Tabletop Escapades - Episode 5

Hail, patrons! Episode 5 of Tabletop Escapades is now on SoundCloud and YouTube. It should be available on iTunes soon, whenever Apple decides to refresh the feed. I personally think this episode is a step up from last week. Our heroes get into some tough situations and deal with them in baffling (I use that term endearingly) ways. I sincerely hope you enjoy the episode and please feel free to hit me up with any feedback.

Tabletop Escapades - Episode 5

I never played D&D but I have so much fun watching this. It's already one of my favorite shows! Keep on the good work Ben you're doing a great job!!!

@Ian; i think Huber realy wanted that piece of cake (?) you offered Kyle :p

Randy Verschueren

Definitely need some more Yogalla RP action. Also, stay alive Huber! Always a bummer when Law/Hogger can't be involved..

Hey, Ben. I hope you'll consider this feedback valuable, but I think it would help the guys to shoot no more than 3 episodes straight. I understand that there are time constraints when it comes to getting everyone together. However, the 5-episode strain is really showing through in this video (knowing that they have 3 more to do would stress anyone out). I can only speak for myself but I wouldn't mind if it meant getting fewer episodes. If you guys aren't having fun, then the viewers aren't having fun. And what would be the point of the show if not fun?

Lot of fun, would just be cool to hear and see a little more rp'ing in the characters as the actions unfold. Every once in a while Bossman enters character, every once in a while Ian does, etc.

Only spells that require attack rolls can crit, but it's an obscure ruling that confuses lots of people, so I don't blame Ben for not knowing. Plus, at the end of the day if he says spells can't crit, they can't crit.

Also: Is there anyway to make fucking line breaks on this page? Would be nice to not have a wall of text every time you write a longer message. -_-

Well, I did not expect to enjoy watching other people play D&D but here I am, enjoying watching other people play D&D. There is one thing I would be curious about if it could be possible to incorporate into the show format though. I'm thinking it would be easier for the guys to roleplay if they weren't getting as much information that their characters don't have. For example if someone fails a Stealth check Ben now often tells them exactly how the enemies react and what they are thinking even if the player characters doesn't even see these enemies. I feel it would be more interesting if the players were only (or at least mostly) privy to knowledge and details their characters have. HOWEVER! It is really fun for me as a viewer to hear Ben describe how the enemies and NPCs are reacting and thinking so an idea I had would be to embrace this show as a viewer experience and do som editing in post. So Ben wouldn't give away above mentioned details to the players but instead add that into the video while editing. Maybe in form of a text overlay or even pause the video and narrate. A less production heavy approach could be to just have a text editor on the computer you are already showing to us and have Ben type info to the viewers there. I just feel that this would let the guys get more into their roles and add some extra amusement for the viewers as we would know some things the players don't while watching them make decisions over what to do and argue over whether or not anyone heard Necater topple that jar of broken porcelain. Anyway, that's just an idea. Keep up the good work either way!

Hey, reckon people, whether that's Ben and co. or people here, might get a kick out of this article about streaming roleplaying games for audiences http://www.dragonmag.com/5.0/#!/article/107437/101582104

Absolutely nailed it.

Love this episode. And I do kind of understand mipe his concern. I totally understand that you need to shoot this in one sitting, because it is hard to get everyone and everything together. I would probably love these episodes even more if they were slightly longer, so that there are more things happening with every character hopefully. And I wouldn't mind these episodes to be once every two weeks. Unlike Frame Trap or the Easy Allies Podcast, which are mostly about news and other things that happened in the last weeks, Escapades can, pardon the pun, escape all that and be two times every month I think. Besides all that, everyone is doing a great job. I think everybody is going to get into their characters more with every episode and when everybody has got their attacks and rolling the dices completely down, Escapades is going to be even more enjoyable.

Huber definitely waiting when this episode is over.

Weary episode. This is exactly why recording several episodes at once, while it currently might be a practical necessity for you, is a pretty problematic solution: You have no time to calm down, let things rest for a while and really prepare for / actively look forward to the next session. Still enjoying the show, but the overall lack of energy and time to prepare and look some things up shows.

Camian

loved this episode, really seeing everyone get into character and having a good time. one quick nitpicky thing though-- i'm like 98% sure spells crit

That was great. A nice Ian episode.

i know you guys arent trying to follow every rule exactly but sneak attack is much better than it has ever been allowed to be on this show

Sneak Attack: You know how to strike subtly and exploit a foe’s distraction. Once per turn, you can deal an extra 1d6 damage to one creature you hit with an attack if you have advantage on the attack roll. The attack must use a finesse or a ranged weapon. You don’t need advantage on the attack roll if another enemy of the target is within 5 feet of it, that enemy isn’t incapacitated, and you don’t have disadvantage on the attack roll.

If he hadnt moved i believe he could have readied a charge action to achieve the result he wanted

I love this show it's so dang good! Gotta love troll Bossman and all the shenanigans all of them get into.

Marcos C.

I still enjoyed it, but I kind of have to say that this wasn't as good as the first ones. Maybe because Huber got like 20 words in the entire episode before the ending. Which I then loved again, as Law did his Law-y thing right away. Just get that foot fixed, man!

Ville Ranto

Minor issue for me: That wooden bridge should have also burned. And lighting a fire in a cave should have more consequences. But very entertaining episode, as always.

the_finnish_ally

oh Ben you didn't let Ian to talk and create monster((( so bad

Another great episode!~

Ian Alexander

Does moving count as an action though? I think it doesn't so you should be able to move into position and then ready an attack action.

Olf Himself

I don't have my PHB ready, but from what I recall, a Ready action requires you to not make any action that turn, until the Ready action is triggered. That includes all movement, and free actions as well. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm fairly sure that's the rule set for going on Hold.

Just as a general reaction, Ben: You don't need to keep saying in these posts (and the videos) that you're knocking the rust off, or still finding a groove, or improving over previous episodes. I've watched all 4 so far with the wife and we've loved it all. I agree that things are getting better, but you all can be happy and proud of the totality of your work so far. Keep it up!

Fluffhead108

I got it in iTunes, so it should be up. 😊
