DOOM - Easy Allies Review

Comments

Welcome back, Doom!

Great review! I learned what I need to know without anything getting spoiled. Nice job.

Parasitepaladin

only 4 stars? okay that's good too

This is a very fair review, and I agree with it almost entirely. My only caveat is that it's worth noting that while Snapmap is low on content for the moment, they have said we will be getting more free content updates for that mode soecifically as time goes on. It's actually my favorite part of the game.

WarK0V

I've never played a Doom game, but the more I hear about this one the more I want to give it a go.

Best reviews in the bizzz! EZA all the way! Thanks Huber!

Also, I like the way the game changes my play style. I probably would not use the chainsaw much but having to use it for much needed ammo makes me pull it out more often than I typically would. When you need life you perform the Glory Kills, which does slow down your killing spree, but if you want to have a longer killing spree, you need to get good enough to take less damage and then not have to use the Glory Kills. Great review though as always. I will end up putting way more time into Doom than Uncharted. Not a knock at Uncharted, just find it much more fun to play.

Great review. I'd mention the touch of humor that isn't overdone (Battleborn), and is actually entertaining (unlike Batleborn). I hoped you were going to show the fist bump but it cut away.

As always you guys provide the most well written and consistent reviews! Great job Huber!

Tristan Gray

Great writing Huber!

Everett Coe

It's a shame that the tacked-on multiplayer brings this game down slightly - the campaign is absolute, old-school awesomeness. Great review....as always.

Adam Mullany

I was worried that with the lukewarm reception of the multiplayer that this game wouldn't hold up. Happy to be wrong!

The game is fantastic. Didn't expect to be having this much fun with it

Wow, Excellent. Nice surprise after all =)

Best reviews in the biz.

I agree. DOOM wasn't Quake or Unreal Tournament. It wasn't really known for it's multiplayer. When people usually think of DOOM, they think of running around Hell slaying demons. Maybe, if id felt that they needed it, they could have pulled a MGS5 and released the multiplayer later on.

Great Review!

Ian Patterson esquire.

The game really is phenomenal. Multiplayer isn't that interesting, but I certainly didn't buy it for that. After going through the campaign I got engulfed by the SnapMap creator. Definitely surprised with how powerful and simple it is.

John Leitner

and here i was thinking good single player fps were dead.

collin

Buying this one for the singleplayer.

To be honest the idea that knowing the basic premise of a story is considered a spoiler seems rather oversensitive in my opinion. So much of the time, people call us out on things that are literally on the back of the box, already heavily previewed, in TV spots, etc. We take great care not to include spoilers, but we've always found it important to review story elements as well. Trying to talk about the quality of the plot without saying anything regarding its content is simply far too vague for meaningful criticism. There is a big difference between not being spoiled and going in completely blind. We absolutely take great care not to include spoilers, but that doesn't mean we can predict what other details you personally might not want to see or hear about. -Bloodworth

Easy Allies

4 reviews out of 7 now Huber, and 4 great reviews at that. Keep it up! :)

I'm a big fan of EZA... but one thing you've brought with you from GT is your ability to put spoilers in your reviews... I just don't understand it... You can talk about whether the story is decent, non-existent, etc. without telling us what the story actually is. Or how / why things are happening in the game. Now I get this is DOOM... and many people may not care about having things like story ruined for them... but EZA (GT) does this for every game of every genre. I clicked on this review to get EZA's opinion.... not a run down of how the game starts and why all hell is literally breaking lose... why not omit that info from the review and just speak about the quality of the story or premise... whether its interesting or run of the mill and whether that really matters or not in a title such as this.

I found the game to be very boring. I was expecting Wolfenstein, but ended up getting a FPS horde mode game. Maybe I'm missing the nostalgia factor. Ah well.

Pet Rent is So Dumb

I've seen more people have the same opinion but I think they're right. Did DOOM really gain anything by including the multiplayer? Wouldn't the score actually have increased if it was just a badass single player experience? I'm inclined to say yes. AND the game would've been released sooner.

Benny Samuelsson

My biggest problem was just this. Expecting Wolfenstein - but the game ended up being very boring.

Pet Rent is So Dumb

This game is metal as hell!

Garrett Walker

It was a great weekend rental. Might pick it up when there's a bit of a price drop, or GOTY edition.

It definitely does. There's a lot of replay value with the difficulty levels. I kinda feel like Huber focused on critiques to balance out the raving people are doing about the game.

So much yes to this man.

i need this game in my life now...

Ky.

Doom is some of the most fun I have had in gaming in weeks

Rory McGuire

The soundtrack sounds very Quake, and that's a very good thing!

Doom wasn't even on my radar because of Uncharted 4 but now that I finished that I'm ready to blast demons with a shotgun.

Jason Walstrom

When Wolfenstein came out I was really looking forward to this but it looks a bit boring to me now it's finally here

you guys are just better at this. I've seen a few reviews already, but you guys consistently put out better work. Well done.

Game audio is too loud.

Alexander Zyryanov

I originally had "Lacking" but team voted for something harsher. -Blood

Easy Allies

The difference between 'decent' and 'inferior' sounds huge to me. To me 'decent' sounds really good. Perhaps 'average', 'good' or 'fine' might be a better word for 3 stars. Opinions?

I love that though, it is very important to have the ability to take a step back from the hype and do a proper review/analysis. Good Job Allies!

OverNightGaming

Think I'll wait till its in a bargain bin... Looks good but perhaps a one and done scenario. Great review , doesn't quite look like it deserves the same score as Dark Souls 3.

Michael Huber is the most peculiar substance on the planet. Hyperbole ridden hype fueled machine on his own time, then suddenly a calm, cool and collected objective analytical journalist when his job demands it. Is Michael P Huber even real? I ask myself this more every night. I think I've been infected with the syndrome. Good review. And good night everyone.

Ha, did you guys take the story seriously? I think the entire point is that there's a story going on, and Doomguy just doesn't give a crap. Hence him smashing computers and intercoms and not listening to anything he's told. Doomguy hates the story and just wants to slaughter demons. Fun review, though! Nice and succinct, as expected.

Stephen Smith

The singleplayer is just awesome. It's everything Doom 3 wasn't. The review and its final score are spot on for me. Good work, Huber :)

Great review with some great footage!

Fair review! Huber's on fire - I really like his writing style and even handed analysis.

selfconfessedcynic

I didn't really like the multiplayer beta but I like what I'm hearing about the singleplayer! This game wasn't really on my radar but I guess now I have to pick it up :)
