Frame Trap - Episode 17 "The Good Vibes of Pokemon"

On this lengthy episode of Frame Trap, we settle in with some Pokemon talk. The crew discusses Sun and Moon as well as what they want out of the future of the series. We also dig deep into other big recent releases such as Watch Dogs 2, Dishonored 2, and the Gwent closed beta. It's not just videogames this episode, however, since things like the new Metallica album and the Fantastic Beasts movie make their way into the conversation. Last but certainly not least, there's a brand new segment called "Caught in a Frame Trap" that keeps everyone on their toes.

I really hope you all enjoy the new segment. I had a lot of fun putting it together. Going forward, I think it's important to try new things in order to keep Frame Trap fresh. Please let me know what you think! I'm excited to see how you guys felt about the episode.

EDIT: Looks like there was a processing error with the SoundCloud upload. Working on it now. Should be fixed soon.

EDIT 2: Okay, the proper/fixed version is now on SoundCloud. Should appear on iTunes and Google Play shortly. Very sorry about this everyone.

Frame Trap - Episode 17 "The Good Vibes of Pokemon"

Comments

Ben and Blood: Since you mentioned you would be interested in an adaption of The Witcher you could always check out the polish TV-series they made for it. Looking quickly at it, it does seem like it could include "a guy in a weird rubber drowner suit" at some point though... ;) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GZlIMnIe9e0

Just wanted to say I love the frame trap segment - great idea.

Kevin Weaver

Great episode. I'd love a spoilercast type thing for fantastic beasts and arrival. Also, I like the forbidden word idea. Don't know how much work it would be but if you continue it, maybe add it to the beginning of the podcast like the old password game show to just the audience

I love the knowing look Ben gives the camera with the Monster Hunter reference in the Fantastic Beasts conversation.

By the way, love the long form of the show, always have, it's incredible how you can make a 3 hour video (almost) and keep the pace so high. I'm always surprised to see it ending, it always seems too soon...

Remasters for me are a way of letting go of old consoles. If you gave me for instance a remaster in my PS4 of Kingdoms of Amalur, Ni No Kuni, Mafia 2 and Dragon's Dogma Dark Arisen and I could finally unplug my PS3. Altough I haven't turned it on for the better part of the last 3 years...

I love popplio! Mine is named Melody and I get on Pokemon every day to at least feed and play with her for a little while.

Please continue discussing TV, Movies, Music or whatever tickles you guys fancy on any given Frame Trap. It helps us patrons get a better understanding of who you all are as people and it gives us variety. Maybe not all the time since I know people specifically listen for gaming related content but there's no harm in getting side tracked with something each of you feels is worth discussing.

Joey and Cait

I will never be against you guys trying new things on the shows, but I don't think Frame Trap needs game segments, especially not ones this long. Freeform discussion is what I come to Frame Trap for.

Anontastic

I am so happy you guys brought up Nausicaa of the valley of the wind. It is my favorite of all the Miyazaki's films . Everyone should see it for sure if they haven't already.

That Virtual Fighter "Domestic Violence" ad may be the biggest whiff in advertising since Road Rage 2: Race"ism". Get it together Sega

lol I never thought I'd get a black metal recommendation from EZA but hey its pretty good!!! Thanks for being open minded Ben!

I have to say that I really enjoyed this episode! The frame trap segment was great and I totally want to play Watch Dogs 2 now :D also, Arrival! Omg!!!! As for Bloodworth's comment on how the story in WD 2 is a heavy handed; I find it to be a strange comment considering the ongoing stories about wikileaks and Snowden. I feel like the story might be a lot closer to reality than not. Keep in mind I haven't experienced it so..

good stuff; BTW, i think Bloodworth is so underappreciated, you are my fav. ally Blood ! You awsome man !

Frame Trap coincides with payday for me, so every other Monday is always so jolly. Another great episode guys!

Ben, I always get a little boost to my mood when I realize it's been two weeks and it's time for another Frame Trap. Thank you for adding to my happiness with all of your hard work. EZA is well rounded because you're there. 🙂

I love that Ben put some music discussion in the mix.

I have mixed feelings on Pokemon. Like they said, there is a surprising amount of depth in building a well balanced team for competitive play. I love games that give players freedom to come up with crazy builds or team comps to use, and Pokemon has that aspect in spades. But at the same time, I feel like the combat system is really holding the series back. Turn-based, 1v1 combat feels like a disservice to what this series could be. I can understand if they want to keep that gameplay for the main games, so at least make a spinoff series with full 3d, real-time combat. That would certainly bring in new and old players.

Dustin McNab

Already said this in a tweet, but thank you so much for taking my question! Was not expecting it and it really made my night!

Brandon K Gann

Hey Ben. I know many write him off because of his comedy career, but I really really think you should check out Brendon Small (Dethklok/Galaktikon).. He is seriously one of the most talented musicians I've ever encountered. I defy you to listen to Dethalbum III and not be blown away. Anyone who likes metal or just well thought out composition, I'd implore you to check out Brendon Small's actual albums. His comedy is great, but his musical ability is next level. Trust me on this one.

Gan Khef

Ben, your thoughts on Cobalt and that wall of sound -feeling made me obligated to recommend Moonsorrow to you. You probably have heard of it. It's a Finnish black/folk metal band that just oozes with atmosphere and passion. You should check out their newest album, "Jumalten Aika", or my personal favourite, their two-track giant, "V - Hävitetty". Their style of music with long tracks and repetition can make it hard to get into the music, but it is seriously worth it for the multiple peaks, valleys and payoffs after another inside their music. Some of the best songwriting in the biz. I just had to pour out my love for this band, and I just hope one of you can experience the respect and and admiration I have for these guys.

Before I even clicked the podcast i was hoping it would be at least 3 hours. Although it didn't make that time I am no disappointed. I like to listen to Frame Trap while I'm at work.

Joey and Cait

Talking Syndrome I believe.

Morgan Mohalla

Great episode, once again! but hearing huber's story about Del Toro, gave me this weird dejavu..... has Huber already said in another show or stream that "Del Toro just goes, 'Fucking Konami' " ???.... i could swear i heard that part of the story already. someone help lol
