Brandon Sun, Kyle Moon - Part 2

Hi Allies!

It's time for Part 2 of the collective journey of two Poke-fans into the world of the greatest new Pokemon game in years. Obviously I got way far ahead of Jones, so we end up having a pretty similar relationship to the one we had with Brandon Plays Pokemon, but there are still plenty of discoveries for the both of us here. We'll keep doing these as much as we can!

Love & Respect,

Kyle

Yes to all this! Good stuff Merlin! :D

This was wonderful!

It's going to be really interesting to see how Brandon develops as a Pokémon player through this game. There's a lot to learn and he's clearly super into absorbing all of it. LOVE IT.

Turned my EXP Share off in XY and again in this game. In XY it was balanced perfectly to work out. In this game, I ended up way underleveled right before the E4, and now I'm even more underleveled at the start of the postgame. I don't recommend it for Sun/Moon.

MBUN

Couldn't agree more. Also, it seems kind of crucial that Brandon learn which improvements Sun/Moon are responsible for, since he's reviewing the games.

Really enjoyable to watch. It's so funny how Brandon is amazed by Pokémon he's never seen before, even though they will make up a clear majority of Pokémon for him based on his limited experience with the franchise. A couple of notes: 1. Why not open and close the episodes with the Alolan greeting? "Alola!" *Makes the associated hand gesture* 2. Insert a random clip of real-life Sophie whenever Growlithe Sophie is mentioned. Like, at least once an episode for us Sophie-fans. Please? 3. Can we get a Pokédex comparison or a Festival Plaza stats comparison at some point? It'd be neat to compare the numbers. The stats in the Festival Plaza go into crazy detail like how many total Beans you've fed your Pokémon. (But I don't know how to see one's own stats...?) 4. Thank you so much for all the work/effort that went into this video, the B-roll is a fantastic addition! 5. Don't forget to check the Mystery Gift function!!! You can get a free Munchlax from Nintendo through the internet! Keep up the great work!

Correction to your correction! 1. "IVs" and "EVs" are separate things. IVs are a particular monster's inherent base stats (unique to the monster itself, rather than the species). An IV of 31 is the highest possible for each stat, and can't be changed (as far as I know; things may have changed). EVs are what Kyle described: certain points for a particular stat given for defeating a species of Pokemon. 2 and 3 are correct. :) But Rowlet is obviously the best.

Just wanted to say a couple of things: One - do you think it would be cool when Mr. Jones says a gameplay upgrade, Mr. Bosman could indicate which generation the addition came? For example, the EXP bar in the HUD started in Gen 2, Makuhita came in Gen 3, etc. Two - I'm not playing, nor have any plans to ever play Sun or Moon, but I still will enjoy this! This episode was really good with the B-roll, trading, and battling. Keep up the great work!

Just wanted to throw props to Jones for the time he took to capture and edit in footage from the game. I neither have the time or a 3ds to play pokemon right now so the cuts to examples of what they are discussing makes the show much more enjoyable for me.

When Lewis and Clark went on their grand expedition, they did not have the benefit of photography to document their adventures or the new species of animals that they encountered. Part of the allure surrounding their discoveries was the limited power of their descriptions to completely fill the the void of knowledge held by those who stayed behind... What I'm mean to say is, you probably don't need to record everything.

CORRECTION AND CLARIFICATION: 1. It's "IV", not "EV". It stands for "Individual Value" 2. It's not really worth caring about unless you're competitive. You're basically fighting for a potential 10% advantage in stats. 3. EXP Share doesn't take experience away from pokemon that battle. They still get 100%, your non-active members just get 50% on top of that Also, Team Popplio 4 lyfe~!

Kyle - "I told you that you were not gonna have fun." HAHAHAHHAHAHA

Both are exclusive to Moon. I believe Snout is evovled Rockruff. He evolves into something different in Sun (it's a quadruped, can't remember other differences).

Saugerdees

This was so good. Brandon seems to be only leveling up pokemon he knows. Hope he branches out before next episode!

Great episode! Love the format! I'm currently on the second island with all Gen-7 team. Sadly I only have time to play the game at night so thanks Jones for showing what daytime looks like in game. Kyle has a cool team, I want Snout and White Lie (don't know their official names yet) so badly. Can't wait to see Jones's new team after the battle.

Brandon really needs to learn the type advantages/disadvantages in order to beat Kyle. He also needs to learn about which moves will be good for his pokemon to have (considering their atk/spc atk stats etc.) Don't think he realizes that some moves are physical, some are special and you can tell the difference via the orange or blue graphic in the summary. Having unevolved forms vs Kyle's evolved ones, and using beginner moves like Ember he was always going to lose. But in the future, extra knowledge will benefit him greatly. Great episode, either way! Loved it.

Please more and longer episodes. So amazing

Hi Guys, I have already commented on youtube but I will also comment here on what the game design logic is with the female pokemon being more rare then males. It is because breeding. When you breed 2 pokemon the egg that will mysteriously appear will have a pokemon of the same kind of the female parent. So when we breed a female Wimpod with a male Tirtouga we shal get a Wimpod in the egg. Now you can also pass certain moves from parent pokemon to the egg pokemon that they normally cant learn by leveling up. So for example tirtouga can learn the move Aqua jet, a water type move that always goes first. Neither Wimpod nor its evolution can learn aqua jet by just leveling up. But if we would breed a female Wimpod with a male Tirtouga who knows Aqua jet, the egg will contain a Wimpod with the move Aqua jet! So in short for breeding Female pokemon are more valuable and thus need to be more rare. L&R

Exactly same position as me.

I want to watch this, but I am guna get pokemon Stars so will just not for spoilers XD

"Poplio said Bwark" t-shirt. Also Kyle, don't hold back on the opinions. Trust me, everyone wants to hear you rant about the implications of the English speaking Pokedex, why Delibird is a terrible Pokemon, the dangers of Exp. All etc.. Nothing wrong with some good-natured criticism. Put your neuroses on full display! Excellent episode guys this is really shaping up to be a great series. It feels unique, not just a retread of Brandon Play Pokemon. I'm loving it already.

Gan Khef

I was going to support Kyle's statement about Jones not using the EXP share for balance reasons but after watching that bloodbath of a battle, use that extra assistance to evolve those mons Jones!

So pumped that you guys are doing this. BPP inspired me to nickname all my Pokémon this time around, which is something I'd never done before, so it's cool to sort of play alongside you guys and compare/contrast parties and opinions. On that topic, I think it could be cool if one of you two were to make an official Brandon Sun, Kyle Moon thread on the forum where we could all get involved and discuss the games up until the point at which the most recent episode left off. That way we can all discuss without fear of spoilers because there's a determined cut-off each week. Also, it could make a neat trading/battling hub.

How did you find time to post this in the middle of the game awards mayhem? I wasn't expecting this video until Sunday. Not complaining; can't wait to see how Jones handles himself in this new game. Love & Respect!

César Villa

I'll hold back from corrections, but since Jones asked the gender ratio being so slanted towards males on starters is to prevent you from breeding them until late game when you get a Ditto since the female species always determines what the egg is except when Ditto is involved. It is pretty messed up when the last two generations have had very feminine looking starter evolutions.

MBUN

Love the new format! And, Kyle, I'm so happy you decided to stick with Pikipek! It is one of the best new ones
