Tales From Japan - Episode 2 "Open Your Heart"

In this episode, I take a much different approach than I did in the first episode. I'm unscripted in the video to make it more conversational. Let me know if you think the change worked!
I absolutely love sharing my adventure in Japan and I feel confident that the third episode will be out much, much sooner.

I came home to watch this video after having a crappy day today, I'm in serious pain, my expensive gaming keyboard broke just before xmas, I'm just angry in general. And several times today I've had people nearly cause accidents by cutting me off from lanes they weren't legally even supposed to be in to begin with. The first thought I had as I came home was "This is why I don't trust people, this is why I don't have friends, THIS is why I don't ever want to be polite and nice to people as they clearly never are to me". And then I watched this video, thank you Ben. Not everyone is evil, but perhaps our "Culture" is more to blame than simply saying "People just suck". Having experiences like yours would make it hard not to tear up, people just don't act that way here, least not in my experience in 31 years as a california resident.

I'd definitely be interested in seeing the scale of your game collection at some point in the future, by the way. I had to scroll back in the video to hear what you were saying because I was too busy trying to make out the games on your shelves.

I have always found Japan to be fascinating from a cultural perspective, but I've always had a slight fear because of not understanding certain cultural differences, or worse, having ignorance for them. The stories you've shared here have really hit home just how much of a great place Japan is and I feel you really hit the nail on the head about what we can all learn from the experience. Thanks again.

2016-12-20 18:56:54 +0000 UTCAwesome episode Ben. I had sort of a similar experience as the DQ Bar story but kind of in reverse. I wasn't lost but some guy came up to me and decided he was going to show me the way to my station. I was kind of overwhelmed and just let him lead the way. When we get there he says he's really hungry and asks if he could have some change for food. I think what happened was that he was either a homeless person or a drunk or something but he didn't want to take my money unearned so he wanted to perform a service for it. Pretty strange but I don't think something similar would have happened in the west.
