Huber Syndrome - Episode 22: Reboots

With Resident Evil 7 looming on the horizon, Huber talks about what it means to reboot a franchise.

Huber Syndrome - Episode 22: Reboots

Fully agree with Assassins Creed, but they took a year off to finish this next one. Hopefully that means it's going to be different in many ways.

Huber, you kept saying that Assassin's Creed really needs to change it up and do something new, but what exactly do you suggest? Be specific, give me some examples of things they should do. I wanna hear your ideas. "More interesting missions" isn't good enough.

Love the message about franchises having to reinvent themselves! Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't - but it is necessary! As huber said, imagine a world of only assassins creeds, far cryes and towers

I didnt like the DMC reboot. It just felt too different and I didnt like those differences.

Reboots usually go back to the classic and/or basics. So it would make sense to discard some things from the sequels and starting from scratch.

I commented on YT, but I REALLLY want you to read this Huber: Gonna have to disagree with you on the DMC reboot..and no, my gripes against the game have nothing to do with with the change in aesthetic/tone, but with the removal of the best game mechanics in DMC4: Style Switching and Inertia Manipulation. With those gone, here's what was missing in the reboot: No Royal Guard canceling, no Star Raving, no Flying Guard, NO DARK SLAYER YAMATO in your combos. Hell, that's not even the end of it: the reboot's version of Devil Trigger no longer gives Dante extra attacks & movement abilities, meaning another layer of strategy and combo customization is just....non-existent. I could actually go on and on, but I think you get the point. IMO, the reboot is a dumbed down version of a franchise I love. The reboot doesn't have a bad combat system,, but it's a snooze for people who really sunk their teeth into DMC3/4.

You left out one of the most drastic reboots I've ever seen...God of War!

Mario reboots every gen, Mario 64 was the best ever reboot they could had just done a 2d Mario but no take that jump forward.

Good episode Huber! Great points!

Doom, Tomb Raider and Wolfenstein are examples of a reboot done well, because they honor their legacy and build on it for a new, stronger experience. On the other hand: Thief, Medal of Honor and Battlefront stray so far from their origins that any nostalgia evaporates, leaving shallow games that fail to live up to their predecessors. (I would give all of my werehogs for an HD remake of Thief 2: The Metal Age.) Thank you for the Hype, good night and good game!

Great episode Mr. Huber! Speaking of Reboots, what are your thoughts on Tomb Raider? Outside of DOOM, its the only reboot I've played. Keep up the great work and stay Easy fellow Ally.
