Frame Trap - Episode 11 "Talkin' About Gamescom"

Comments

I loved the No Man's Sky discussion :-) I'm currently exactly where Ben is with this game.

Hey Kyle, would you mind posting your PC specs? I'm interested in building my own rig again and would like to see what's the best of the best

GW Fawkes

Is Huber's dad a how I met your mother fan?

Huber, I really hope you don't feel like you have to walk around every planet in NMS. I've actually read accounts from people who have "completionist syndrome" no pun intended who say that NMS helped them get out of that mindset that they have to do everything in an area before moving on, and that it's had an extremely positive impact on their lives. And don't feel like the words are a huge discovery in the game, the real discovery is finding a planet you love and exploring THAT one or harvesting valuable resources on other planets. And Ian, please don't live or die on what the center of the galaxy is like. Experience it, then read up on it, and I think you'll get it, being the artsy open-minded person that you are

confusedhulk

Aloha Allies, if each of you were a character in a fighting game, what martial arts discipline would you be? What would be your onscreen name?

Travis Ing

Nope. Ben was spot on. Tomb Raider (2013) out-Uncharted Uncharted. And Uncharted out-Tom-Braidered Tomb Raider.

Only Kyle could go and buy a super expensive gaming PC that can run any game in ultra settings and devine frame rates - just to end up using it to ... emulate TETRIS xD. Loving it.

Great discussions all around, guys. I'm loving Frame Trap!! Also, music gets to me emotionally too - all avenues of it. On top of all the wonderful artists out there composing their personal music, the folks composing for film and video games are coming up with some wonderful stuff as well. Keep doing what you're doing. Your talks are always a highlight to my mornings. Love and Respect.

Man of Steel 7/10 Batman V. Superman 7/10 Suicide Squad 7/10

Sorry Ben, you did tell me when I said the 50 minutes was spoiler-y that it made you want to watch it. It really hyped me even with the world and characters. I agree that the gameplay/combat could be pure button mashing and I will probably still love it.

Is Ian a witch doctor? Finn got hurt.

BobbyTrizzle

Regarding the ‘clone game question’, I would say Overwatch. Shameless, but great clone game, as are other recent Blizzard games like Heartstone and Heroes of the Storm.

Volatile response: Stop being a person that attaches themselves to others problems. Your comment is literally about how YOU feel towards a second hand recount of a Reddit post. Both sentences focused on you. Parts like "hurt my heart" and "I've been bummed" show where the focus is. Caring about something in order to make yourself feel like a better person doesn't make you one.

There's a timeline of the topics in the description

Joseph Caruso

i was on my Way to go to gamescom in Germany but my car broke down. i never made it :(

hey guys, would it be possible to have a running "now discussing ...." banner at the bottom of these podcasts, so we can fast forward in case a specific topic is not that interesting and we'd like to move on to the next one?

I also had media blackout on NMS, but Ben nails it. Once you see it - you kinda off get put off by the game. When I spent 6 hours on one planet exploring, I finally decided to warp to another to get the anti-matter blueprint. When I got it - it was "explore and mine some more!~".... and I just said - "No". In regards to Ian's remark about destroying the game by maxing out on one planet... I disagree. If it is part of the game - then it is part of the game. Unless each planet was smaller, and each planet had a limited number of drop pods, then yes - fine. But they don't. Dieing in games sucks. Especially in RPGs that don't autosave. Having to grind that hour or two you just lost sucks. But like Bosman says, it is still good. It makes it so you want to become all powerful to were you won't die.

Pet Rent is So Dumb

Regarding Ian with /r/legaladvice - that sub is heavily moderated so that's why you don't see as many negative comments as opposed to other subreddits.

While I agree, there are few games in my experience where death reveals an aspect of the game that of itself deepens the experience or enjoyment of the game; I have to mention the brutal deaths in the Tomb Raider reboot, such as being impaled on huge branches had a certain dark joy to them.

Elliot Moscow

Well Ian, something bad happened To Finn Balor :(

Alejandro Medina

I don't agree with Ian's comparison of the need to not support Metal Gear Survive with not supporting DC movies. It seems to me that he's saying people shouldn't support DC movies because he doesn't like them. While I hated Suicide Squad, I actually liked the other two, but that's beside the point. Those movies obviously have fans, so thinking that everyone should stop supporting them doesn't seem right to me. If people want to spend their money watching Transformers movies, they should go ahead and do that. If the next Call of Duty or Madden sells a billion copies, more power to them. I don't generally see the need to say that people should stop supporting something you don't like, as long as other people like them. Metal Gear Survive is different though. Konami has treated their employees like crap and have pretty much disregarded their loyal fans. It is for that reason I would encourage people to stop supporting Konami.

