latest Easy Update.

I think KOTOR had good faces but it's almost in the JRPG tradition rather than the western tradition. The major difference being all characters are artistically modeled or drawn in JRPGs where as they are generated in WRPGs. Dragons Dogma is a Japanese made Action RPG with western style faces. Gameplay differences include Classes vs Customisation. Story driven vs Role driven, Parties vs Controlling a single character, first person vs third person. As time has gone on the lines have blurred somewhat.

So nice to hear love for Binary Domain. Such an underrated game.

Love the early post. Work will go by a bit faster.

I'm so happy this is early. Nothing like frame trap to get me through my morning at work

Nothing like a Hottake on a chilly morning.