It hurts my heart that Ian has to feel that way when talking about the breakup story. I've been bummed to hear how common volatile responses are on the internet.

Hey Ben and Allies, great episode this week. I said some pretty rough things last week, bringing up that NMS E3 reaction video etc. You showed a lot of guts and honour addressing it this week Ben, and I wanted to apologise if I made you question yourself and your actions on camera. It takes a lot to put yourself out there to the mercy of the internet day after day and I shouldn't have judged so harshly. You're all doing a great job, and you'll always have my love and respect.

Cash

Thumbs up Huber, Banner Saga is a great game. Also Blood did a Banner Saga interview with Austin Wintory , back at GT check it out its pretty good. PS, did you get the feels after the final battle, also did you pick up that the female Valka warned you that the god of trade where you get the arrow taught man that a coin has two sides and every thing has a price.

Ben, I remember the NMS E3 video and everyone was behind you arguing against Brandon.

Ibrahim Sozer

Courtney Barnett hype! Yes, Ben, yes. Love her.

Dear Brandon jones, just saw the no mans sky video e3 2015 (where were you?) You have my respekk. Don't care about no mans sky here. Never have, never will. I don't know what that game is. Shout out to you sir. Give you some respekk.

I'll be the person who makes the expected comment about the domestic violence section I guess. I had the unexpected experience of getting to be the main editor for a book on the subject last winter and I found the situation was a great deal more complicated than I had ever suspected. That experience convinced me that the current Duluth model under which the bulk of the system runs on is an insane, horribly ideologically tainted piece of rotten legislation that does nothing to solve the problem and in fact just makes it much, much worse. I don't ever comment on people's personal lives that I am not involved in, because I think it is often gossipy and tacky so I have no opinion on the particular incident he mentioned, but I have to say the various conceits people operate under when judging domestic violence are so wildly out of whack with reality they might as well be on a different planet.

Ben didn't answer why he hated the RE7 trailer from what he said in Talking Syndrome.

That PC topic was on point guys. I understand where Huber was coming from, he is objectively seeing a shift away from PC. Glad Ben was more defensive because it isn't dire, just noticable. You can totally get by without a PC now, i haven't found the need in years. While consoles get slightly worse PC games, PC games don't get Mario, Zelda, Uncharted, Smash Bros and many more exlcusive series over the years. Only emulation sort of allows those games but even then, it never feels at home. Great convo, had all sides covered there. Wish Brad was there for it. Love and Respect.

I have more hope for Evil Within 2 than RE7. RE7 for me is trying to piggyback on all the other horror games that have come out in the past year. They are only making it VR because that is/was the new gimmick. The VR and them making it for that is going to hurt RE7. It actually may end up being the reason why the game is going to be bad. There is no reason to have it in First person, they are only doing it because of VR. Huber is getting himself way to hyped for RE7. I would bet TGS they will show a lot of the game, and it is going to flop hard. There is no way Star Citizens would ever be able to run on a console. I would bet that once we see DX12 games, there is going to be a massive graphical difference from PC to console.

Hey, guys. I've noticed a lot of talk lately about receiving criticism. I know you're very conscientious about viewer feedback because you want to make videos that everyone will like. But there are also some things that you don't need to apologize for. Ben, I disagreed with you in "that video" way back in 2015 but I hadn't given a thought to it since. Some people adopt an almost retributive "I-told-you-so" attitude even when everyone has finally come to an agreement. You guys are on camera so much that you can't be sorry for what you say and do 24/7, let alone what happened a year ago. Whether angry, annoying, or mean, it doesn't matter. You're video game journalists, but first and foremost you're human beings. Apologize if that makes you feel better. Just know that we already know how considerate you are to all of us. Don't let a few rotten apples get you down.

I love Divekick! I'll see if we can get it on the vote for the group stream. I think that would be the best avenue for it.

Easy Allies

hey Ben! have you considered playing Divekick with the Allies? it's an excellent fighting game if you can put aside (or embrace) its flash-like art style. spacing, meter management, scramble situations, patience, movement options, mindgames, and much more are present in the game, all the while keeping player actions limited to two buttons. I've used this game before to teach people I know the fundamentals of competitive fighting games and it worked out pretty good. I urge you guys to give it a chance!

Kyle rocking the sick cow-lick this episode.
